I’m sorry for not being clear; I did not mean to cause offense.

Of course I know that many people who were not wealthy had everything detroyed, and definitely needed and deserved the money they received from tzedaka.

That being said, it is impossible to deny the fact that the two communities which were hit the worst are widely known as being wealthy, and that a lot of tzedaka money was given to people who had no need. And please don’t quote me the thing about the hundred runners.

The Gemara in Bava Kama on 38a-38b shows that R’ Shmuel Bar Yehudah was quite sad when his daughter died.

    On the other hand, the way Ulah comforted him was by saying “?? ???? ??? ?????? ??? ???? ???? ??? ??? ?? ??? ??? ???? ???? ???” and Rashi says ??? ?? ??? ?? ?????. ???? ??? ?? ??? ??? ???? ?????

gavra – I agree. Maybe we can add that believing that one race is inherently superior (in terms of intellect/accomplishments etc.) to another race may not be a problem, but that does NOT mean to treat them with any less respect.

Just as you know that mentally retarded people are intellectually inferior to non-retarded people, that obviously does not mean to treat them with any less respect.

And no, I’m not saying that blacks, or any other race, are retarded.

The Averiech lived in Israel, not the US

I know. I saw the comments on this website, which is mainly comprised of Americans. Where the story happened has nothing to do with what I said.

That’s not true at all. Insanity is used as a defense in a tiny minority of cases … Some do, but I think it’s far from all.

I know. I am aware that other excuses are given as well. I was using “all” as a figure of speech, meaning “a large, disproportionate number of”. I thought that was apparent.

    eclipse – Great line!

doesnt it say in some torah source that nothing is inherently bad?

Maybe, but don’t forget the pasuk in Parshas Noach, “Ki yeitzer lev ha’adam ra mine’urav” – for the heart of Man is evil from his youth.

The term “racist” first appeared in the English language in the 1930s.

If you are indeed a racist, who said that’s a bad thing? American media?

Historically, racism was not considered inherently bad according to basic moral code, judging from the thousands of years of socially-accepted racism.

The current Western world we live in condemns racism. They also promote gay rights.

I could probably make a similarly unfunny joke with any object.

A boy in shidduchim is like a hot pepper. First he’s washed off, then he’s chewed up, then he’s spit out!

A boy in shidduchim is like a mailbox. First he’s stuck in the ground, then he’s stuffed with papers and resumes, then he’s emptied out!

A boy in shidduchim is like a dog. First he’s cute, then he barks at everyone, then he’s put down!

I could do this all day.

I heard that he spoke at a bachur’s siyum on Shas, and he commented how nowadays when a bachur learns twenty blatt a zman second seder, he’s considered to have gone quickly. Ten blatt would be b’iyun, seven blatt is even more, five is even more, and a guy who did two blatt must be the best bachur in yeshiva! So a bachur who finished Shas…

They accept after Pesach and Sukkos; usually not for Elul Zman. For Winter Zman, no dating until Tu B’Shvat. For Summer Zman, no dating until Tisha B’Av (official end of zman).

If you’re dating a girl before the zman starts, you can submit her initials to the office and continue dating her.

If you break the freezer rules, the Roshei Yeshiva will not come to your wedding.

I’d just like to point out: I’ve heard people try to “prove” Breslev’s general worldview, namely that happiness is a core part of Judaism, by quoting the famous phrase “Mitzvah gedolah lihyos besimcha”. This is a quote from R’ Nachman himself. All you’re proving is that this is Breslev’s view, not Judaism’s in general.

Ivdu es Hashem b’simcha is a pasuk in Tehillim (100), which also has the pasuk (2) Ivdu es Hashem b’yirah.

For example – anyone who suggests that all browsers be uninstalled and app installation access password-protected, here’s a fun fact: All Google (among many other) apps have built-in browsers. That means that Google Voice, Google Earth, etc. can all get full access. Sometimes the access is as obscure as clicking a link buried deep in the EU agreement or license information. You would never know this in a million years, because you have no desire to find it.

writersoul – There would be absolutely nothing dangerous about a gun which is completely incapable of firing bullets.

The purpose of the comments was to point out that it is nearly impossible to completely prevent a child from gaining access to the Internet on a tablet. Where there’s a will there’s a way.

Maybe try to understand people’s comments before you pounce on them because they don’t fit with your world views.
