JosephParticipant
RY, a girl slave/shidduch market stand would be easier.
JosephParticipantDoes makeup also make her look 75 pounds less, a lighter shade hair color, a bit taller and no pimples or wrinkles?
JosephParticipantYou should tear the sign down and give it to him and say you did him a favor by removing the old expired sign.
JosephParticipantAvi, from their face; not from a picture of their face.
February 7, 2016 8:34 pm at 8:34 pm in reply to: School Board Monitors in Lakewood & East Ramapo #1157141JosephParticipantLC: With the loss of courtesy bussing, almost 50% of the public school students, including those add young as five years old, will be walking through dangerous streets to school as they no longer have bus transportation.
Last week the Hispanic parents held a protest against the loss of courtesy bussing now that they realized, whoops, it isn’t just the Jews who are losing courtesy bussing. And their working hours preclude being able to walk with their children to school and back.
And, no, in both NY and NJ the tax increase cannot happen if the voters voted it down. No matter how many times.
JosephParticipantSounds like chillul Shabbos.
JosephParticipantWhy do you need a beis din of three altogether for an uncontested Get?
JosephParticipantIf one of the parties (say the defendent) cannot afford the beis din fees, what does a beis din do considering the halachic problem of accepting more in fees from one party to the case than the other may constitute bribery?
JosephParticipantWhat is the typical fee for a gittin case? The same hourly earlier quoted?
BTW, the BDA website states that they are “affiliated” with the RCA and OU.
February 7, 2016 4:23 pm at 4:23 pm in reply to: School Board Monitors in Lakewood & East Ramapo #1157139JosephParticipantZD: Americans are more tolerant of failing public schools than of raising taxes. By law local property/school taxes cannot be raised without voter approval. By state law there is no way to shove higher local taxes down voters throughts without their consent. Even if that means the public schools are cut back to the bare legal necessities mandated and all public school electives that aren’t mandated by law are eliminated.
JosephParticipantHe should’ve put it on an earlier page.
February 7, 2016 3:27 pm at 3:27 pm in reply to: How to Deal with a Request for a Shidduch Picture #1136578JosephParticipantoomis: you do need a government license to get married…
JosephParticipantCTL, incidentally, how frequently and in what iterations do you see cases in your practice intersect with a beis din case?
JosephParticipantHe is Modern Orthodox and affiliated with the BDA, which is an arm of the RCA, thus not a neutral observer. I would strongly dispute they are fairer than the average Chareidi beis din. Indeed when it comes to sensitive cases (involving more than just financial issues) where modern sensibilities conflict with straight halacha, they are liable to bend halachic considerations in rendering a verdict.
JosephParticipantBDA might have a higher fee structure than an average Chareidi beis din, perhaps?
JosephParticipantMishna Brura seems to be the most given set of seforim at a Bar Mitzvah.
JosephParticipantI never encountered a dog owner in the mikvah. They don’t seem to be the weekly (forget daily) mikvah-going types.
February 7, 2016 12:49 pm at 12:49 pm in reply to: How to Deal with a Request for a Shidduch Picture #1136575JosephParticipantYou also need to give your social security number to get your drivers license.
JosephParticipantHave tuition costs gone up over the last few years?
JosephParticipantHow does a beis din typically structure their fees – it is split 50/50 between the plaintiff and defendant?
What dollar range do beis din fees typically fall between?
JosephParticipantBlank emails too.
JosephParticipantIt is very offensive, extremely wrong, and it should absolutely be denied.
JosephParticipantAh gut Shabbos!
JosephParticipantYou just did.
JosephParticipantShoes are not either required; why don’t people wear sandals instead?
JosephParticipantFor what its worth, for $60 you can buy a black fedora at Macys.
Do they look like a typical yeshivish fedora? Do you know frum people who wear those Macy’s hats to shul?
JosephParticipantAre you medically licensed? Does the AMA or APA permit diagnosis-via-internet-forums?
