It strengthens the belief by actually uttering or doing it as it says heemanti ki adaber as in the Hagaddah Shel Pesach. The starting letters are שפה, the lips. One thing to want to do it and another to actually do it.

ujm, I am reading from yahoo news: Stacey Abrams conceded Georgia’s governor race to Brian Kemp on Tuesday night. Although some people seemed to gloss over the issue as an “oh well” situation, I think that Abrams deserved more.

I did not like Trump’s policies elevating autocrats and degrading our allies. Giving tax breaks to the rich which to my knowledge has not increased economic activity but our national debt. Originally he down played the dangers of COVID causing over a million dead including some of my friends. I also give him credit for the acceleration of the vaccine production but not the encouragement of taking it. General Mattis, a recognized expert, was forced out. The advisors could stay if they kiss up to him. They were unable to disagree. Only yes men were kept.

CS, two wrongs don’t make right. If I have known, I would have not voted for him as it becomes a question in one’s trustworthiness but I don’t like one following Trump either.
I will repeat what I wrote on another topic about Trump:
Trump as president was grossly incompetent by encouraging his best advisors to resign and fire them otherwise because he considered himself a stable genius. A smart person wants to hear the advice of others and not hire yes men. He had no political experience. He destroyed all of our alliances and almost NATO. The US gains from its existence as the support of Ukraine. He forgot about the Domino Theory. He endorsed likewise a great football player which does not a senator make. Similarly, a TV doctor snake oil salesman does not make one either. J D Vance bought his position. The only good thing he did was the Abraham Accords. It is no wonder that he is being recognized as a loser.

There is a story of a Rebbi Yonasan Steif ztz’l where one of his talmidim (later my rebbi Rav Holtzer ztz’l at the Wiener Yeshiva ) came to him to avoid being drafted into the army. He gave him a lachash, incantation to say before appearing in front of the doctor. Say, the goats in the slaughter house are fatter than me, עיזי דבי טבחא שמינה ממני. When he uttered it, his hands developed green blotches, like a leper. When the doctor saw him, he threw him out, saying, what are you trying to do? Infect us. When he went outside, it disappeared.

This was an argument when the Yeshiva of Volozhin became in danger. The gedolim then did not stop learning whereas the Chasam Sofer said that we must protect yiddishkeit.

We have to be careful that the chumrah, being overdone, should not lead to a kulah. The Chacham Tzvi wanted to be matir kitniyos as it requires to make more matzos and there is the danger of not being able to watch out for chametz. The Chayai Adam wanted to asser potatoes, so he was told that he is taking away the chayai adam. It says לא תוסיפו ולא תגרעו ממנו the addition brings to a diminution. Adam Harishon by adding not to touch ended up in eating from the eiz hadaas. The mashel is to the individual who borrowed some silver utensils. When paying back, he gave back an additional piece saying it gave birth. Later, he wanted to borrow an expensive candelabra. The lender thought, why not I will receive a smaller one back. The end was that the borrower never returned it by saying, it died. So when asked, how can it die? He said if you believe it gave birth, you also have to believe it died.

No, they are cases that we avoid being strict, nidos and eruvin. The gemora says כח דהתירא עדיף where Rashi explains to asser something is no big deal as anyone can do that but to be matir, one had to learn from his rebbis to justify it.

Using Maharam Shick’s explanation of a Chasam Sofer it was understood that tzadikim should join the Knesses. There was an argument by Miriam and Amrom on the separation of Yocheved her mother and his wife. His logic was to exhaust the neshamas in the guf by having no more children and thereby bring Meshiach. Miriam said that would work if every one would divorce their wives but if the tzadikim will follow him and the reshaim will not, Meshiach will not come and they end up with all reshaim. Similarly it was ruled that it is important for tzadukim to join the Knesses otherwise the reshaim will do whatever they want without any say of the tzadikim. The recent election proves this point.

AAQ, I explained with a Midrash why did Shimon Hamosini not think of the darush of Rav Akiva, to include the talmidei chachamim? It says ?ויאמינו בה’ ובמשה עבדו – אם במשה האמינו בה’ לא כ’ש they believed in Hashem and His servant Moshe, if they believed in Moshe they certainly believed in Hashem? אם כן למה נאמר במשה then why does it say in Moshe as one who believes in talmidei chachamim is like one believing in Hashem It should have said that the belief in Hashem is superfluous not Moshe? Maybe, the strength of Moshe comes from Hashem by his belief in Him, therefore Moshe is superfluous. Similarly for Shimon Hamosini to fear the talmidei chachamim whose strength comes from Hashem was obvious but for Rebbi Akiva who originally hated talmidei chachamim it was not obvious.

