Irma!
LightbriteParticipantJust today, like two hours ago, I was thinking the same exact question!
There was a sign at the pharmacy stating that this month’s flavor special was $1.99. For $1.99, you can flavor your medication with their grape flavored syrup.
When I was a kid, I sometimes liked grape soda. “Sometimes” because too much inverted the taste, somehow.
September 5, 2017 7:34 pm at 7:34 pm in reply to: Is It Just Me, Or Are Frum Homes Becoming ‘Colder’ And More Like Offices? #1356028LightbriteParticipantThere is a misconception here, Spreadthetruth, that you’d appreciate, given your desire for truth – and it’s this – thinking and questioning does not mean worrying.
In fact, often asking questions is out of curiosity, where the mind is actively engaging in understanding the world.
So unless you are worrying here, it’s safe to honestly say that I have no clue what you’re talking about… and maybe you simply do not think the same way as the OP, but know that you do not understand, for then you won’t fall into a place of judging one’s thoughts.
Thank you and keep spreading true truth π
LightbriteParticipantGadolhadorah: I think that’s what I mean. Thank you.
I didn’t realize that in Israel, some Jews currently don’t use any electricity on Shabbos because Jews work at the power plant.
So does that mean they turn off all of their breakers? And their refrigerators don’t run either?
Thank you
LightbriteParticipantR4nd0m3x: Back when August 31st 2017 existed in the present moment, Irma could have approached the US as a Tropical Storm, or it could have dissipated completely before reaching a Hurricane Status high enough for its title to be used in the thread title.
If you would like, you are welcome to create a thread titled, “Hurricane Irma.”
Thank you for visiting A,B,T Motors, where your car comes first!
LightbriteParticipantYes. Very true about the infectious diseases wiping out Native Americans.
Another rebuke…
When I learned about Native Americans, we were taught that they saw the sail boats headed for their land but since they had never before seen such ships (and it was beyond their comprehension to expect humans traveling towards them), they believed the ships to be sea creatures.
For weeks and possibly longer, Native Americans watched the ships, or sea creatures, approach land. —This information goes against the claim that Native Americans didn’t live on the coast.
LightbriteParticipantGranted it’s possible that some lived on the coast and others didn’t. Some lived near the coast perhaps, and maybe only seasonally.
It doesn’t have to be one way or another. Various opinionsay be accurate. Claiming all Native Americans as something is a great generalization.
Thank you
LightbriteParticipantThat’s ridiculous RebYidd23. Are you implying that there’s something inherently damaging about anyone having his or her pants on fire?
Asbestos deserves to be banned from buildings and our lives because the material hurts so many children in Spelling Bees.
LightbriteParticipantYays!!! Thanks for the encouraging spirit Daddy’s Girl πππππππβ€πππβΊβΊβΊπ£π£π£π¦π¦π¦π¦πΆπΆπΆπ©π©π©ππππππππππππππΌπΌπΌπΊπΊπΊπ»π»π»
LightbriteParticipantSo then densely traffic-front homes nesting before interstates ought to be marketed to people who find the noise of cars crashing tranquil… like soccer dads and florists.
LightbriteParticipantAt shul, my rabbi publicly praises individual community members who helped set up an event, cooked the food, organized the table arrangements, and etc.
I know for a fact that others were involved in the planning and implementation of this event. My rabbi did not mention every single person’s name.
Are you saying that my rabbi was wrong too?
LightbriteParticipantA zipline for you, or for you + your vehicle?
LightbriteParticipantWhoa whoa now… RebYidd23 took the crown fair and circle.
There is no fighting in this thread. Swords are not permitted on this property. All weapons, in fact, even butter swords are banned from this thread.
Now, Daddy’s Girl, it’s time to congratulate RebYidd23 on her achievements! π
For remember, does not grow brighter by burning out someone’s light.
That said and settled… welcome Daddy’s Girl π
We’re all friends here! Yays π
LightbriteParticipantIt’s not okay to stand next to two people because three’s a crowd.

LightbriteParticipantNechomah π and WinniethePooh π are also super helpful and you’re blessed if they pop up to chime in on threads.
Health! Comes in with exclamation marks that will grow on you, to the point that you appreciate the enthusiasm βΊ

RebYidd23 has a fabulous mind and sense of humor β€
It’s really hard to talk about people without feeling like everyone else deserves mention… because you all do! βΊβΊβΊ
But to answer your question about steering clear… it’s personalities and what you mesh with.
Also, I find that I avoid certain threads, rather than people.
For example, presidential politics… I pulled out quickly and Baruch Hashem haven’t looked back!
If a thread bugs you, you don’t have to respond.
