I have eaten at Kosher Grill- 5615 International Drive. There is a Winn Dixie -11957 S Apopka Vineland Rd with a large Kosher section (raw meats and chicken, along with packaged deli and cholov yisroel products).

in reply to: Putting a nickname on a matzeva or footstone. Advice welcomed. #1736685

Joseph : you wrote “English on matzeivas is very modernish.” please explain. I mean I wouldnt have expected english in a shtetl in Europe. Also, I have relatives buried in old montifiore cemetery in Queens. Many matzeivos from the 1930’s already have english on them.

Panda? Many of these children come from homes with large freezers that if guests call unexpectedly they just see their mother pull out another container of already frozen soup, or kugel or extra challah and dont necessarily realize that many of the households in EY who extend themselves to be makayem hachnochos orchim dont shop, cook, freeze or cook extra like we do here in america. Very rarely does my wife cook with exactness (4 people home for shabbos I’m only cooking 4 pieces of chicken. We generally cook extra and they are used for Sunday night leftovers or lunches during the week. It often happens that one of my chidren will say on Friday afternoon btw, ploni is eating here tonight. On the flip side, thank you for opening your home (and heart) to accommodate those who far away from family and friends.

in reply to: Kriah for Yerushalayim #1736259

Ktriah for Yerushalyim? Or kriah for the beis hamikdash? As Bv,an Hazeh, there is a picture of R Moshe Feinstein TAZTAL tearing Kriah at the Kotel when he went to the Knessia Gedolah in 1964. Based on that I think yes.

in reply to: What is the Mekor in the Torah for Parades? #1735917

I dont know if there is one, but I look forward every year for shmini atzeres to watch the “parade” of lubavitch chassidim walking South on Nostrand Avenue from Crown Heights into Flatbush /Sheepshead Bay, Brighton Beach and Coney Island with the simple goal of being mesameach on SImchas Torah in shuls who dont have a large base of mispallelim and make each one “leibidig” and to add to “brov am hadras melech”.

WATCH: Rav Yitzchok Yosef Says Eida Chareidis Meat is Among the Lowest Hechsherim for Sephardim

I think even the moderators had enough of RG’s chumras and saying people who are meikel are “wimping” out. Thers’e a story with R’ Moshe Feinstein that someone asked for a psak and wasn’t looking for kulos. R’ Moshe responded if the halachah allows for a kulah I will pasken that way.

in reply to: Is Harry Potter kosher #1732367

In 2002, (only three of the books were published at the time) Harav Moshe Meir Weiss of the Agudah of Staten Island wrote a book entitled “A Torah Perspective for our Challenging Times” and dedicated a whole chapter to what we can learn from the Harry Potter books. He did caution that later books might be problematic as the 3 main characters become teenagers and how “clean” the author would keep it as hormones start to rage (which Rowlings pretty much did although other comments afterwards about the adult characters is definitely an issue). As an aside, Rabbi Weiss dedicated the book in memory of the firefighters from Staten Island who died on 9/11/2001).

in reply to: Q regarding Tefillin #1731827

RG: I can read english and this is what you wrote “It is interesting to point out that when these Mishna use the word totofos, the Mishna specifically refers to wearing the shel rosh on the head.” No, its referring to wearing women’s jewelry on the head or what they generally refer to in english as a “frontlet”

in reply to: Q regarding Tefillin #1731301

I always thought that Shabbos 6:1 and 6:5 were talking about women’s jewelry not tefillin.

in reply to: Mislabeled Kosher Products #1731251

If someone would the the time to look up the items on the OU website they state in plain english which items are dairy and which are pareve.

    For example

Coffee-Mate Coffee-mate Hazelnut Dairy OU-D Symbol required. Not Kosher for Passover.
Coffee-Mate Non-Dairy Creamer Powder-Lite Dairy OU-D Symbol required. Not Kosher for Passover.
Coffee-Mate Natural Bliss Coconut Milk Creamer – Sweet Creme Pareve OU Symbol required. Not Kosher for Passover.
***I looked at the bottle and it only has the OU and it states “Non-Dairy”. (i added this)****

Once again the US Yated is different than The Yated in EY (despite the same name). Besides is Hadegel even available in the USA?

in reply to: Mislabeled Kosher Products #1731125

DY: Which International Delight non-dairy? Coffee Mate has some OU-d and some are Pareve.

RG: please dont confuse the american Yated with the one in EY.

in reply to: Shabbos Food #1730452

RG: im going off topic for a question to you. I peel a cucumber on shabbos with a vegetable peeler, will you eat it?

in reply to: Shabbos Food #1730447

and once again RG you use your favorite saying “wimp out” when you are machmir on something. you want to be machmir fine, but using a kulah does mean wimping out.

in reply to: Shabbos Food #1730445

where did laskern say anything about liquid? he used the word food.

RG: you wrote “I am also very machmir on melting congealed liquids (as common on chicken or meats) – which I consider 100% ossur even if it does not reach y.s.” and why if it doesn’t reach yad soledes are you considering it assur? if I take chicken out of the fridge and the congealed fat melts at room temperature why would it be assur?

in reply to: Milchig Meal on Shavuos #1729625

Rg: you started this thread with a series of questions that included:

    4. Does anyone serve pizza or is it considered not yom tov’dik?
    5. Does anyone use milk to make kiddush for this meal?

