June 12, 2020 9:05 am at 9:05 am in reply to: The “New Normal” for Shul During the Yamim Noraim #1871070lowerourtuition11210ParticipantJoseph: I saw an article quoting Rabbi Dr. Alan Glatt that restrictions are being eased in the five towns and he himself was able to attend a minyan Wednesday night.
June 12, 2020 9:04 am at 9:04 am in reply to: The “New Normal” for Shul During the Yamim Noraim #1871027lowerourtuition11210ParticipantAbbaS: You wrote “LOT 112 Shuls need to prepare now for the Yamen Norian if they need to lease space hire ushers and or security.” This is my point, they may not need any of these by the time Alef Tishrei arrives and why cause already financially hurting institutions with an unnecessary expense.
June 11, 2020 1:28 pm at 1:28 pm in reply to: The “New Normal” for Shul During the Yamim Noraim #1870504lowerourtuition11210ParticipantJoseph: and what if they are? what does their decision for today say about what may be a different decision 3 months from now?
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantSInce this is not the case what is the point?
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantE-daf dot com. shiurim by Rabbi Grossman TZATZAL were recorded years ago.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantRabbi Orlofsky is not charging for the shiur. There are expenses in the cost of the streaming and backend of the technology needed. nothing stopping you from travelling to EY and attending for free, in person. As another poster mentioned their is a one week free trial. for more details https://www.rabbiorlofsky dot com/dafyomi.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantMy Rov doesn’t allow a bedieved…..wait for 9.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantRabbi Dovid Orlofsky gives an online shiur but it is not free. Go to Rabbiorlofsky dot com for details.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantSarah S: Is it a minyan of woman or a minyan of men and women are there too? If its a minyan of men spend as much time as you want.
DR. E: my rov holds that lchatchilah for the Shatz to wait for 9 to answer Amein and Kedusha.
June 8, 2020 8:55 pm at 8:55 pm in reply to: The “New Normal” for Shul During the Yamim Noraim #1869380lowerourtuition11210ParticipantKeeves: while a choleh in certain instances can have 30 kolos blown for them, there is no kulah for only 10. I dont know what rabanim will do but talking now is not going to mean anything if things change for the better two months from now.
June 8, 2020 4:27 pm at 4:27 pm in reply to: The “New Normal” for Shul During the Yamim Noraim #1869262lowerourtuition11210ParticipantGH: Your last line sums it up, we dont have a clear crystal ball to know what will be in 3 months. Fauci and the CDC change things daily. My shul is at the point of rescinding their face mask policy.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantWho is doing a census o fklal yisroel?
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantSince white america reveres african americann athletes as well.
lowerourtuition11210Participant1. Shavuous night, there were individuals learning in shul. My chabura learned in a house.
2. minyanim for mincha maariv in shul, 2 minyanim for shachris in shul
3. Yizkor for men only as we used the ezras nashim for social distancing.
flatbushlowerourtuition11210Participantif i remember correctly the recordings at e-daf dot com include rashi.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantHaimy: If you are learning with the help of Artroll, most of the RASHI’S are elucidated in the commentary. Also remember that gemorah was learnt for many years before Rashi was even born.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantThe video and audio and his actions while held Mr. Floyd down can show it was intentional but not premeditated.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantJoseph: You are correct. But I am not sure how many of the protestors are going to claim mikveh and minyan?
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantJoseph: as announced by both Councilman Deutsch and Yeruchem Silber of Agudas Yisroel, mikveh and minyan are essential religious services and are exempt from the curfew.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantHAimy: What is your proof that Mr. Floyd was a”convicted violent criminal” ?
lowerourtuition11210Participantmik5: How many chassidim go to the mikveh before mincha and maariv?
June 2, 2020 10:00 pm at 10:00 pm in reply to: If N.Y. doesn’t allow summer camps to open, what’s your plan? #1867241lowerourtuition11210Participantyour question is moot. Cuomo announced he is allowing day camps.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantDoing My best: the protests did nothing of the sort. what proof do you have that Chauvin would have gone scot free? He was fired much quicker then the NYC cop who killed Eric Garner. How quickly does a grand jury hand up an indictment? do you think it is minutes after the crime is committed?
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantJoseph: Please define “resisting arrrest”. The videos seem to make that claim unbelievable.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantHow is it possible that many yidden have almost no sympathetic feelings to George Floyd? Where are you getting your information from. Is it because we are not rioting and looting? we are not in the streets yelling no justice no peace? While I feel bad that his life ended in a way that I do not find justifiable noting that I do now will not bring him back to life.
How did the video of George Floyd’s death not bother you? how do you know it doesnt bother me?
