AJ’s method has worked for years. But he missed a STEP. Put on mask on in case you meet a neighbor on the street and want to converse with them (if you live in a state that requires this).

in reply to: Why I Hate Yom Ha'atma'ut #1852558

GH: In my neighborhood a relatively high percentage does not say hallel (with or without a brocha). I grew up in a Young Israel and while we did not say tachnun we also did not say hallel. All the yeshivos i attended said tachnun.

in reply to: Distance Learning for Many children – AND ONLY ONE DEVICE! #1852545

“But with 5 children you should have just received from the government in the amount of $4900. ”

1.You dont know if they received it yet. There are plenty of reports of those who did not receive it.
    2. Maybe they need that money to pay expenses from yom tov.
    3. Maybe they have outstanding loans that they have to pay back.

I heard a line last night……If one was writing a parody of a tone deaf political dunce he would fit the part.

“it was not applicable to all including myself on all of the above items, it was just somethings that I happen be thinking about that people got use to having and thought they cant manage without and they managed”

Do we know they actually managed? Have you actually interviewed anyone who goes away for pesach if they actually managed?

in reply to: Shaving/haircut this Friday #1852204

Doreish Haemes: Lamed nissan can never be on shabbos based on the dictum of LO ADU ROSH. For Lamed Nissan to be on shabbos, alef nissan would have to be on Friday which means Alef Tishrei would fall on a Sunday, which cannot happen on our calendar. See Orech Chayim Taf Chaf Ches Siifim Alef and Beis for the days Rosh Chodesh can fall out along with MB Sif Koton gimmel.

GH: What percentage is “most of us”? People who normally dont say hallel on that day are not planning to say it this year either.

in reply to: Isn’t this amazing #1852015

I am totally missing your point. “In parhas Tzav ” did you mean during the week of Parshas Tzav? and what average is 40? a Normal week? Is that only people in Yerushalayim or does that iclude levayos of people from Chutz Laaretz with the kevurah n EY?

in reply to: Shaving/haircut this Friday #1852000

nomesorah: I don t remember in which of his sefarim it is written but R’ Chaim Kanievsky states that the tzaava of R Yehuda Hachasid about haircuts on rosh chodesh only applies on the first day of the chodesh (e.g. alef Iyar), not on the 30th day of the previous chodesh. (e.g. 30 Nissan, this friday)

SRivka: you wrote “Additionally, Dr. Zelenko said you could call anyone in KJ and ask if anyone has died from coronavirus because he claims 100% success with it”. I listened and I think he actually said that all the people he treated with this protocol he had a success rate regarding the patients from having their conditions worsening and needing a ventilator.

in reply to: Inspiring safe & legal Porch minyanim all over Lakewood #1851650

GH: So when groups of men make minyanim at achasunah it is wothless since we do not designate the chasunah hall with kedushas beis haknesses? PrsonallyI will follow the rosh yeahiva swho davens with us.

in reply to: Inspiring safe & legal Porch minyanim all over Lakewood #1851553

My LOR told me he didn’t understand the reasoning behind two psak din he heard from the Lakewood Poskim. The first was not burning chometz even in the privacy of your backyard and told me to burn the 10 pieces as he was doing and the psak of the banning of minyanim even with proper social distancing. He himself has been davening with a backyard minyan with proper diastancing.

in reply to: Inspiring safe & legal Porch minyanim all over Lakewood #1851378

GH: I attended such a minyan on Yom Tov. I have no such agenda other then being able to hear kedusha, leining and duchening. If I can shop in Moisha’s and Shoprite with social distancing, i can also daven with social distancing.

in reply to: Lack of kovid hatorah. #1850894

I have not heard the words of this doctor but IMO he is equating Porch Minyanim with 10 people on one porch as opposed to the guidelines as detailed by the Lakewood poskim. There was actually a minyan like this in Flatbush during yom tov where families stayed on their porch or inside their house with the windows open and others across the street maintaining social distancing. I was not surprised the poskim reversed their previous psak when the NJ officials issued their guidelines on how to safely conduct these type of minyanim.

you opinion doest annoy me as Daniel Patrick Moynhan said everyone is entitled to an opinion; not their own facts. i saw zoom in action and can state outright how it has benefits over teleconferencing. If you havent seen a rebbe teach over zoom I am not sure how you can give an opinion.

