CTLAWYER proved me even more right! Latkes can go with milchig or fleishig… so yay… extra points for applesauce 🙂

Interestingly… I recently read that the first latkes were made from cheese… so I guess Chanukah dinners were dairy (assuming that latkes were eaten at night)

Thank you all! Okay so I’ll get two racks 🙂

Right now there are no racks. Just a dish towel (which is questionable).

The kitchen counter space is limited, so I ordered one of those double decker/foldable v-shape racks.

    Thanks everyone!!! 🌷🙂💖

I called my mom and Whatsapped videocalled her.

You’re right that I’m blessing that my mom is here in this world. Also, it was super amazing to think about how I have a strong relationship with my mom (never even considered that until reading your comment… so thank you 🙂), baruch Hashem.

My mom tells me that it’s life that people don’t live forever.

Random: But last week I told my primary care doctor that I wish no one would ever die. She said that if no one died then the world would be even more overcrowded, AND cave
men would still be around. Lol. The cavemen comment made me laugh. — I don’t think that my doctor’s viewpoint makes sense on a Jewish level. However, it helped to think about the reality of a world where people keep being born and no one dies. Every home would need to turn into a skyscraper or something, so we can have enough housing.

Okay thanks again for your empathy!!! Really really really appreciate your comments ❤❤❤

    All Kosher:
    The Pickle Guys
    Two Guys Kosher Grill
    Kosher Dudes
    The Hummus Guy
    The Cheese Guy*

*Offers a selection of OU-D Chalav Yisroel cheeses

…. Do you think that The Halal Guys is an original restaurant name, and do you think that nationwide eatery establishment and restaurant name trends had no influence on the company’s naming? Five Guys. The Pizza Guys. Pizza Guys. The Bread Guy Bakery. The Cupcake Lady. Pho Guys. Soup Guy Plus. The Original Soupman. Wise Guys Pizzeria… etc.

All of these Guy, Guy-derivative, and like-genre-sounding names were selected, hopefully and one can expect, because the company’s decision-maker(s) cared enough to create a brand name that was predicted to at least have a good chance of attracting their targeted audiences into spending significant dollars in their food service establishments.

Avram in MD: Thank you so much! 🙂

Glad that your kids know! Yesterday, after seeing my second degree burn, my pharmacist said that even she didn’t know that ice could burn so deeply. She said that she knew that ice was supposed to be applied at intervals of about 20min off and on, but did not know the consequences of leaving it on longer.

    Thanks

mentsch1: At least an hour or so. I stuck freezer pops in a sock and wrapped another sock around my shin to keep them in place on my lower leg. After 10-15min or so, I swapped the more-melted freezer pops with new solid ones.

It didn’t feel pleasant to have the ice on my skin, but I attributed the discomfort to having fallen down on the tile floor, not to my skin burning.

Ice burns! It’s official; I got second degree burns by applying ice to a bruise.

How come even major websites that give info about burns don’t mention ice or freezing conditions being a cause of burns, in addition to thermal, chemical, and electrical means?

Do your kids know the dangers of applying ice directly to their skin?

    Thank you

There are mailboxes that cost $10k? And more!?

Crazy.. hard to imagine a mailbox costing more than $500-1,000 tops. I’d believe that someone out there would spend $500-1,000 on some handmade wood-carved, and/or painted mailbox.

    But, are you serious?

in reply to: How important is it to you to have a nice mailbox? #1553426

I live in a development where our mailboxes are banked outside one of the floors in my building. My mailbox is one brass-looking compartment of around a dozen. I have no options.

When I did have my own mailbox, I wondered about getting a fancier one. However, sometimes the mailbox takes away from the house. Also, those things get hit by cars sometimes. Maybe one with more presence would be more visible, and less likely to be knocked down.

Anyway, to answer your question, to me, a nice mailbox is a practical mailbox. So, having a nice mailbox is very important to me, but not in the way that you are implying.

I don’t know. Maybe this is a case of the grass is greener on the other side. What if your neighbor loathed his or her mailbox, but was forced into purchasing it just for show?

Maybe the reason why your neighbor has a nice mailbox won’t make you question yours any less, but yea, are there not more pressing things to spend $10k+ on?

Okay honestly we don’t know all of the facts. Her son could have been abusive and the senior home was the last straw. She could have been delusional. Who knows. It could have been self-defense, and in that case, it would be more accurate to say that, Not all older ladies are helpless.

Baruch Hashem, I’ve had the pleasure of devouring more than my share rugelach already in my lifetime! 🙂

… This thread happened because as I was looking through mouth-watering rugelach recipes yesterday, I thought of all the people out there in the world who have never eaten a rugelach, and likely never will. Isn’t that interesting? That we can know of a food so delicious, and yet there is someone out there who has never even heard of it, let alone seen it?

Of course, of course, just because I find rugelach amazing doesn’t mean that anyone who has never had one will also find the dessert scrumptious. G-d forbid, someone might find the taste of rugelach appalling, even.

Furthermore, there are surely treats that I have never heard of, let alone seen, or sniffed, that others in the world might be devouring at this minute, pitying those, like me, and maybe like you, who will never know what it’s like to enjoy the taste of said treat.

    Anyway… all is good, B”H 🙂

Do you ever wonder about this kind of stuff?

Thank you. I just parked in front of another kosher market. I think that this one has more traffic. Anyway, I’ll see if they have the same brand with expiration dates.

If not, then good idea, I can ask when the shipment arrived.

… fyi, I also thought schug lasts forever but it doesn’t. Even the other brand was dated to expire next month. Slso, the homemade one looks more like a salsa chutney, containing garlic and onions.

You can get botulism from garlic and oil mixtures, can’t you? Back in the day, I took a certification course and exam in food service management. The class was a great wake up call in terms of being careful and responsible with food handling.

    Okay… going in…

Wish me luck! Thank you 🙂

    Do you mean dry flour?

Because eating plain dry flour can be dangerous.

You can choke by eating plain flour, G-d forbid. It can stuck to your esophagus mid-swallow.

When wet, flour can double as glue if you make a paste (hence the origin of the word “gluten”)

Maybe all of the posters with symbols next to their names (DY, RY, coffee addict…) are really Joseph and the symbol is the Mod’s Code for alerting us.

Some posters without symbols may still be Joseph, but at least we have a heads up for these commonly posting posters.

This is my current theory based on the current posters who have symbols next to their names, as mentioned previously. If symbols appear on more posters names or are removed from some or all posters names, then such changes may alter or nullify my theory.

    Thank you 🙂
