MammeleParticipantMammeleParticipant
Sorry about my many typos today. Multi-tasking while tired is a very bad idea…
And I vote for the old Edit button to come on immediately.
MammeleParticipantI’m not getting any into this argument but want to point out that Rabbi M.B. Weissmandel was a gaon in Torah and a Tzaddik emes. The 10 questions are apparently his, not the OP’s, so be careful when you try to tear it down. (The OP also should have mentioned that this is a copy/paste.)
Rabbi Weissmandel worked tirelessly to save whatever Yidden he could – and accomplished a lot – but was greatly stymied by the Reform and Zionists who didn’t value every Jewish life as an עולם מלא. With few exceptions, such as his cousin Gisi Fleischmann הי״ד who was Reform (see Wiki article about her) it was the less affluent, less connected and fewer Orthodox worldwide that were dedicated to saving Yidden.
And mentioning that Rabbonim discouraged European Yidden to leave for America in the 1920s when the reasons for leaving were mainly economic is unfair.
MammeleParticipantWolf: if I’m correct about what this is, I think you should contact Rav Moshe Weinberger for clarification and chizzuk. I remember reading an article from him that slightly touched on this topic, but more more importantly he hast vast experience.
MammeleParticipantLB: that’s not what’s going on here. She’s rationalizing her behavior to fit with what her feelings are.
And I think we should all call it quits on those threads because she’s somehow validating her actions by rehashing it with us. Now where’s that lock for my keyboard 😉 ?
MammeleParticipantBecause wheat grown for Matzah (or rather vice-versa, wheat fields selected for Matzah) is monitored closely for moisture and perfect harvesting time, in addition to optimal storage and more precautions taken — especially Shmurah Matzah — mold that may be present in regular wheat/flour is not an issue. This may be an overlooked part in regular bread/Challah that people may have issues/intolerance from. It’s also good to know when comparing to chometz’dig Matzah.
But it’s not a once size fits all cure, just something to experiment with — and don’t forget about yeast, eggs sugar etc. that are not included in Matzah.
Good luck, and may we all be well and feel well.
MammeleParticipantI didn’t say you should be “casual” with him instead of date. If I wasn’t clear enough I’ll try to be clear now: TOTALLY STEER CLEAR OF HIM FOR 6 MONTHS. But don’t do it in a nasty way, let him know beforehand.
Then see where both of you are at, at that point.
MammeleParticipantRS: in case you missed my post, see above yours.
MammeleParticipantRS: I didn’t say you should “dump” him. I said wait 6 months then reevaluate.
Those 6 months will allow some time for both of you to reach closer to your respective potentials (it’s almost morning Motzei Pesach – I hope I’m forgiven for this most likely non-word) and then see if you’ve gotten closer or further to a meeting of the minds and neshomos.
If waiting 6 months equals pushing him away — for a guy that supposedly is willing to change his life for you (stay in learning etc.) — then I have a “news flash” for you: He’s not Mr. Right, you’ve simply come across as easy picking.
Good luck!
MammeleParticipantRS: sorry for the late response. Busy Yom Tom…
I was trying to be cute and tie in two things. Your emojis didn’t work because you didn’t space before starting them, and the system is programmed to consider a punctuation mark after a sentence with a parenthesis following it as part of the sentence, which it often is.
As to your shidduch issue, I’m suggesting you take a step back and not make a decision now, iow give yourself some space. All our advice is apparently falling on deaf ears, and you seem to be pushed in the opposite direction.
So instead of thinking it’s either him or not, tell him and yourself that you’re taking a break for say 1/2 a year, and afterwards you’ll reconsider your options. And do just that. Focus on your studies, your Yiddishkeit, strengthening your relationship with your parents and teachers/Rabbis etc.
A little time off dating won’t hurt you, and you can gain immense perspective.
Good luck and Gutt Yom Tov!
MammeleParticipantRS: emojis can’t be rushed, nor should shidduchim, so make sure to give yourself some space 😉
March 26, 2017 5:18 pm at 5:18 pm in reply to: American pop culture vs secular Israeli pop culture #1244257MammeleParticipantSince no else is speaking up, I guess I have to man up…
Avi K: our zemiros contains no crude language, no thanks for the comparison.
Seriously speaking, if people a lot holier than you or me deemed folk music fit for zemiros, that doesn’t make it okay for us to listen to vulgar lyrics, or “kasher” music that has non-Jewish vibes.
MammeleParticipantSorry LU, it was me that mentioned that, not WTP.
And sorry WTP, for not correcting her earlier post when the chain of errors began. I wasn’t 100% sure at that point exactly what’s going, on so I let it slide. Mistakes happen.
MammeleParticipantLU: I hear you, but when you’ll be 60 Iy”h (married with children) I hope you won’t consider yourself old… Everything is relative.
