Blubluh: Thank you! ☺ When was the community-wide Bris Milah event? After the 40 years?

I didn’t know about them not doing a bris milah. It doesn’t have anything to do with Hashem wanting to *officially* give them the Torah officially first?

    Thank you

Looks like I was wrong WTP!

Wow. I Googled it but didn’t do a good enough job because it looks like he wasn’t as far as I know. He was supposedly good for Russian Jewry, or something.

Sorry! Well, there goes my rhyme.

Boris Yeltsin was a Jew, may his memory be a blessing.

Dunno if he had an engagement party but he had a communist one.

Maybe the boar is a sign that it is better to have a vort πŸŽ‰ than a bort 🚹 (acronym for Boris Yeltsin and sounds like boar). But if you’re Boris Yeltsin’s mom then it is better to have both πŸšΉπŸŽ‰.

There’s a difference between let’s say a young lady wearing pink and white (just made that up and both colors may be easier to see on a rainy day outside) using one in a crowded place where everyone else is using a masking dark umbrella and a person/maybe-a-guy dressed from head to toe, or something dark and covered-looking, who doesn’t seem to be in a crowd but rather just standing waiting for the bus.

    Ahhhh… kay thank you Mod-29!

Hmm… Question please: Are books by rebbetzins not sifrei kodesh? What are sifrei kodesh? Beyond books by rabbonim?

Is a sfrei kodesh more like universally recognized holy texts such as the Shulchan Aruch?

I get it and I’m sorry that you feel ashamed of yourself. You’re a wonderful person and Hashem made you YOU to fulfill a very special mission that only YOU can accomplish.

I have questioned myself at times when someone was offended for something that I also did not believe was offensive. And honestly, it really got to me. I started doubting myself, adapting my words so that I dare not offend anyone, and still there were times that someone got offended. Where did I go wrong? I cannot be myself and I cannot be someone else!

Then I spent some time away. Really thinking about whether or not I belonged. Whether or not I had something to contribute. I realized that sometimes someone else’s offense has nothing to do with me. At least, I am okay. I was okay and will be okay. It still hurts. But maybe instead of taking it personally, I can just appreciate the person because I know that this speaks of what the other person is going through.

Plus, I am not perfect. Maybe I too take offense at times when someone else did not mean to be offensive. And I can be more forgiving. And learn to think of the best intentions in each person, as long as I ensure my own health in the process.

The reason why I am sharing this with you is because I want you to know that you are not alone. Hashem will guide you. And please remember that you are here because the world needs you. Just as the world needs those that get offended. It may not make sense.

And anyway, did you see that seagull? Maybe the dropping of that fish back into the ocean was a sign. Sometimes it feels like we are in the jaws of death. Suddenly taken out from our entire universe. We cannot survive without that water. Yet some terror swoops in and who am I? Am I a fish? Why am I in the air? This hurts! A lot! And then bamm. Back into the sea! Let yourself feel proud. And come back and see that you are you for a very special reason.

    Thank you πŸ™‚

LU already told us that she teaches at a very frum women’s seminary in Jerusalem.

Are there no absolutely no frum books that women write about halachic topics?

Doesn’t Rebbetzin Esther Jungreis, a”h, of blessed memory have books published that talk about practical halacha? For example, *Torah for Your Table* published by Artscroll

Thank you and for the record, I’m not a pro at the details of lashon hara… but I’m pretty sure that your insinuation that LU’s comment speaks of some open orthodoxy in the CR is pretty lashon-hara-ing.

A family member made liver in chopped pieces, so until today that’s what I thought that’s what people refer to when they say “chopped liver.” I don’t think we had chopped liver ever growing up.

For the record, LU was addressing the poster that I call “me” and you call lightbrite or LB or etc.

As the poster on the receiving end of LU’s information, from what I have gathered and absorbed from LU, note that I did not say “know,” all I heard was someone telling me that I may be okay and if it was what she gathers that it is then that is okay and none of this was any official psak. Of course she doesn’t have all of the details. No one here does. She was giving me the information that I can take with me to ask my LOR. That’s how I took it. Not as a literal command that no rabbinical counsel is needed. And it is rough to read a lot of posts addressed to LU, especially because it makes me think of Rabbi Akiva’s brilliant students who argued with one another and there must be a better way.

    Thank you!

BoysWork: You said, “when I walk into the supermarket or walmart and see people marching around in hats, I just don’t get it. Especially when its hot outside.”

Maybe think about this… Sometimes hats stay on someone’s head better than a kippa. Especially for someone who may have thinning hair. Even if it is hot outside, some men may feel more secure that their head is covered because they are wearing a hat. It’s not going to slide off or fall off.

    That’s one practical possibility.

Thank you everyone!!! … So quick update please. I heard back from the person and all is good. Thank G-d!!!!

I was worried that it was lashon hara after skimming through another thread and I don’t know, sometimes when I open up to someone about something, especially like in the case that I asked about here, there is this anxiety and fear because I only want to say good things about every single person. At the same time, I was discussing a series of experiences that were less than pleasant with someone and asked for advice on how to read this person especially since when I spoke to rabbonim they did not know those details. If they did know those details, then said rabbonim may have given me different advice. Then again, if everything happened as it did, what was the message from Hashem?

Okay so I ended up saying more than I expected right here. It may still be super vague. Anyway. I confided in someone who knew the parties and this person actually heard enough to guide me. For a really really really long time I wanted to talk about this but was afraid that it was lashon hara.

Recently though something came up and I realized that by not talking about it with someone close to the rabbonim, I blocked myself from really getting over it. Or I don’t know.

I do know that I am blessed and very grateful.

Thanks everyone here and IRL πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Is it worth it to get slow cooker just for Shabbos?

Then again maybe getting one just got Shabbos will show me how awesome they are and then I will end up using it more often and it will be wonderful?

It just seems like it would take up a lot of counter space, and my cabinet storage is prob not an option.

Can you make chulent in a veggie streamer rice cooker? It turns the cooker part off after the liquid is dried up and then keeps the food warm all Shabbos. Though if the food is thicker soupy like chulent it may just burn at the bottom, and then turn off automatically while the food is still liquidy.

Also how do you standardize pens? Pencils must be #2 lead. Maybe the thickness. Thicker pencils for small hands. Pens may still use those grippy block things but anyway.

There are fountain pens and ballpoint pens. Are you using inexpensive ballpoints that clot in weird places? Nicer ballpoints?

Fountain pens that run all over the place? Getting pen marked smeared on your page and the side of your writing hand?

Does each teacher announce which pen to use? Can you bring a pen that you got for free from the bank?

That’s a benefit for anyone who calls his or her parent by another less common name like Mom or Dad in another language.

It is so much easier to call out Ema in America than in Israel. Then again supposedly moms (and dads) know their kid’s voice for sure. Even screams. Still it gets overwhelming having to compete with Emas in Israel.

Maybe it is harder when you live in a community where everyone speaks the other language, even though it’s technically a foreign language.

I love listening to longer shiurs on TorahAnytime! The shorter ones are about a halacha, a brief look at the parsha, a moment of inspiration, and other good stuff.

The longer ones let me settle in and absorb the meaning. Plus there is more time to go into depth.

    So yay for longer.

Granted short shiurs or speeches have their occasions too.
