Imamom – Firstly, it is illegal to block someone’s driveway, however the owner of the driveway is legally allowed to park in front of his/her own driveway, therefore even if the driveway is not dug out, only the owner can park across it. Secondly, even if the above were not true, how do you know the owner wasn’t planning on clearing his driveway later that night? By parking overnight, you made that determination all on your own. VERY inconsiderate of you….. You’re lucky you weren’t towed.

I can understand why you would be “sickened” by people talking during chazoras hashatz, since that is indeed constructive, but if you are “sickened” by someone else”s level of kavanah, you really aren’t paying enough attention to yourself, and spending too much time watching other people…

I don’t know if cup-K is indeed Israel Mayer Steinberg, but I also heard a prominent Rov in flatbush publicly denounce rabbi steinberg as “Ma’achil treifos l’rabbim b’mayzid”

There is a store called Battaglia on Kings Highway and east 7th or 8th in Brooklyn that has very nice dress shirts, with unusual buttons. I don’t remember the brand names, but they have a pretty large selection.

There are not only issues related to kashrus associated with baked goods. Most people will not take “challah” from the dough from baked goods, because cakes, cookies etc. don’t usually have enough flour to require challah be taken. However, if you are baking a lot for purim, and storing cakes in the freezer or even in a cabinet, the cakes combine (“tziruf sal”)for the amount that triggers a requirement to take challah. Even something thats made with a batter, and not a dough can be combined after baking to trigger a requirement to take challah, if stored in one place after baking.

It has nothing to do with not wanting to spend time with the kids. Many of us would be stay-at-home parents if we could it, but we can barely make ends meet with two working parents. Regardless, this mid-winter vacation is absolutely ridiculous!! Chanukah vacation was only a month ago, so how can everyone “need a break” already?!? My son’s playgroup teacher gave off the full week from last Thursday through today, and my daughter has been off all week as well. The only one who wasn’t off this week was my teenager, who could have watched the younger kids had that scholl been off as well…..

There were many similar holidays observed durng the times of the second beis hamikdash, and all of the others were abolished. The question is asked, what was special about chanukah that it remained, and was not abolished when the beis hamikdash was destroyed. The asnwer given is that Chanukah was abolished as well, but the jews as a group decided to continue observing it. Chanukah is not observed because it was decreed by the “zealous rabbis”, but rather it is observed despite the fact that it was abolished with the destruction of the beis hamikdash.

in a two-income house, why is it the wife’s responsibility to do laundry? It only works that way, when the husband works and the wife stays to take of the house and children, but if the wife works too, how can she also be responsible for everything in the house?!?!?

Was on the train heading to manhattan. Was planning on stopping in Century 21 to shop, but was running late, soo I stayed on the train to midtown. Conductor announced accident at WTC, but gave no details. As we were going over Manhattan bridge, a guy sitting near me received a call from his wife who was near the twin towers and saw the first plane hit. When we passed, we were able to see smoke from the first plane, and the second plane hadn’t hit yet. The train continued on to Midtown, with everyone thinking it was an accident. I didn’t hear any more details until I got to work, then, after staying in the office for a couple of hours, walked home to Brooklyn, which took hours.
Star-K website has a lot of information about what you can with many appliances. I believe that you can only open the door of an ovenonce, to take food out. You cannot put food into an oven on shabbos.

Sam2 – Kids at risk is very real problem in the frum community these days. Your sarcastic response shows how little you know about what goes on around you. There is a school for “at-risk girls” on Coney Island Avenue in Flatbush where drug counseling (and other counseling) is part of the curriculum, and most of these girls grew up in our communities. All night parties and “raves” are the norm for these teens. I can go on and on, but suffice it to say that this is not not a minor problem, and you should be very thankful you haven’t had to deal with it…

The OU’s policy has always been not to comment on the reliability of other hashgochos. Rabbi Eidltz from the KIC in California runs a website called Kosherquest.org, and you can usually email him though the website, and he will give you information about the hashgochos that he is familiar with.

I was told by a rov in Brooklyn who is the administrator for widely respected kashurs orgainzation that a fruit store or a large grocery store that runs a large-scale fruit operations always have special, expensive knives that they use to cut fruit, and it is very unlikely that they would those knives to cut anything else. He said I could buy cut-up fruit in such stores.
