The chassidish method works for two main reasons:
1) They start the boys at about the same age as the girls. So, they don’t have the litvish age gap problem of boys starting at 22-23 & girls starting at 18-19.
2) The parents do much more checking & before letting a shidduch even begin – are comfortable with the couple getting engaged.
The litvish system is set up differently & to change it would be difficult.
lkwdfellowMemberAn old Yiddish expression when sending a kid to Cheder – “lernst flassig!!” There’s no really good English translation for flassig. Some have the minhag to add on “un gei tzi deh toilet…” – which doesn’t need translation.
Sorry for my tzi & Tzu mix-up – hard to express oneself in Yiddish typing in english…
lkwdfellowMemberBP Totty – ven meh shickt a kint tzu ah ChassidisheH chay’der – meh zugt far deh kint, “lernst flashig un gei tzu deh toilet…”

lkwdfellowMemberSacrilege – not drunkards, chas v’sholom, we just appreciate a good bourbon…
lkwdfellowMemberSacrilege – B”H, i’m very not single….
lkwdfellowMemberSacrilege – am I the only fellow in lakewood who likes bourbon?
lkwdfellowMemberSacrilege – Bourbon/Scotch/Wine of the month club?? What’s that? sounds interesting…
lkwdfellowMemberA few men gift ideas…….. For the guy who never asks direction – a GPS is a great gift. And for the guy who talks on his cell when driving – installing a “parrot” bluetooth is a good idea. Also, a starter that you can start your car from indoors when it’s freezing outside is a super gift.
lkwdfellowMemberLooks like Motty is really out of the picture…
lkwdfellowMemberrandom1 – they might ship to you – 732-886-1112. They make a lot of different cakes, cookies, etc. that are sugar free whole wheat.
lkwdfellowMemberrandom1 – I know that you asked for a place in Brooklyn, but I think that in Lakewood Classy Cakes on Clifton sells sugar free whole wheat donuts.
December 7, 2010 7:57 pm at 7:57 pm in reply to: Shaitle Fraud Chillul Hashem Video: Sha'ar haTumah haChamishim #717830lkwdfellowMembermyfriend – so it’s a win-win deal, even if you lose the case you’re covered. I was just trying to figure out why people would want to appear on these types of shows.
December 7, 2010 7:48 pm at 7:48 pm in reply to: Shaitle Fraud Chillul Hashem Video: Sha'ar haTumah haChamishim #717826lkwdfellowMemberHow much do these TV Court shows pay the plantiff & defendant to have their case tried on the show?
lkwdfellowMembercherrybim – yes, someone told me that as I was leaving the simcha. I wouldn’t have tried it had I known.
Sacrilege – I’m not sure how much it costs, but it was very good. And, BTW, payment is in bourbon only…
lkwdfellowMemberSacrilege – I had a few shots of Pappy Van Winkle 20 year this Shabbos & I’m not sure if I can recommend anything else at the moment… it’s in a different ballpark… very geshmack!
lkwdfellowMembercherrybim – I agree – Knob Creek is pretty good. I also recently had the Old Grandad 114 & thought it was pretty good.
Sacrilege – you think I could get a job as a bourbon consultant?
lkwdfellowMembercharliehall – I agree with you. We don’t know why these things happen & our job is to search ourselves & see what each of us needs to do to improve.
lkwdfellowMemberSacrilege – I have tried it, however I wasn’t crazy about it. Just my personal opinion…
Recently, I went back to an old favorite – Wild Turkey 101. It’s a very solid bourbon. The only problem is that after you take a shot or two of it, anything less strong tastes very weak…
lkwdfellowMembercherrybim – sorry, meant to say – trust me, I’m also a pretty strict BOURBON drinker, NOT SCOTCH. I guess I already had 1 l’chayim too many l’koved Chanuka….
lkwdfellowMemberarc – yes, I highly reccomend it. It’s my one of my favorites. It is better than Corner Creek, but usually a bit more expensive than Corner Creek.
lkwdfellowMembercherrybim – trust me, I’m also a pretty strict scotch drinker. I’m not converted like your sons-in-law, I have been for many years. However, on the rare occasion that I come to a Kiddush & there’s no bourbon left – scotch in a bourbon cask will do b’dieved. But, it’s certainly no subsitute for my regulars – Baker’s, Maker’s Mark, Corner’s Creek, Rowan’s Creek, etc.
lkwdfellowMemberarc – please read what I wrote: it’s a scotch that’s in a bourbon cask. Additionally, I wrote that it’s “shoveh l’chol nefesh” – not that it’s shoveh to bourbon. Chas v’sholom, I would never say that a scotch is shoveh to a bourbon. Rather, it can be enjoyed by both scotch & bourbon drinkers, as it has the taste of both.
lkwdfellowMemberNot sure what real men drink, but personally I really like bourbon much better than scotch.
Mod-80 – If you want to bring something that’s “shoveh l’chol nefesh” – try a scotch that’s in a bourbon cask. One great bottle is Auchetoshen classic, it runs about 30-32 bucks & is enjoyed by both scotch & bourbon drinkers!
November 24, 2010 8:07 pm at 8:07 pm in reply to: Modern Orthodoxy, Chassidus, and the Rambam #712190lkwdfellowMemberI think these chareidi/MO discussions really are a waste of time. Everyone considers anyone to the left of themselves MO & anyone to the right of themselves fanatical. The bottom line is – everyone needs to have a Rav who they follow. If you have a Rav whose derech hachaim you follow – whatever it is – you are in good shape. And, if you don’t – you’re in trouble.
lkwdfellowMemberEli Beer’s Yachad Kulam
lkwdfellowMemberreal-brisker – of course you would if you’re a real brisker – the brisker mishpacha still wear grey hats!!
If you look at pictures of the Alte Mirrers – they all wore grey hats, as did most Yeshivaleit back then.
lkwdfellowMemberreal-brisker – Hashem’s Son is takka right – I don’t wear a feather (nor a pin :-)), but my shailah was why the “hamon am” stopped. I think it’s like most fads, just give it a few years & people will start again. My only shailah is if people will also start wearing blue & grey hats???
lkwdfellowMemberHow come people stopped wearing feathers in their hats???
lkwdfellowMemberIf the government wants to make cigarettes illegal – they should do so. (Although all that probably will do is make a huge black market…) By raising the taxes on cigarettes & putting graphic pictures on packs – what are really accomplishing?

