  • They nursed their babies. The Sifri states that the reason why the MANN did not taste like cucumbers, onions, and leeks is because nursing women are told not to eat those foods. See RASHI Bamidbar 11:5 _ EIS HAKISHUIM.

As I once heard from Rav Hillel David: to walk a dog on shabbos one must be a talmud chacham; yet you don’t see a talmud chacham owning a dog.

in reply to: Almond milk #1289213

DovidBT: While I don’t know about nutritional value, it does help those who I know that are allergic to cow’s milk. I have a gentile co-worker who knows to look for a hechsher that says meat or pareve and feels safe to consume it as he is allergic to milk.

Here is one of my issues with the CR: Why are you bumping a thread, from 2013, and answering in the present as if the question was asked now?

It was actually bumped by a different post, which got deleted

Check on the container. Although pure almond milk should be pareve, I have checked some of the websites and some brands are considered Dairy.

in reply to: Milchig Meal on Shavuos? #1288903

Thank you Joseph. You correctly interpreted what I meant.

in reply to: Milchig Meal on Shavuos? #1288779

There is no community minhag in NY. My family has full milchig meals at night; day meals are either fully milchig or fully fleishig.

Joseph: An adopted child will always cause a yichud issue – jew or non-jew.

in reply to: Pain management #1286481

Depends on how sever the pain is. Aspirin, Tylenol, Motrin. More sever, go to a doctor and possibly be prescribed pain medication.

in reply to: Anti Zionist demonstration planned in Barclays Center #1286480

No godolhadorah YOU missed the point. Your post was totally dismissive of two of the gedolei hador.

in reply to: Anti Zionist demonstration planned in Barclays Center #1286393

godolhadorah: I guess you don’t know who these GEDOLIM are….Harav Shechter, The Rosh Yeshiva of Chaim Berlin and Rav Wachtfogel, the Mashgiach of the South Fallsburg yeshiva (at least have the decency to spell his name correctly). The problem with our generation is that we are putting our faith in the IDF and not the Gedolei Hador (despite your self titled name).

in reply to: Anti Zionist demonstration planned in Barclays Center #1286250

According to another website it is a “Protest against the Israeli Draft of Bnei Yeshiva” not an “anti zionist” demonstration.

in reply to: calling a gadol hador with a shaila ☎️❔ #1285261

joseph: I don’t know who the poseik was on the hotline or how shailos are handled on the hotline. If mik5 named the hotline poseik I may change my opinion; however a psak from a known poseik like Rabbi Forst has (IMHO) more authority.

gadolhadorah: second tier (your term) does make them any less “legitimate.”

I personally have a rav to ask my shailos to. Is he a gadol hador? No, but I do not question is halchic psak or his “eitzos tovos”.

in reply to: calling a gadol hador with a shaila ☎️❔ #1284410

MIK5: Since in your OP you stated that you already asked Rabbi Forst you should tell us his answer. Asking others after you get a psak seems to have a scent of chutzpah.

in reply to: calling a gadol hador with a shaila ☎️❔ #1284096

Harav Dovid Cohen has certain hours for individuals to call with shailos. However, since you already asked your shailoh to Rabbi Forst and received a response you are not supposed to call someone else.

in reply to: Breakfast Before Davening 🍞🍳☕🥛📖 #1284097

The minhag by the lubavitch is to ea something in the morning in case davening ends after chatzos.

Gadolhadorah: in your case that someone is davening vasikin, the odds are they awake before alos hashachar when it is muttar to eat and drink.

in reply to: Trump Eating in Israel #1277812

Godolhadorah: You wrote: ” Its way too soon to focus on either impeachment or invocation of the 25th Amendment”
I never said anything about impeachment or presidential succession. There are serious questions since the President himself sends mixed messages as to his actions which makes he and his staff appear to be in crisis mode at all times. What do I (or other readers) care how he pronounces the names of food?

I stated my personal opinion…….which is what I thought the CR was for.

in reply to: Trump Eating in Israel #1277511

LB: Personally, I don’t care what Trump eats or how he pronounces certain the names of various food items. Maybe it’s time to focus on the serious questions about his presidency and handling his presidential responsibilities.

in reply to: Earning Your Acronym like Rambam, Ramban, Rashba… #1272787

LB: I don’t know how it started but it may be as simple as trying to save on ink. It is shorter to write the initials than the whole name.

The DAAS ZEKEINIM BAALEI TOSFOS gives a different answer.

HKBH warns the Mitzriyim to gather in their houses and anything outside will be killed. He warned us not to leave things outside and we did, showing that we did not believe in HKBH.

in reply to: How to stick out school? #1216031

Do what our son did. Sat down with us and explained why he did not like the Mesivta he was in and why a different Mesivta would be better. After discussing the issues he switched to the other mesivta. While at the time I was not totally in agreement with him, I cannot deny that it was the best thing we could have done for him (and us).

The school has been around for ~8 – 10 years so I am not sure if it would be considered “new”.

1: Why did the school close? Maybe they were closed by the department of health? Maybe they didn’t have enough students to open?

The Yeshiva was recently levied with a hefty fine for not being housed in a Board of Education approved facility in Boro Park. This caused an immediate need for funds which the Rebbetzin tried to raise during the summer. The school was supposed to move to Flatbush for the 2016-2017 school year. However, the parents were notified at a meeting on August 29, 2016 that the yeshiva was in $100,000 in debt and would not be opening.

While credit does go to the Rebbetzin in trying to find other yeshivos for the girls, it did not give time for the parents to find other schools.

2: Why are other schools mechuyav to take in any girls that they don’t want, especially if they don’t conform to the rest of the student body and/or don’t pay full tuition?

    ***********************************************************************

GAW: Your point is valid. I do not believe they are mechuyav.

While Machon was nice enough to take in the 12th grade it was not without some conditions including interviewing the girls. It was not automatic as the author of the article claims. One of the conditions was that at least 20 girls be accepted by Machon.

I do not know about the other grades.

3: The author is a Rabbi of a nearby school in Far Rockaway. I didn’t see him offer any spots. Perhaps just like his school is full, other schools are full as well.

    ****************************************************************

I am not sure that parents will want to bus the girls to Far Rockaway.
