RebYidd23, may Hashem help me rescue an insect in need, and may Hashem remind me to think of your when I b’esrat Hashem succeed in His mission to save a life.

PLEASE HASHEM… have mercy on me, when it comes to the insects that I prefer to safely avoid and may you please have us live separately ever after, happily. Thank you! And please surround RebYidd23’s bug killing desires with fake bugs. Thank you.

Shana tova and metukah, but the kind of sweetness that does not attract insects, or cavities.

Does changing shuls have to be one of those, *WHAM, BAM, & GOODBYE* kind of deals?

Maybe it’s just me, but why can’t you taper off of one shul? Perhaps you already tapered off and are spending more time at another shul.

Sometimes not saying anything leaves it open for you to also go back, once in a while, if you want. Maybe you want to stop by and shake the Lulav and Etrog there, just to wish the rabbi and community a chag samayach too.

It doesn’t have to be all or nothing, you know? When it comes to what to say, you can make it simple and vague. You had other things going on at this shul. You love both places, but clearly you need to be someplace else now. People, especially a rabbi that you were close to, ought to understand and wish you the best πŸ™‚

Reminds me of the kid being bullied at school. Which kid? The kid that eventually brings a gun (G-d forbid) and suddenly everyone has to listen because things just so serious.

I’m confused. We live in America, not North Korea. In the Holocaust, the Nazis invaded the actual countries where Jews lived, targeting Jews in their proximity and spreading out.

By that account, what if we Americans moved to another country, and we were closer to North Korea? Wouldn’t that help North Koreans in doing whatever they want to do?

But no Lightbrite, I just mean to get out of the US before chas v’shalom our lives are in danger. Well, where would you want to go? Is Europe any safer? Is that practical?

With all the trash and bottles in the world, we can just make a Jewish island grounded in recyclables. They’ve already made a recyclable island somewhere.

Though shipping food would be an expense, and Amazon would probably charge extra shipping for everything too. So to save on postage, let’s stay in tge USA, and ride it out.

Based on what I’ve understood thus far, if you had meat from the same cow…

and could choose eating a raw steak, or some freshly chopped meat (in the first seconds or minutes after grinding, as in CTLAWYER’s home)….

you’d be better off eating the steak or fresh homemade chopped meat than store-bought chopped meat…

because part of the danger comes with bacteria growing on meat that’s been exposed to oxygen and pathogens… (citation internet articles and Wiki)

Wondering… Did you ever inform your uncle about the risks of eating raw chopped meat?

Or would bringing up the dangers here be considered condescending, and especially since the information would be coming from his nephew?

… also the quantity of infected meat, or proportion of it to the human ingesting it and that human’s health and age, one eats can affect whether or does or does not register ill effects.

Popa, are you talking about evolution?

Even if they did, that doesn’t negate the current health risks associated with eating raw meat. Landscapes changed. Animals changed. Farming was invented. Animal agricultural. Breeding. Domestication. Waste waters. Sanitation. Backyards. Transportation. Housing. Genetic adaptations… all come into play and may affect whether or not a meat is contaminated, and whether or not one will be directly and/or indirectly adversely affected by its consumption.

CTLAWYER: You don’t mind the health risks? Did you let your children, when they were young, eat raw chopped meat?

Do you eat it uncooked chopped meat because you’re tasting it to be sure that it’s the right mixture of flavors too?

Meno: To answer your question, my friend said that she doesn’t do it with steak “because chopped meat undergoes processing,” so “it’s safe.”

Her answer still left me wondering.

    ——

Forget E. coli and Salmonella risks, people can get parasites from eating raw meat too.

Just from looking up Steak Tartare on Wikipedia, this lovely risk came up:

“Parasites [from consuming infected Steak Tartare]

“Toxoplasma gondii is a parasite that may be found in raw or undercooked meat.[11] Cultural differences in raw meat consumption are thought to be a cause of regional variation in the prevalence of toxoplasma infection (ranging from around 55% in France down to 10% in the United Kingdom).[12]

Due to the risk of congenital toxoplasmosis in the fetus, pregnant women are advised not to eat raw meat.[13] Latent toxoplasmosis in adults, though not as harmful as congenital toxoplasmosis, has been associated with psychological effects[14] and lower IQ[15] in some studies.” (Wiki on Steak Tartare)

My friend doesn’t care what the USDA says. Personally, I wouldn’t eat raw beef or advise anyone to eat it.

The thing is that in her family, eating raw meat while taste-testing was normal, kind of like how people used to eat raw cake batter (but now we’re advised against it because of the risks from eating raw eggs)… granted, I think people generally eat raw cake or brownie batter and cookie dough because it’s delicious… rather than to necessarily taste for what’s missing.

Maybe because he is better able to focus in his local shul.

He may have a closer relationship with the rav at his shul, or have more one-on-one attention.

    He may have less distractions.

The local shul may be closer to home and more conducive to the other parts of his life.

He may feel more comfortable at his local shul, which may come with less pressure than learning at his yeshiva.

    Many reasons…

I also err on the side of caution and generally would advise against dealing with Craigslist…

Against Craigslist… especially when you want to see your belongings again, want to ensure your personal protection, and can expect to be giving the storage facility personal information such as your name, address, and possibly credit card data.
