Sometimes when I hear about someone’s childhood where there was abuse, I wonder what his/her experiences would be like, had someone intervened.

Without CPS, there can be severe trauma and the child doesn’t know that it isn’t normal.

With CPS, there is also severe trauma and the child has nonfamily coming in and making huge changes, and telling the child that abuse is wrong.

The priority goes to parents raising their children, so long as they become better parents and work with CPS.

In retrospect, I wonder if there is research on adults who were abused as children without intervention vs those whose parents had CPS step in.

Sometimes parents abuse their adult children. Would that have stopped or been mitigated if CPS came in, early on, provoking changes in the parents’ behavioral patterns?

WTP: According to chazal (hopefully I am using this term correctly), every Jew can say that he/she is a direct descendant of Yosef ha Tzaddik.

It doesn’t interfere with your known lineage. It adds to it. Yet I don’t think that you’re obligated to say it.

This is one thing, that I am holding onto as true, that I learned from a shiur, and was confirmed by a LOR.

    Yepp yepp.

I never heard of the civil rights commission’so recommendation.

Did she say that she agreed with it and would she have followed through?

Isn’t it possible that commissions have any number of recommendations that get scraped at some point anyway?

That’s what I learned too about freeze dried fruit. The insects fall off in the process.

About how insects are eliminated during freeze drying (OU):

“This great problem [of insect infestation] is resolved through the drying procedure itself.

Not only is moisture removed from the freeze-dried product, but from any insects present as well.

Once the insects are dried, invariably they will break apart and be reduced to dust.

The drying procedure eliminates infestation concerns by destroying any possible insects.

This also holds true for dehydrated, or air-dried, fruits and vegetables.” (OU)

YY, Thanks for pointing that out 🙂

Online I see that they sell a compact size.

In the US, the full 5 volume set is $130.49. Sending internationally has to go through customs. Like you said, it’s another great expense. Hmmm.

Good question. Did you try asking them? Sounds like they’re open to your feedback.

It was already motzei Shabbat at that point.

DY, what do you mean by muktzeh? If it was Shabbat then I wouldn’t be able to use take out the tissue? Or I wouldn’t be able to wear my jacket because I’d be carrying something?

If it was Shabbos [use them interchangeably] and I was in an eruv, would I have been permitted to use the old tissue? To wear the coat?

True. Very true. I forgot what regular tabouli tastes like. I used to love the Costco tub of tabouli. It’s been decades. I don’t know if it’s kosher.

I like quinoa tabouli. I don’t know if quinoa makes for good falafels.

Once I took ground quinoa and made microwaved kneidelach things. They tasted a lot like dense unfried falafels.

But I think the texture of bulgur is the secret to making them falafeli.

Why take meds Health? Don’t they have side effects?

This is a normal thing that happens to many boys.

What happens when they stop medication? Would it cause bloating and fluid retention?

Omgosh I’ve been learning how to not feel guilty. It’s really difficult. Often, I apologize to the person behind me. Then I thank them profusely as I am leaving the line. Also thanking the cashier.

I notice people apologize to me when they have credit card/money issues at the checkout. Sometimes I say, “All good, I’ve been there.” Other times I tell them that they are fine, and to take their time.

It’s interesting that there is a thread about this kind of thing. I don’t think I’ve ever talked about it.

Thanks for the chance to share 🙂

Youngest. My older sibling has waaaay more baby pictures than I do. Such a super cute kid too; I love seeing those pictures of life before I was born.

Having an older sibling means that your parents were already parenting before you came into the world. That’s pretty cool.

WinnieThePooh: I recently sent two important cards to mishpacha. I am a direct descendant of Yosef ha Tzaddik (as we all are), so I know that ayin hara cannot touch me, B”H.

Still… for the next time, and hereafter, should I really not put any zip code? I get why it helps to do that in the US, so it’s sent directly to Israel.

However, isn’t it risky to just put the city without a zip? I know that Israel is small, still how will they know?

You may be able to get a rabbi to teach you via Skype or Facetime for now.

Though, I know that isn’t the same as the real life experience.

Isn’t there a rule about practing mitzvot before conversion? I don’t know why the first three posters didn’t sway you not to convert.

    Just in case, here goes:

Why be Jewish? Yes so you may feel connected to Judaism. So what. A lot of good Noahides feel this way. You can be a perfectly good person without becoming Jewish. Just observe the 7 Noahide Laws.

Being Jewish is joining a minority that much of the world cannot stand. You could be a victim of terror or a hate crime just for being Jewish. Why would anyone do that, seriously?

Are you sure that you really want to do this? Maybe take some time to think about it. You have your entire life to convert. It also affects relationships with family members, friends, and significant others.

Please think this through another time. You may realize this isn’t for you.

    All the best.

It had a dirty tissue in the pocket! And I needed it, so I used it again. Now this Israeli tissue, from last year mind you, is in my kitchen garbage can.
