What happened to my posts? So confused. Yes snow has a smell. If you can taste it, then you can smell it.

    Think snow cones.

    1. I walk into puddles with rain boots. I do not jump into them because then my clothes, skin, face, and etc would get muddy, let alone my boots. I like to keep my rain boots clean, since I’ll soon be wearing them into my home.

    2. A few months ago, when I was wearing my rain boots at my local wholesale club, a lady came up and asked me, “Do your feet get wet in those?”

    “No,” I said.

“Because I got rainboots but water got in them.”.

“That’s not normal. They are rainboots and water shouldn’t get into them. After a while, they can wear down. I’ve gone through many pairs because eventually they wear out. You’re talking about new boots?”

    “Yes.”

… and then I recommended a couple of brands ..

Which leads us to another answer for you….

Just because someone is wearing rainboots does not mean that one’s feet won’t get wet.

I’ve actually worn holey rainboots on rainy days, and avoided puddles in said boots because they were no longer waterproof.

Health! Omgosh really? My dentist gave me general anesthesia!

I’m not middle aged. Is it a new thing? Doesn’t it cost way way more to do general anesthesia too? Maybe it’s a health insurance and anesthesiologist thing happening today?

Goldilocks: Does anyone have any advice to offer?

    “Is this a difficult procedure?”
For your dentist or for you? Recovery is a piece of cake. Well, later you’ll have cake.

    “How common are complications?”
I don’t know. At my high school, getting wisdom teeth removed was a rite of passage. Classmates came in a day or two later with chipmunk cheeks. By the next week, they looked normal again. I got mine removed too, and all that I remember is being in the office, waking up (maybe), and having puffy cheeks for a few days. Maybe I had to be careful about my food consumption. It was over before I knew it.

“How many days of work should I expect to miss? Is it true that I won’t be able to eat solid food the next day? What type of anesthesia is recommended?”
Agree that these are dentists to ask your dentist, or whatever medical practitioner it is that will be performing your procedure.

I got general anesthesia, and back in my day, that was the norm.

    B’Hatzlacha 🙂

You just sealed-in my shoe solution! Last year I brought colorful sneakers to walk around in… I didn’t realize it’d be that cold that I wouldn’t want to wear sandals. The colorful shoes looked kind of funny in my pics.

You just pinpointed so much with your description of Jerusalem and Israel cold vs. NYC cold!

Yes you’re right; it’s the buildings that keep temps feeling warmer outdoors and indoors. In Jerusalem last year, I was a popsicle walking down the pretty vacant street towards the lightrail. And once we got to the house, it was still freezing. I had to wear sandals in the house 24/7. It was a first floor concrete home, with ice cube tile flooring.

So yes, I’m guessing it’ll be a different kind of cold.

The little I know: See this confuses me because Yidden have smuggled klai kodesh, kosher food, and pertinent holiday assortments into certain countries, just this year, to celebrate the chagim.

News outlets make it come across as them being heroes with no choice.

SL: I did look it up. I don’t remember how I feel in 40-50 degree weather.

I get cold easily. At the same time, I remember when I lived in colder climate, there were cold days when wearing a warm coat was the worst. It’d get sunny outside, and after walking a lot, I’d have to lug around this heavy poofy furry rag with me.

Wondering if it’s more like a Jerusalem, where underestimated the cold, or like one of those autumn days up north where the cold is in-between.

I guess it is best to bring several options.

    Thanks

Last year, before I went to Israel, my family told me to bring a coat because it was cold. I reluctantly brought my warmest jacket/coat, purchased just for the trip.

And omgosh… in Jerusalem, it was freezing!!! I don’t remember what temperature that was though.

Does anyone know if NYC now-ish is colder than Jerusalem last Chanukah?

DovidBT… no one is saying that.

You know, I learned something really amazing growing up from a video game.

My sibling was playing a mystery spy video game where he had to figure out clues to get to get keys to move to the next room, and then the next level.

He was really good at it, and I used to just watch. Sometimes, I would play too.

One time, when he left the room, and put the game on pause, I wasn’t supposed to touch anything. But, I wanted to try. For days, he was stuck at some high level, trying to figure out how to get there key.

So, I was a novice and didn’t know the rules. After clicking on a bunch of objects or something, I just went to open the door, and rhe door opened! Just like that. No key.

My sibling came back to the room, astonished.

How did I find the key?!

Huh? I just walked to the door and pressed the button. That was it. I made it to the next level.

Lesson: Sometimes the door is open for us, but we may be so used to jumping through hoops that we don’t realize that we can just walk right in without a special key — just turn the knob, just like that.

There’s likely many more lessons that I learned from that game. Anyway, some video games help sharpen your mind. You learn how to work with your friends too. Granted, yes, there are other ways to learn such lessons.

But still, not all video games are violent.

Sadly, the games many kids play today are violent, though.

“What do pilots, soldiers and surgeons have in common?

Answer: They all work in professions where the cost of failure can be severe. And because of this, they are three professions that make heavy use of interactive simulations and what are known as “serious games”.

The situations they deal with are unpredictable so they can’t just use standard responses. As situations unfold they have to think quick, and do the right thing. That takes lots of practice, and lots of learning from failure in order to see what works and what does not.” (CIO dot com)

Wow Health, thank you…. I didn’t even consider skin cancer.

Not all melanin spots become malignant.

But maybe more melanin spots, and a body that’s reacting to the high heat and humidity as it would to UV rays would increase the risk of skin cancer, just as it would if it was more exposed to UV rays.

    Interesting.