Okay the end and Shavua tov βΊβΊβΊ

Overworked Mom: ABOUT LU π
LU is an amazing support and kli filled with good and brachot. She is very well-read, and is a go-to if you’re looking for someone to recommend wonderful Jewish books.
Also, LU is extremely resourceful with contacts in the US and Israel, and can often assist you in reaching out to someone to help you locally, if need be, by providing direction on who to contact specifically π
LightbriteParticipant“Junk is something you keep for years and need a week after throwing it away.”
September 3, 2017 8:30 am at 8:30 am in reply to: Family Traditions that are more widespread than you think #1353360LightbriteParticipantGrowing up, my mom taught me to always break an egg in a small glass Pyrex to check all over for blood spots, including peaking underneath the little dish. In the rare occasions when an egg had blood, the egg would be tossed out and I’d get a new one.
For anyone who is new here, fyi, I grew up in a less observant household. Later on in life, I noticed that many people [read less observant and non-Jewish] just break their eggs into the pan, bowl, or whatever dish they need to use it for, in cases where they don’t need to break one egg at a time exclusively to beat or whatever [gosh doesn’t it sound violent in this context?].
It turned out that my mom taught me halacha, something her mother taught her, and I found that out many many years later when I learned more about kashrut. I love my mom. Pretty cool π
Thanks!
LightbriteParticipantThe tree gives you oxygen to breathe.
How do you know that you’d still be alive to hate a tree had it not been for this tree that Hashem put in your life?
Can you hire roosters and monkeys to live loudly in the branches that shade your garden?
Because maybe your neighbor would subsequently opt for cutting down those branches to build them a house, with sound proofing, on the other side of said neighbor’s property?
LightbriteParticipantWhoa!!! According to an online magazine that experimented on this, horizontal stripes don’t make one look wider. They may actually make one look thinner and/or taller! What?
And vertical stripes actually are unflattering, making one appear wider.
Amazing!!! YAY MODS!!
Thank you for letting me create this thread Mod π
Now thanks to your YWN platform, I can explore horizontal striped patterns π
LightbriteParticipantOmgosh ilovetohock!!!
Thank YOU π
So often I write cards on Friday during the daytime, to mail before Shabbos, and feel SOOOOOOooOOo self-conscious because I worry that someone will think that I wrote it on Shabbos (because I date the cards).
I wonder if I need to post or pre-date them. I’ve pre-dated cards a few times, which was nice, so maybe I can make that a habit.
Staying tuned to your thread to see what other posters have to say π
LightbriteParticipantYay!! That’s true: Joseph is Joseph π
Another fyi, post times are the time that the Mod approved your post (not the time that you submitted the post, which used to be this way).
For a while, Mods had a siesta from 7-10pm. I don’t know if that’s still their naptime (guessing that they are bust IRL then).
The good news here is that the Mods bring us yummy stuffed cabbage when they return. It’s magical stuffed cabbage, turning fleishig when you’re fleishig, and milchig if you’re milchig, and parev if you want ~ Mods are very talented π
LightbriteParticipantDid you know that prisoners’ uniforms had black horizontal stripes to symbolize them being behind bars?
The horizontal stripes made them stand our if they escaped.
Interesting citation: Interweave, a yarn and crochet website.
… Anyway, what does that mean for horizontal-stripe wearing people?
LightbriteParticipantWelcome Overworked Mom π
Glad that you joined us! Hopefully you’ll enjoy your time here and learn a lot of good stuff π
Umm… we all have our nuances, and at the end of the day, I like that about the CR.
Also, it may be considered lashon hara to answer your OP.
… anyway… again, Welcome π
LightbriteParticipantThanks RebYidd23 π
So I’m looking at 16GB. Hmm… I’ve heard of hybrids. SSD’s are expensive! I might end up not getting the SSD.
Do you have anymore efficient/faster, but more expensive.
LightbriteParticipantakuperma: That’s so COOL! Wow. I had no clue that Native Americans preferred to live inland (and did).
Oh yea, you just reminded me… even when Irma happens in the ocean, it affects humans on ships, including some current cruises.
I guess Europeans preferred the coasts because of trade routes, for one thing. Traveling wasn’t too easy back then too. Hmm.
Thanks for the lesson π
LightbriteParticipantYes, why yes I did notice the great ahavas Yisroel between Chabad and Breslov chassidim!
Baruch Hashem we can appreciate and cherish each other. π
LightbriteParticipantEven if their reporters were in Israel, they’d still have to learn about what’s going on in New York. Would they being contacting non-Jewish informants and/or authorities for insider information?
LightbriteParticipantIs this an annual magazine? Looks like the most recent one is from April 2017.