On a similar note however, there is a problem in our society – and I’m really generalizing – of men become “old” and less active at an earlier age than their female counterparts.
MammeleParticipantRebShidduch: when someone is young like you seem to be, it’s not just the age difference in years but in percentage older than you that matters. When you’re 20 for example, 50% older than you is too old IMHO even if it’s “only” 10 years.
However, if you’re not involving your parents, you definitely need a shidduch mentor.
Good luck!

MammeleParticipantI’m sure KJ Chusid loves us all. He just couldn’t handle the “outpouring of affection” that he encountered when he ‘fessed up to it 2 years ago…
MammeleParticipantI know very little about this topic, but if the prices are low I’d wonder if there’s less hard drive space.
March 14, 2017 12:52 am at 12:52 am in reply to: Daylight saving time actually doesn't make sense. #1226125MammeleParticipantLC: Sorry, I only read the article fully after posting (I vaguely remembered it from the past) so here’s some of the nitty gritty.
It’s only based off a small Michigan study. The rest of that same week heart attacks tapered off. And when we regain an hour, there are 21% less heart attacks that Tuesday. Basically, it’s the straw that breaks the camel’s back – for vulnerable people.
We Yidden believe that every moment of life matters, and it seems silly to intentionally increase stressful situations for such a huge percentage of the population, so in the grand scheme of things it’s bad government policy. Especially since emergency personnel may be understaffed/under equipped when heart attacks spike.
We’re also aware of the havoc it creates in our own lives, as children (and livestock for those it matters to) couldn’t care less what the clock says when it comes to sleep schedules.
March 13, 2017 4:56 pm at 4:56 pm in reply to: Daylight saving time actually doesn't make sense. #1226120MammeleParticipantBesides the comfort factor, the 25% increase in heart attacks the Monday after DST begins should make us see the light. Seriously.
MammeleParticipantSorry about that. This new system is truly Purim’dig…
In any case LB, google is your friend, and correct spelling matters.
MammeleParticipantLightbrite: not quite the “real” thing, but you should be able to get Der Yid via email, although I don’t know the email address to subscribe.
And if the mods will allow, there are some pages of a section of di Tzeitung (not the news portion) available online.

Make sure to click on the LEFT side to turn the pages when starting on the first page.
MammeleParticipantSorry but I think you’re better off seeing a doctor than asking me. Sometimes it’s only seasonal though.
Or caused by staring at a computer screen for too long. You can also try supplementing with fish oil capsules or eating more fatty fish.
The Mayo Clinic has a good online article listing aging and vitamin A deficiency among other causes.
There are OTC eye drops to alleviate it, but if it’s persistent you should really see an eye doctor to be safe.
If it’s related to diet or dry air they can sometimes go together.
BUT AGAIN I’M NOT A DOCTOR.
MammeleParticipantLU: yes there is, but obviously dry skin can have many causes. And it’s not the only symptom of iron deficiency, just one of many that sometimes goes unnoticed.
MammeleParticipantLU: Especially if you suffer from dry skin elsewhere as well, make sure you drink enough water and that your iron levels are okay.
February 28, 2017 12:56 am at 12:56 am in reply to: marrying a good boy who might not be good enough for you #1220705MammeleParticipantOkay, I’ll probably be sorry I took the bait…
If there’s one good think in posting these things online, it may very well be that you – Reb Shidduch – can simply scroll up and read what you wrote about him earlier. So while the Yetzer Hora tries to play mind games with you regarding this boy’s “compatibility” with you, having it all in writing makes it possible for you to outsmart the Yetzer Hora.
THE CHOICE OF WHO WINS IS YOURS ALONE!
MammeleParticipantAlthough I personally wear lipstick, I know people that don’t for tznius reasons.
AFAIK if it’s not meant to be eaten and derive benefit from ingesting it, it’s okay to apply kashrus-wise. (NOT talking about Pesach here.)
Lightbrite and many others might want to be machmir, but all things NOT being equal, it makes more sense to do so for tznius reasons vs. kashrus reasons. Even more so if one wears (or is tempted to wear) the bold colors trending nowadays.
MammeleParticipantUbiq: I believe certain families have always had this custom of not eating outside their own home, with limited exceptions of certain people they do trust. This is not exactly a new phenomenon, and I don’t think there’s been a real increase in the numbers that follow this chumra.
If you read biographies/life stories of many Rabbis or Chasidic Rebbis you’ll find plenty of examples.
MammeleParticipantSo I was wrong. Oh well. At least there are some smart CR denizens out here.
MammeleParticipantOnly paper boats, I guess.
But then origami is lolder than airplanes, so probably just about everything but airplanes. What’s the fun if it can’t fly though?