JosephParticipantWhy are you in favor of it, as your original question still stands: How do we know that Yidden ought to be celebrating a wedding “anniversary” altogether?
Yes, you’re right. When you’re right, you’re right. I must admit, the question does still stand and my support may have been premature.
JosephParticipantAs long as the supper wasn’t burned I’m totally in favor of it. 😉
JosephParticipantIsn’t it proper to first ask the question whether Yidden ought to be going to a non-Jewish sports arena altogether?
JosephParticipantI asked a question; I intimated nothing.
JosephParticipantSee Avoda Zora 17a and Rashi that kissing their hand is a sign of honor and respect.
JosephParticipantI don’t have to prove anything. It is befirush that one must love Hashem more than one even loves his own children or spouse. (Rema, OC 98:1)
JosephParticipantI get my memories of the good times (i.e. yeshiva days) every time I go to a shiur!
JosephParticipantI’m a flaming BT, as aquestioningjew realized. B”H my spouse and kids are all on the same wavelenth of being flaming BTs for the past 30 years, so it works out beautifully. I really should recognize that for some people this is as much as they can do. For Wolf’s level I told him I’d be happy if he’d promise to at least only celebrate the Jewish dates and not the non-Jewish dates. For you perhaps I should expect less and still be happy at least you keep more than a Half Shabbos. 😉 Obviously I’d expect much more from the Rosh Yeshiva’s einekel.
But like “aquestioningjew”, all I did was being a questioning Jew by asking, specifically, “Isn’t it proper to first ask the question whether Yidden ought to…”; I didn’t present it as a legal fact.
JosephParticipantMy Shabbos Goy moved and I’m looking for a replacement.
JosephParticipantQueen: What is the em referring to – money?
JosephParticipantA beautiful gift would be an oversized Tehilim that you can both look into together on your anniversary, and pray from together with your spouse on your anniversary to beseech Hashem for everything you need.
JosephParticipantWhy do you “recognize” the non-Jewish date to celebrate when you can celebrate the anniversary on the Jewish date?
JosephParticipantAt least promise me that you will only celebrate on the Jewish date and not on the non-Jewish date.
February 3, 2016 10:50 pm at 10:50 pm in reply to: Replacement idiom for "when the fat lady sings" #1134872JosephParticipantWomen may wear non-tznius clothing at the pool, by ones spouse or in front of other women-only, with no men present, too.
You responded “Not true” to the comment that “Singing ladies aren’t tznius”. On that basis you should be claiming “Not true” to a comment that wearing immodest clothing isn’t tzniusdik.
February 3, 2016 9:05 pm at 9:05 pm in reply to: Replacement idiom for "when the fat lady sings" #1134870JosephParticipantSinging ladies aren’t tznius
Not true. You may not be able to listen to them, but they are free to sing in places where there is a reasonable expectation that men will not hear them.
That’s like claiming a sleeveless gown is tznius… so long as no man sees it.

February 3, 2016 7:35 pm at 7:35 pm in reply to: Replacement idiom for "when the fat lady sings" #1134864JosephParticipantwhy do we want to replace the fat lady?
See my second post on top.
JosephParticipantI’d recommend going for the gold.
JosephParticipantIf the school has a no internet at home rule must they also have rules outlawing kids from homes where the parents talk during davening in shul or dress less than tznius outside?
JosephParticipantThe kid whose father has netflix might be watching netflix when popa’s not home, while the kid whose father doesn’t report his off-the-books cash business is less affected by his father’s misdeed, even assuming he knows anything about it.
JosephParticipantOh, no, I think we need back all our old beis yaakov maidels to get anywhere close to getting it done that fast! Where did they all run off to over the last few years? In the alte teigen they were causing threads to go to a new page every 30 minutes.
JosephParticipantOkay, rub it in. 😉
We should still hit 600,000 this month, methinks.
