It’s kind of creepy to know that a regular person could be spying on you with a drone.

Ones that weigh “more than two sticks of butter” need to be registered with the FAA (CNN… quoted from memory, closed the tab after reading and not opening it back up right now… to keep this train of thought).

The cool thing is that a journalist can use a drone, which can help in places where journalists are excluded, or it is dangerous.

Do you have to be using the remote control continuously for it to fly? Does it have a hover or autopilot?

It would be cool if you could make home movies with it, like video taping family or a party without having to pull out a cell phone or camcorder (is that the modern word?).

They are having fun! I disagree with the showoff thing.

What’s the point of someone saying, “Rah! Thou cannot make more than one word at a time.” When the whole essence of this thread is light-hearted and made to challenge one to come up with words.

I think these posters are both…

Heads up: At today’s parsha class on Bo, we learned that tefillin comes from a couple paragraphs in this week’s parsha.

Turns out that tefillin DO need to be checked twice every seven years.

My whole, “How come tefillin don’t need to be checked if they are used regularly?” question was shut down by the rabbi and even a couple classmates. All were in consensus that I was mistaken.

The rabbi explained that the tefillin is more prone to needing repairs or getting worn out (whatever the terms are here), since they are moved around and can get hair gel or even sweat, etc.

–Yes that makes sense and common sense is that they would need to be checked… then why does the Rambam say that they do not. Did I misinterpret Rambam?

[fyi -I will email the rabbi about this B”H. Would love to hear from you still]

Wondering if that’s the consensus overall –> That tefillin MUST be checked twice every seven years and there is no question about it.

    Aha!!! There is a reason…

In today’s parsha class we learned that every nation that neglected family and home life disappeared in history, such as the Romans.

Hashem wanted us to slaughter the Pascal lamb at home because that is where kiddusha begins.

For cultures that put family life last, they don’t last.

So… wouldn’t the airplane childfree zones be a reflection of the society’s values?

In other words, are they not putting business and comfort in front of family and integration of generations?

LU, a lot of times I check. Maybe I can make a thread with a list of all the words already used and each post can be alphabetized.

It’s okay if the word is used again. I mean it’s nice to have new words. It helps to remember the word when it is just two per post. I noticed that I don’t remember the words that I read when they are sandwiched in between.

    Do you have any ideas?

I know a few cool outdoorsy people who love their suburu station wagons that they take on their outdoorsy adventures.

For me though they are not fun and I don’t want one.

I can understand why one wouldn’t want a minivan either. Supposedly the sliding door and seating is super useful when one is loading and unloading kids.

Wheat is one of the five grains. Rice is not.

There are diff traditions on what to say for rice cakes.

Rice us also a ceremonial food in some nations. Also offered in avodah zara.

Does that have anything to do with rice blessings not being mezonos? Maybe not to confuse it with being one of the five grains?

Oh. My guess was that you wanted to sit next to someone frum because of tznius, lack of lashon hara (or at least the language would be somewhat censored), maybe that person knows your beshert, the person may also order a special kosher hashgacha, and you can talk devrei Torah on the plane.

Btw, I never call to reserve a ticket. Besides a random time that I bought it the same day at the airport, all other flight purchases were made online. I paid for the flight before selecting a seat.

Sometimes even when I have a boarding pass printed out, the seat was changed by the airline when I check-in. So during check-in, I confirm that I have an aisle seat. If not, they find one for me, B”H.

Possibly. Maybe since she knew that you are frum, making sure that you sat next to another woman was part of her job/service.

I think “just saying” is also contagious. One of the Mods said it to me. I heard someone else saying it too. Actually read it.

Oh that makes sense if LF meant LU.

Thanks for the feedback also on “just saying.” To me it reminds me of how sometimes I say something, because I feel the need to convey something to another person. However, it’s not something long enough to have following sentences. Sometimes I say, “Okay the end.”

Here, maybe “the end,” would seem curt.

Dunno… I’m experimenting with language on this forum.

Excommunication is censorship of a person.

That is also Jewish, but isn’t it a last resort?

Interesting how last resort has a less than pleasant connotation, and then people pay hundreds and thousands to spend a week in the resort.

I guess it’s removed. Further extent. Out there.

Sometimes people snort when they laugh.

I don’t know. I’ve done this before. Several months ago. I’m tired of thinking about it. Been thinking in circles.

When it comes time, and someone B”H will be here to help me actually go car shopping, I want to know what I want.

The whole confusion is really envisioning where I want to be down the road.

I listened to a shiur on shidduchim today. This rabbi is very different from Rabbi Manis Friedman, who says that your spouse has already been decided for you and to put your list away. This rabbi from the shiur is really big on making a list and focusing on whether or not this person fits your list and your vision.

One thing he said is to consider who you actually are. If someone doesn’t like waking up early and learning, one shouldn’t just marry a woman who expects her husband to be davening in a minyan three times a day. He may say that he really is this good learner inside, and the right woman will bring that out in him, but generally he isn’t being honest with himself.

So am I like that boy, thinking about needing a car to juggle a future family or life, while today I really only am at this level?

    Or…

Is it like growing, where today I would have never guessed that I would be doing what I am doing, living where I am living, and loving the universe as it is, had I mapped out my life five years ago. No way no way would I have ever believed that I would have come this far. So why limit myself and think that all I deserve is a muznach rechev/mechoneet that needs frequent maintenance and does shaky things? Why not just accept that just because I have a less than metzooyan car today does not mean that tomorrow I won’t be capable of something better.

Especially now I want to grow and fulfill my purpose in this universe, as Hashem Willed for me.

Part of that is getting over the hurdle of finding a new shell for myself, new vehicle, and is this something like making a Must Have list for Shidduchim? Or is it pre-determined and do I need to pray and trust that the right car for me will come, even if it doesn’t look like it right away?

They may need access to free doggie poop bags and a trashcan. Even then they may not change their behavior without consequences.

Some people in my neighborhood also don’t clean up after their dogs. My neighbors without dogs are suspicious of everyone with a dog. Kinda bothersome because I also don’t like stepping in dog poop. Goshness.

You can reserve a seat next to someone of the same gender? Really? I didn’t know that was possible. I’m guessing this is an El Al thing?

Because otherwise, I change my seats online. Sometimes change it during online check-in. Sometimes I go to that flight seat website that shows the good seats, and has reviews from passengers.

For example, “The airflow nozzle on 32B on Airbus Blah Blah Blah doesn’t close up; cold air was turning me into an icicle the whole flight!!” (Passenger Doe 01.30.2017)

    or

“People kept crowding around me in aisle seat 38F, while waiting for the restroom. Don’t take this seat! It’s in a high traffic area, the lane is more narrow at this part of the plane, and even the flight attendant cart will disturb you.” (Passenger Doe Jr. 04.14.2015)

    TWO MORE MUSTS, please:

-Safe (high ratings according to all those crash tests)

-Good MPG (one of the top reasons why I want a newer car)

My current MPG is 19ish city, and 25ish hwy. Pretty much any car gets better than that today, but I still want something good in today’s times (please G-d).

Thanks LU and Meno for the feedback… just meant that the separate section on the bus, for women, is halachically-based.

I meant the literal back of bus because that section is away from men’s line of vision. Which makes sense in terms of traveling and the seats facing forward. Yet I see how that sentence was very charged, and that’s my bad in constructing it so cliche.

I know someone who works for El Al. I want to ask her if they are trained on how to ask customers to change seats due to religious reasons [didn’t say “issues” this time :)].
