We do not open doors no matter what the day is to anyone without a letter. The collectors know the rules, and yes, there are too many scammers around. If they can’t prove they are legitimate, no latter

So, let’s assur any activity that might possibly, however remote, result in injury.

Golfer, it’s hard not to notice when 1.someone grabs an entire plate of Kishka for himself 2. When someone elbows you out of the way to get a chulent refill 3. When someone stands eating at the table and refuses to move etc.

Avram, boorish behavior is in the eye of the beholder. By your definition, a frum slumlord is committing an avaira by putting the lives of his tenants at risk ( bad wiring, no heat hot water etc)

If you want to talk about gluttony, go to an after davening kiddush or a wedding smorgasbord. People stuff their mouths like their is no tomorrow, pile food on their plates then throw out half because ultimately their eyes were far bigger than their stomach

LU and Joseph, exactly where did you both get Smicha? Joseph says it’s assured and LU says it’s an avaira, but “is not sure”. Please stop issuing psaks unless you can cite chapter and verse which posek says it is assur.

CT, even in your case, don’t the the public schools have to submit a budget request, with justification? Well, I would expect that all publicly funded private schools would also have to submit budget proposals, with justifications

There is a point people miss when calling for public funding of yeshivas. Outside of NYC, public school budgets are subject to scrutiny and must be approved by voters. The same would apply to a yeshiva that was publicly funded. Also, yeshiva parents are on school boards even their kids don’t attend. So, how do you keep non Jewish taxpayers off of taxpayer funded yeshivas?

I’m not debating the need for a hat and jacket. Just pointing out that the president justification a. rgument is not a valid one. However what no one has pointed out is that the jacket should be clean and pressed. We’ve all seen boys/teens come to shul with jackets over creased shirts and with wrinkled pants that need to be cleaned. Sort of defeats the reason for the hat and jacket

I don’t see the problem. Yawning is an involuntary, reflex action the body takes when someone is tired. Nothing wrong with it. People have been known to yawn during the drama. Since the purpose of Yawning is to draw in a large amount of air, closing your mouth does not help

The president/King argument is somewhat specious. Growing up in the 50’s, that was the justification for wearing a hat. That all changed when John F Kennedy went hatless at his 1961 inauguration and, overnight, hats went out of style. The same is happening with jackets, albeit a lot slower.

Health, are you sure you don’t teach in a progressive, liberal university? Someone disagrees with you so you issue personal insults. I’ve had two impacted wisdom teeth removed. On the first, I naively followed my dentists advice that he could do it ( he used your argument). However, this turned out not to be a routine extraction. Wisdom teeth are in the back of the jaw and this one had turned sideways and was deeply rooted. Four novacaine shots later and blood everywhere, he finally got the tooth out, leaving me with major trauma and a swollen face.

Four years later, same scenario with other lower jaw wisdom tooth. This time i went to an oral surgeon. With his extensive experience, he had the tooth out in minutes with minimal trauma and swelling

Actually, there is merit to it. Orthodoxy was much more flexible and open to changes prior to Haskala. What would the reaction be today if someone wanted to significantly modify the Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah davening? There would be an uproar. Yet that did happen without any problems. The kapitlach were composed between 700 and 1300; Kol Nidre could have been composed as early as 800 or as late as@100. Kabbalas Shabbos was added 500-600 years ago. With the emergence of Reform, all change was viewed as suspicious dangerous leading to more Record.

There currently is a serious outbreak in the New York area of norovirus. It is extremely contagious and spread through contact. A number of public schools have temporarily closed as up to 30% of the student body was sick. Several years ago there was a serious outbreak in a Rockland County yeshiva and ironically, hand washing was identified as one of the causes. How? The virus causes diarrhea and vomiting . Unfortunately in this yeshiva the same sink was used for washing for both the bathroom and making hamotzei. The virus, which can survive on a towel ( the yeshiva used cloth towels ) up to 48 hours, was spread every time a boy dried his hands

The positive: Trader Joe’s. 1. Many ( and unusual )kosher products. A number of the hashgacha symbols are unfamiliar but at the entrance they have a listing of what each symbol means, a contact name and phone number. B. Great customer service.Lines move quickly and they will quickly open additional registers get too long

The negative ( at any supermarket. You’re behind a customer with a fully loaded cart. You wait patiently. However, the customer apparently thought they were getting the goods for of time ringing up and bagging everything does the customer spend five more minutes rummaging through a pocketbook looking for a wallet

LU, actually what you said was that, with regards to vaccination , the benefits are only possibilities and the risks are only possibilities and that you have to weigh one against the other. LB, I don’t know how old you are but if you had any idea what life was like prior to vaccinations, your concerns of possible issue would disappear. I grew up in the 1950s and there was actual, not possible, terror of contracting polio. Every year tens of thousands of children came down with it, with survivors often crippled for life. Who can forget the images of kids being kept alive by an iron lung. When volunteers were sought in Pittsburgh ( where the vaccine was developed ) to test the new Salk vaccine, parents were so desperate that the lines ran for several blocks. Today, polio has been eradicated due to vaccination. Measles and smallpox were also killers