The vibes I’m getting from a small portion of yidden are extremely disturbing. Hence your assumptions are invalid to the fact that you are admitting it is based on a “small portion of yidden”.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantJackk: One thing…the other choice is Biden.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantSocial Justice Warriors
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantTanks and carpet bombs
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantI’m happy its not decided by popular vote.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantB”H i have never had to rely on the rov, but i thought the concept that we are included in his, not that he is making it for me.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantJoseph: And I always thought my Rov included me in his; not that he made one for me.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantI am not sure if you know who Yogi Berra was but his saying was “it aint over until its over”. While the intial phase with all its terrible toll may be over, the chance of it returning is possible.
May 24, 2020 2:55 pm at 2:55 pm in reply to: Lakewood Yeshivos closed because of Murphy not Corona. #1864074lowerourtuition11210ParticipantHaimy: Under what halachah should they be opened? Did Murphy rescind the dina dmalchusa dinah of closing? Was Dr. Shanik consulted?
May 21, 2020 3:19 pm at 3:19 pm in reply to: Gravestone (matzeva) Inscriptions seeking opinions/advice #1863215lowerourtuition11210ParticipantReb Eliezer: I have never seen that תנצב’ה is the equivalent of RIP. I always thought that ALAV HASHOLOM is the equivalent of RIP.
May 21, 2020 12:50 pm at 12:50 pm in reply to: Minyanim Legal in New York starting tomorrow #1863156lowerourtuition11210ParticipantGH: No, My Rov stated only someone who was hospitalized has to bentch gomel.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantJoseph: One of the members of the vaad o the five towns is an epidemelogist. His opinion holds more weight than anyone in the CR.
May 20, 2020 10:56 pm at 10:56 pm in reply to: Minyanim Legal in New York starting tomorrow #1862907lowerourtuition11210ParticipantIs it safe to conduct, even though it is legal? I am sure there will be medical professionals who say no but others will say yes
When will your Minyan restart? When will you start attending?Tomorrow, tomorrow
How will people have sufficient places to make enough minyanim of ten people, only, each? That will depend on how many people actually show up.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantGH: Wait until the vaccine s actually approved and shown to be effective. Speculating now is worthless.
lowerourtuition11210Participantcofeeletz: Are you a physician? Dr Ditchek has reported that he has seen documentation of individuals with antibodies and a few week later they were no longer present. This hs been documented based on blood tests. He himself had a significant reduction as is tested on a regular basis as he has to enter the hospital on almost a daily basis.
May 18, 2020 12:54 pm at 12:54 pm in reply to: Which cities in the US will have summer camp open? #1861829lowerourtuition11210ParticipantSyag: “Less activities, no off ground outings? That’s hogwash” Hogwash?????? This is exactly what was in the letter sent from the organization representing the sleepaway camps.
LETTER FROM ASSOCIATION OF JEWISH CAMP OPERATORS IN SULLIVAN COUNTY:
• No out-of-camp trips
• No visiting day
• Staff will not be permitted to leave camp on their day offlowerourtuition11210ParticipantI know that my aunt has benefited from a local volunteer organization that takes her shopping order, a member does the shopping, another member does the delivery with social distancing . It keeps the local store humming with business.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantCant show you but Norene Gilletz A”H , a canadian cookbook author has a recipe on her website gourmania dot com. Search for Gloria’s limelight roast chicken.
lowerourtuition11210Participant‘commonsaychel: “Its all about a bunch of grumpy old men on power trips.” I do not know the Morah Dasra of the shul but I think you owe him an apology for referring to him by such terms. He made a psak that was ignored. That letter was obviously sent to the members of the shul. Why it was published on this forum, I dont know.
lowerourtuition11210Participantas I asked in the comments section on the main page, were the shul members warned in advance of the possible consequences of conducting a non-sanctioned minyan?
May 12, 2020 9:43 pm at 9:43 pm in reply to: What is EY doing in fighting Covi-19 that NYC can learn from” #1860099lowerourtuition11210ParticipantEY is not listening to people like Dr, Fauci.
lowerourtuition11210ParticipantGH: Have you discussed this issue with your boss/employer? Ask him (or her) how they really want you to handle it. If on a pre lockdown day you were not expected to deal with phone calls/e-mails between 9:00 PM and 7:00AM you should not be required to do it now as you are telecommuting.
May 7, 2020 6:34 pm at 6:34 pm in reply to: Zoom VS Teleconference, please rate your experience. #1858470lowerourtuition11210ParticipantHaimy: You asked “Is Zoom a safe technology to use for teaching children?”. It became much safer today as announced by the NYS AG’s office. Not sure if the moderators will allow the link. If not visit the NY AG’s website ag dot ny .gov click on the “Media” tab.
May 6, 2020 9:15 pm at 9:15 pm in reply to: Zoom VS Teleconference, please rate your experience. #1857951lowerourtuition11210ParticipantFor my son we found that Zoom is better than teleconference.