in reply to: Contingency Plans for Extended School Closings #1848891

syag:n I saw zoom in action where my son’s rebbe was able to hold up flash cards, posters, the daf in the gemora to show the place. A live call is more contact then video? please dont make us laugh.I am not trying to convince those without internet to allow it. At the same time you cant hamper the yeshivos from trying to use the best products available.

in reply to: Contingency Plans for Extended School Closings #1848622

There are no coodinated contingency plans. Each school will have to make their own plans. I am of the opinion tha they were not aware of DeBlasio’s statement or Cuomo’s reaction until they msde havdalah tonight. I would give them a chance to talk among themselves tomorrow and Monday and would not expect any announcements until after Pesach. If people do not use the internet they will have to talk to experts like TAG on how they need to use technology for their children’s education.

Reb Ellezer, you wrote: “Ashkenezim who do not say it always start by mincha as you cannot make a negative announcement. By Musaf we still say morid hageshem.”

The OP specifically asked about nusach sefard.

millhouse: My LOR, whose shul says hallel both nights with a brocha pakened to say hallel without a brocha.

in reply to: Onion kugel for pesach #1847246

funnybone: i aologize. It was not an onion kugel recipe but a mushroom kugel recipe.

in reply to: Morid haTal #1847070

Reb Eliezer: since we are not in shul there is no announcement. so say to your family members remember to say morid hatal before musaf.

Clarification: and then leined tazria metzora and achrei mos kedoshim for those who returned to EY after parshas tazria metzora was leined in EY.

That same year my cousin’s yeshiva, where most of the bochrim from chutz laaretz returned on the sunday afterparshas shmini in chutz laaretz, his yeshiva leined tazria metzora and achrei mos kedoshim the following shabbos.

in reply to: Kriahs hatorah #1846992

I know that my sons yeshiva in EY, when achron shel pesach was on shabbos leined shmini and tazria metzora for the American andEuropean bochrim who returned before shabbos tazria metzora and then leined tazria metzora and achrei mos kedoshim for those who returned to EY after parshas tazria metzora.

in reply to: Kriahs hatorah #1846923

I heard from Rabi heinemann that when we are allowed to open shuls, the first shabbos we will lein all the missed parshiyos.

The same amount they normally eat during the year. I personally do not each much of the main course at shulchan orech so as to save some appetite for the afikomen. All other seudos I eat my normal portion size.

in reply to: Chicken for the seder – I need advice, fast! #1846354

Reb Eliezer: Neither my maggid shiur or my rov were medayik that it should be muttar as it is mevushal.

in reply to: Chicken for the seder – I need advice, fast! #1846249

Rational: you may disagree but as noted in my response to Reb Eliezer the Mishna Berur does not agree that the meat or chickens own juices are considered liquid to remove it form the TZLI category. see 476:1:1. In the same sif koton he says that tzli keidar is maras ayin.

in reply to: Chicken for the seder – I need advice, fast! #1846195

Reb Eliezer: The mishna berurah says the opposite, “VAFILU TZLI KEIDAR (PIRUSH SHEHNITZLU BIKDEIRA BLO MAYIM VSHUM MASHKEH ELAH MISBASHEL B”MOHEL HAYOTZEI MEMENU) see 476:1:1 https://hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=49627&st=&pgnum=175

in reply to: Community COVID fund #1846196

yid: is there away to identify CR participants. Yes i agree It is a bigger Mitzvah to give money to someone you don’t know. But i still have to be able to identify the person or organization.

in reply to: Chicken for the seder – I need advice, fast! #1846098

Rational: While not eating tzli on pesach night is a minhag, tzli still has a halachic definition. Tzli by halachic definition means roasting, baking, cooking without the medium of a liquid. What we in english call “baking in the oven” if there is no liquid in the pan it is called tzli halachically. I can have two pans in the oven at the same time,
one with chicken and spices and no liquid and the other a piece of meat with 2 or 3 inches of liquid and the chicken halachically would be called tzli and the meat halachically would be called mevushal.

in reply to: Coronavirus: Why would Hashem…? #1846015

yid: there were 12other responses besides mine so I ewanted to make sure. The OpP asked “Why do you think Hashem would effectively do away with our Tefillah B’Tzibur and so much Limud Hatorah?” My response was how is it different than when he sends rain on the first night of sukkos? we know that hashem is demonstrating that he doesn’t want our mitzvah at that time. same here. That IMO is the connection.