lkwdfellowMemberWhat happened to straw hats? They used to be much more popular, but recently I see less people wearing them. They are much lighter & look pretty neat. Of course, I mean from Memorial Day until labor Day. To wear one after that is question of Baal Tosif 🙂

lkwdfellowMemberThp plot thickens… The story is getting spookier…. he is still missing & the police don’t find signs of foul play… They think he may have run away….
lkwdfellowMemberThe story is getting exciting. Motty is still missing, they found his empty car…
lkwdfellowMemberWonderful people. They should have lots of Hatzlocha in their new location!!
lkwdfellowMemberWithout a question – Schwartz’s matjas wins. Their Shtiglitz comes in a close second. Of course, you need the right bourbon to go along with it…
lkwdfellowMemberThe all-time winner in my humble opinion is Rowan’s Creek. It’s not very expensive, has a great taste and deserves to be the YWN Coffee Room Bourbon of the Year.
lkwdfellowMemberI mentioned a few favorites on another thread, but it’s always nice to repeat a l’chayim… Corner’s Creek, Knob Creek, Baker’s, Maker’s Mark & Wild turkey rare breed are a few of my personal favorites.
And now, for the herring (which really needs a thread of its own)- there’s nothing like Schwartz’s Matjas.
Kichel – I’m ok withh any type – as long as it’s not sugary…
lkwdfellowMemberSacrilege – your father has got to get past Woodford, I mean – it’s not bad, but there are so many other better bottles out there…
lkwdfellowMemberSacrilege – yup, that’s the one. It has my haskomah, although it doesn’t need it. I had a few shots of it at a kiddush recently. I also highly recomend Corner’s Creek – very decent bottle at a great price – usually in the low 20’s & very good taam.
lkwdfellowMemberI personally like bourbons, but always keep a bottle of Auchetoshen around if there’s a scoth drinker that comes. It’s somewhat shoveh l’chol nefesh, as it’s bottled in bourbon casks. (and it’s not too expensive either…)
lkwdfellowMemberSacrilege – that’s one of the many mailohs of living in lakewood… we can buy the cheaper pappy here… Seriously, I recently had Prichard’s Double barrel which is about 50-55 bucks & it was great, did you ever try it?
lkwdfellowMemberSacrilege – they sell cheaper bottles of pappy van winkle for about $60, not as good as the expensive one, but not bad at all. Also, they sell a Baron Hirsch cheaper bottle for about 30-32 bucks, which is excellent.
lkwdfellowMemberSacrilege – I have bought basil’s on sale for about 33-34 dollars, which is still cheaper than any decent scotch. For a few dollars more, I highly reccomend Rowan’s Creek. If you don’t need the smoother finish – there are so many geshmake bottles – Maker’s Mark, Baker’s, Wild Turkey Rare Breed – to name a few…..