MammeleParticipantThanks Ubiq for bringing it to our attention.
MammeleParticipantFor what it’s worth, at least Ivanka denounced anti-Semitism. It would have had more import if it came from Trump himself.
And I don’t know what’s going on in Malmo, Sweden as if today, but a few years ago Jews were fleeing the city because of Muslim/immigrant anti-Semitism.
If anyone has more up to date info. regarding Malmo, please enlighten us, but it’s worth a mention regardless for all those that think taking in refugees is without consequences. Especially for us Yidden who want to be altruistic, we have to face facts that a large percentage of these refugees are anti-Semitic because their culture condones it.
MammeleParticipantJoseph: ask Turx if he felt he was being respected by Trump.
MammeleParticipantLitvos: thanks for the informative answer.
How about if I bake my fries (or rather chips) with some oil?
MammeleParticipantThanks. Nice.
MammeleParticipantMammeleParticipantLU: if I’m certain I won’t take the bite, I usually interrupt the non-Jewish telemarketers, not just for lack of patience, but because to them time is money. The sooner they move on to the next caller, the more commission they can potentially earn. So I’ll say something like “sorry, I can’t afford a donation right now” and hang up. I don’t really give them a second chance to talk as there’s no point to it, I’m not planning on changing my mind.
MammeleParticipantSome lottery. Either mega millions, or more likely the other one which is also a few states combined.
CTlawyer: wood cleaner such as Murphy can be for floors or for butcher block countertops, so sometimes a hechsher makes sense.
Sorry I know it’s an old thread, but I had to say this…
MammeleParticipantMashed avocado works in place of oil/mayo for guacamole. I’d still add lemon or preferably lime juice for flavor and color retention, as well as salt, so I wouldn’t exactly call it a dressing.
MammeleParticipantNothing about you LU or actual chess. It’s just an expression.
MammeleParticipantRight. So let’s make it “Perhaps a Talmid Chochom, Perhaps an Onav, Perhaps a Mod” and let the CR batlanim decide…
Just kidding, they’re all Talmudi Chachomim — I mean expert googlers — not ch”v batlanim.
MammeleParticipantOh now I remember. It was “Singular mind”. So maybe change it to “Veteran CR Talmud Chochom” cause that’s really what it should have been.
And sorry for being such a nag. Hope you’re not playing me (and all of us) though… I’m not good at chess.
MammeleParticipantMazel Tov DY on the removal of your subtitle! A pity I forgot what it was… (something about CR Talmud Chochom?)
In any case Retzono shel Adam zeh Kvodo.
MammeleParticipantThanks Mod 25. Interesting Jewish name though… No wonder they say the level of the Doros is dropping.
MammeleParticipantCan you maybe fill in the blank to make my Shulem Aleichem complete? (I had to repost cause twice is doubly nice…)
Shulem Aleichem Reb/Rebetzin ___YW Moderator-25__ !
MammeleParticipantShulem Aleichem then!
MammeleParticipantLf: there is stuff that can be put on the lawn to deter dogs, from chemicals to vinegar to motion activated sprinklers (I don’t think you can use it if your kids walk there). Not everything works, or can harm lawns, so do your Google research as best you can.
I think the best/simplest idea I saw mentioned (credit havahart) that might work for you is to put up a sign (with landlord’s permission) to the effect that the lawn has been treated (article mentioned against raccoons and skunks, in NYC it makes more sense to write against rats) so please keep dogs/cats off it. And then I’d go ahead and put some cayenne pepper or something harmless so it shouldn’t be a lie.
Good luck!
February 2, 2017 6:56 am at 6:56 am in reply to: Welcome YW Moderator-21 and YW Moderator-25 #1213954MammeleParticipant25 is the day Chanukah starts, so of course it’s a good number.
LU hope I get a lollipop now…
Perhaps more new moderators are in the works as well, but I honestly don’t know.
Sorry for not replying to your request sooner, I was kind of in a bind. I was actually looking for your posts that got me started, with no success. In any case I figured sometimes silence is golden. And ftr, you’re far from dumb. Again, I’m sorry and hope you forgive me.
LB: I wouldn’t call LU the queen of L”H, the Queen of shmiras haloshen is what I’m assuming you meant.
MammeleParticipantI’m conflicted about the ban, but I have one question. If we take America out of the equation and pretend to be Europe for a moment, how would the terror stats by refugees/immigrants by country of origin hold up?
Meaning let’s assume America is relatively safe now, if our borders become as porous as Europe’s were to the flood of refugees, how do we know we won’t suffer greatly ch”v then.
MammeleParticipantIf your current weight is between underweight-26 bmi, then my answer would be yes. Scrawny is not pretty or healthy. Of course these numbers are not cast in stone, so get a second opinion from someone you trust.