Where did you indicate you wanted a “light” discussion? Yes we have served and eaten homemade pizza on shavuous day as I consider it on the same level as cheese blintzes, cheese cake, baked ziti, eggplant parmesean, lasagne. I dont serve any of these these at a shabbos seudah becuase i eat fleishigs at the first two seudos not because they are not shabbosdik. And while you proved to me that milk is chamar medina I dont know anyone who makes Kiddush on milk.

in reply to: Milchig Meal on Shavuos #1729003

RG: once again you use your favorite “wimp out” comment. and “ashkenazim dont know better are meikel”. Did you ever consider the real possibility we dont consider it a sakana? Even the Mogan Avrahom states that the the sakana of fish and meat may no longer be in effect. See MB (173: 3). Please show me the gemora that states outright that fish and milchigs are a sakana.

in reply to: Milchig Meal on Shavuos #1728975

DY: that is the question? where is the line? I can say anything is a “weekday” food and therefore is not shabbos dik. You say hot dogs and hamburgers are not shabbos dik? what about roasted chicken? what makes that more shabbosdik? are meatballs shabbosdik? what makes hard salami shabbosdik? or herring? or gefilte fish? or boiled carp? or shnitzel? or even cholent? imean people in texas eat chili all week long. What makes blintzes and cheesecake yomtovdik for shavuous and pizza is not?

in reply to: Milchig Meal on Shavuos #1728934

RG: on another point, while sefardim are machmir on not mixing fish and milchigs many ashkenazim are not (ie how many times is lox and cream cheese served at a seudas bris?

in reply to: Milchig Meal on Shavuos #1728922

maybe we dont serve pizza on shabbos because we generally eat fleishigs not because it is a weekday food. again, what is the geder? my children find franks n blanks a special maachil but in your opinion it would be a weekday food. I have a shabbos talis that is the exact same as my weekday talis (size and cost) but it is set aside or shabbos. Why is pizza diferent from blintzes or salmon croquettes ot potato knishes or lox and whitefish? And where do see that we are meikel with the food for seuda shlishi and why is it not a proof? isn’t it still shabbos? Bettre uestion, do you serve any cold cuts on shabbos?

in reply to: Milchig Meal on Shavuos #1728848

reb G. Please define an adom gadol. a noted poseik in Flatbush once was told that an Adom Gadol said ” something and his response was just how tall was he? Which leads me to question what is the “geder” for a “weekday” food. Is it based on time and place? Would sushi be a “weekday” food? My wife bakes salmon fillets every Thursday night for supper? does make it a “weekday” food that can’t be served on shabbos? if so it may fall under the concept of “ein ldavar sof”. My family enjoys mushroom and onion kugel? it that not a shabbos maachol since my family enjoys it? many shuls serve egg salad and tuna fish at seuda shlishis? isnt that “weekday food?

in reply to: Do women need to stay up all night of Shavuos? #1724997

G613: Yes you are farther north than the USA and EY where haneitz hachama is around 5:30 AM. SO many people (who do not normally stay up all night to learn find it difficult learning from approximately 10:30 PM to 4:30 AM and then daven. Please also remember that in EY they not only say Akdomus but also lein megilas Rus and say yizkor.

in reply to: Do women need to stay up all night of Shavuos? #1724765

lakern: I understand why you do what you do. at least 50% of my shul does the same thing, stay up learning then go home and sleep for a few hours and come back for the minyan scheduled for our regular starting time. Maybe choaaid ahould listen to some of Rabbi Dovid Orlofsky’s speches. There is one in which he refers to it as the least insprired shachris of the year for the exact reason that you cited.

in reply to: Do women need to stay up all night of Shavuos? #1724605

Please do. let us know how it goes. Although it might come under the general category of mitzvas asay shehhazmon grama.

in reply to: Hallel with Bracha on YH? #1724492

DrYidd: My rabbeim did not say hallel but did say tachnun so like you i am following there lead.

in reply to: Hallel with Bracha on YH? #1724489

REb: Most people make there own brocha on hallel. And yes the shul that I grew up in and the shul I daven now says tachnun.

in reply to: Hallel with Bracha on YH? #1724334

YO:based on your latest addition to this thread why did you start the thread in the first place?

in reply to: Hallel with Bracha on YH? #1724082

I do not say halel and I dont skip tachnun.

in reply to: How Much for Mechiras Chametz #1718852

rg: And your fallacy since you dont know me is that after the siyum bechorim I dont eat any chametz. Your other assumption that I dont know what happens at the mechira is also off the mark. So maybe its time to come off your pedestal and stop making glaringly insulting comments to others.

in reply to: The four “sons” – what about daughters? #1718733

RG: OBviously not as we are told Sheheino yodea lishol. No again you and your feminist agenda want to interpret l’vincha as children and not son as is the literal meaning. And the mishna in pesachim (10:4) says. “מָזְגוּ לוֹ כוֹס שֵׁנִי, וְכָאן הַבֵּן שׁוֹאֵל אָבִיו are you going to interpret BEN as daughter too?

in reply to: How Much for Mechiras Chametz #1718729

While you are busy on erev pessach stuffing the last morsels of chometz in your mouth, the rov is busy selling the chometz with a goy. I dont know about you but the only chametz I eat on erev Pesach is the cake served at the siyum bechorim which is long before sof zeman ACHILA not SOF ZEMAN BIUR which is when it has to be sold by. If it is not sold then Bittul should help (if done properly). Famous story with the Chazon Ish that he had a dream that made him check with the rov who instead of selling the blios in the pots sold the pots and then went and toiveled all his pots. I have never heard of a rav who did not do the mechira but last year I am pretty sure that a store in EY destroyed all their chametz because the partners did not make the mechira.

Since most people eat common vegetables for their area for Karpas there is no reason to remind someone about a shechiyanu. Or you may have it in mind with the shehechiyanu of kiddush ( as one does on the new fruit or clothes the second night of Rosh Hashana)