LightbriteParticipantGreat (sarcasm)… if you’re Country Yossi, that means that you can track us
LightbriteParticipantOmgosh, whoa Joseph… I never thought of that!!!
Are you serious about alluding that you and Country Yossi are one of the same?
Mods… is he joking? (thank you)
LightbriteParticipantDikDukDuck: Thank you for sharing your perspective on 15.6β³ 16:9 models! π
Thank you because I didn’t even realize that there are different types of 15″ laptop sizes.
So good to know!
Thank you again π
LightbriteParticipantaregee: Thank you for mentioning the other points to consider π
Omgosh… so cool that you talked about SSD. I just learned about it last week. The person at the electronics store said that it’s better than AMD(?), but generally more expensive.
Yes, I may have to make some sacrifices to afford a 17″ but I def cannot skimp on the major basics!
Thank you π
LightbriteParticipanthuju: Lol!!! So funny π
—
Yea, I first learned about Irma through this thread. B’esrat Hashem she will fizzle away far out in ocean.LightbriteParticipantCTLAWYER: Thank you π
Yes I will be using it in lieu of a desktop. I’m hesitant to even think of bringing this electronic device, that will hold confidential materials, into a public arena. Baruch Hashem, I have a less expensive laptop to take to work.
It’s interesting that lawyers use laptops in the office. Sometimes I miss having a desktop, though not enough to purchase one.
Thank you again π
LightbriteParticipantlowerourtuition11210: You are right π
It’s actually a relief to know that I’m not the only one who wouldn’t want to lug the 17in-er around. My laptop case would be too small for it; it fits a 15in laptop and that size is bulky enough.
Thank you π
LightbriteParticipantyitzyk: Thank you for talking about the benefits of the 17in screen size! π
At the store last week, I kept thinking about how you said that my eyes weren’t getting younger and I’d be grateful for going larger. It’s so true! B’esrat Hashem this laptop will be with me for a very very long and happy time. So I’m buying something for my future self too π
Thank you π
LightbriteParticipantAvram in MD: Thank you so much for your comparison of the 15″ vs 17″ π
Wow, it’s such a relief to know that even guys aren’t fans of carrying around a 17″ laptop!
And… thank you for provoking me to consider whether or not I would carry the laptop room to room. It’s a blessing that my internet is strongest in one room, because it’s otherwise inconvenient to travel indoors with my laptop.
Thank you π
LightbriteParticipantThanks everyone for sharing your experiences with both sizes of laptops, and mentioning the pros and cons of each type!!! Much appreciated π
The laptop would stay mostly at home. After seeing the 15.6in next to the 17.3in, I’m opting for the larger display – 17.3in.
LightbriteParticipantJoseph: Excellent point! π
Thank you for bringing it up!
To understand my needs and prospective usage, I will be using Microsoft Office 2016 frequently, and maybe videos (right now that’s learning how to use PowerPoint 2016 via YouTube videos – please wish me mazal here because I need it!). I may be editing photos and videos for work, promotional materials.
And the rest… who knows?! But I want to be prepared.
Because 17.3in laptops are more expensive, I am willing to opt-out of touchscreen features.
I want a large storage capacity – 2TB.
And faster processing – as much as I can afford. Def less than $1k total – unless you would like to donate to my cause, as I work on building parnassah π
Thank you again!
LightbriteParticipantI still don’t understand the difference between a Member and a Participant.
Do you know how to differentiate between the two species of posters?
Thank you π
LightbriteParticipantAww RebYidd23, if you were a pancake, you’d totally be any flavor that you’d want to be… with major super duper PRETTY shiny SPRINKLES on TOP π
LightbriteParticipantUgh… sorry for my horrible grammar here…
Can’t anyone claim that his or her property… is what I meant to write.
Thanks and Cheerios π
LightbriteParticipantYay so it’s settled… then I too can claim that my backyard is a million dollar view.
Sometimes I can hear raccoons playing chess at night. During the day, mockingbirds play checkers. Toads play Go Fish.
LightbriteParticipantI googled it and U+1F644 is RebYidd23’s post… a face with it’s eyes rolling
LightbriteParticipantOoops sorry… grammar mistake, twice today and it’s only 1am something…
Face rolling his or her eyes π
Wait… is a face a person?
September 1, 2017 12:50 am at 12:50 am in reply to: sub-titles and privacy !SAY NO TO SUB-TITLES #1352744LightbriteParticipantWow!!! So novel! First time I’ve heard a poster object to having a subtitle.
Thanks for sharing RebYidd23… what if there was an underground mob of anti-subtitlers all this time?
What if they had a political action committee that paid YWN in chocolate gelt to remove subtitles?
What if we all imagined subtitles? What if….
LightbriteParticipantYes I meant toivel! Thank you π
