well, child molestation was swept under the rug for decades. Serious action was taken until it was addressed publicly. And I’m not just talking about sexual molestation . The same rebbe who was punching,slapping and kicking 7 yr olds 25 years ago in my great nephew’s class, was doing it to 7 yr olds 40 years ago in my son in laws class ( same yeshiva and rosh yeshiva). It stopped only when my niece threatened to swear out a criminal complaint against the renbe for child abuse and assault and to file a civil lawsuit against both the yeshiva and the rosh yeshiva.
why are you calling them Jews? Although previous generations assimilated, these people were Christians. Many of them probably were unaware of their Jewish ancestry.

There could not have been too many siddurim around before the printing press was invented in the 15th century. They had to be hand copied, making them expensive and subject to errors. The Rhineland/Ashkenazi communities were small, but I can’t imagine every mispallel could afford his own siddur.

waiving a copay is not insurance fraud. besides, billing for a copay, but not pursuing debtors , is not illegal.
Because Medicaid patients don’t have copays ( well, there is an $3 Outpatient copay ) they tend to make appts for minor ailments ( ie 100 degree temp ) that other patients won’t. As a result they can crowd out patients with better paying insurance.Joseph and Uncle Ben

As I stated above, why shouldn’t an Ashkenazi Jew be able to eat kitniyos if it is an ingredient in a processed food certified not to contain chametz? Kitniyos are not chametz.Neville, i don’t disagree about rice. But, if a processed , boxed , product has a valid recognized Pesach Israeli hashgacha and happens to contain corn, why wouldn’t an Ashkenazi be able to eat it as there is no concern that it might be mixed with chametz?

Eating gebroks is NOT a custom, it’s the halacha. Non-gebroks is the minhag, and it’s relatively new. Its a Chassishe minhag, apparently started by Dov Ber of Mezrevitch around 1800.
