I agree with crisis. He is just stating the obvious. Unfortunately that is how our society works – no reason for all the hate.

    Back to the original question:

    1. Positive attitude – it gets you really far!

    2. Don’t expect to go to sem and change immediately…it takes time and effort.

    3. Bag for shabbosim

    4. Camera with a few memory cards – you take a lot of pics! Or you can print your pics in Israel.

    5. Make sure to make th emost of every single second! It goes by really fast!

Yeah, not to be too harsh or anything but Shopping613 you kinda don’t know what your talking about. I’ve been to Israel many times and have never heard of anything like that. You should probably check with your rabbis…..

I understand that we need to have rules and restrictions before going out. It is just frusturating that society gets hung up on every little detail – did he open the door, did he not, did he take you to manhattan (?!?), did she say this, wear this, do this!!!!! We get so hung up on the details that we dont focus on whats really supposed to be happening – seeing if the other person is compatible for marriage!

Exactly! But why do we all have this pressure to abide by them!

LOVEPARTY: Nachlas does have a more yeshivish clientele. It’s not extrememly hard but it is definitely not easy. I dont think everyone there could be from a well known family thats not so possible.

NANNY: No one should be picking a seminary based on the dorms and location! I went to sem in Har Nof and loved it! People think Har Nof is out of it and any other place that’s not in geula or on shmuel HaNavi. Part of the fun of not being in the center of Yerushalayim was traveling to those places – we got to know the place much better!

Anyone going to sem this year – hatzlacha raba and dont get stressed out – Hashem knows exactly where u are supposed to go and the place you end up is the place you are supposed to be in so think positively! Good luck!

I find it really interesting that you are thinking about nachlas and meor. They are two totally different seminaries. While nachlas has more yeshivish, frum, solid girls Meor has the total opposite.

Never yell or scream at him when he does something that you feel is not on the path of being a great person. Let him breathe a little and pick up the value and love of mitzvos from you. Also, dont pressure your son. Dont make him feel that he needs to be the next gadol hadar. He should want it, not resent it because you’re forcing it on him. Oh and btw growing up to be a regular erliche Jew is also a wonderful thing.

I’m sure girls would go. Why would the fact that it’s in Manhattan turn them off?