    Repeating from an other topic:

Look at the Sefer Habris who explains that there are 25 levels of neshama. נפש, רוח, נשמה, חיה, יחידה within each there are 5 levels such as נפש שבנפש, רוח שבנפש וכו. Each has a maximum strength. Once we arrive to the highest level of the current neshama by defeating the yetzer hara, the yetzer hara cannot be stronger but it wants to be. So Hashem gives the person a higher level of neshama. So according to this, being a tzadik or a beneni is relative to one’s neshama. It is the maximum or middle for the current level of the neshama.

A צדיק – צפןן, דרום, ימה and קדמה going to all directions and not being a hermit but going all over. Hashem who has everything, why did He create the world? The Midrash compares it to a king with a storeroom of all goods. He says, what should I do with this? I will share it with my servants and the only thing I require from them is to praise me for it. Similarly עולם חסד יבנה Hashem created the world with chesed, favor in mind to share his wealth with us. Therefore, it is our responsibility also to share our knowledge and wealth with others. The other thing the world requires is הכרת הטוב, recognizing the good each provides the other. Hashem personally does not need praise but it encourages continued provision when something given is appreciated. The reference for all of this is the Binah Leitim.

Shimon Hamosini, when he found that something is not right, was willing to give up his whole lifetime work around 2600 es-en in the Torah. Arriving to the emes, discovering the truth was most important to him.

Avira, with all of our striving we need siyata Dishmaya from Hashem Yisborach. We require His help to be mechaven the emes, Torah aliba dehilchasa. The Midrash Shmuel asks on כל מחלוקת לשם שמים סופו להתקיים, all arguments for a Divine purpose, who wants a machlokes, an argument to stand? He answers that the Beis Shamai because through their opposite view helped the Beis Hilel to arrive to the truth became also praiseworthy. The Beis Hilel, because of their humility, also allowed them to come first to be able to hear another view in order to avoid tunnel vision, seeing only one side of an argument.

The Ramban says that since Sarah chotoh, sinned by afflicting Hagar therefore we will be afflicted by the Yishmaelim. The Abarbanel questions that Sarah by afflicting her forced to follow her teachings, so why did she sin? Also, the malach says go back and continue to get afflicted. When one eats garlic and mouth smells is not told to eat more. Maybe, the word chotoh can also mean to err, make a mistake. The gemora says that a Jewish servant if not behaving properly is allowed to be afflicted. Sarah Imenu, if not afflicting Hagar, could have given us an excuse to say that Sarah could have afflicted Hagar but she didn’t. Therefore we should not be punished when we don’t behave properly.

The Meir Einei Chachamim from the Ostroptzer rebbe explains a saying in the gemora in an interesting fashion. It says that one who grabs on to the stringency of the Beis Shamai and the Beis Hillel at the same time, it is written on him, the fool walks in darkness. The gemora questions the the view of the one who follows the view of the Beis Shamai of shevisas kelim, the kelim must rest, how can Shabbos candles be lit? The gemora answers that is mafker the candle lighter. The Beis Hillel’s view is that hefker has to be both for the rich and the poor by having to give up ownership completely. However, according the Beis Shamai when ownership is given up only for the poor then I still can have partial ownership and thereby light the candles but when it is given up for both, how can one light Shabbos candles? When one lights, will reacquire the candle lighter? So the fool will end up not being able to light and be in darkness.

From Chabad Known as the Rosh, Ashkanez and Sfard who gives us our Mesora:

    Rabbi Asher ben Yechiel, 1250?-1327
The life and influence of Rabbi Asher ben Yechiel, known by the acronym “Rosh”, straddled the two great spheres of the Jewish diaspora of his time, the Ashkenazic (Franco-German) and the Sephardic (Spanish-Mediterranean) communities. Born approximately 1250 in Western Germany, Rabbi Asher studied under the famed Tosaphist Rabbi Meir of Rothenburg, fathered eight sons, and authored one of the earliest codifications of Jewish law. In mid-life he fled the persecutions of medieval Christian Europe, settling in Spain where Jews prospered materially and Jewish learning flourished in the Spanish Golden Age.

Though a penniless exile and newcomer, Rabbi Asher’s genius and erudition quickly earned him a position of prestige and influence. In 1304 he was invited to to serve as the spiritual leader of the Jews of Toledo, where he established a Talmudic academy and transplanted the Ashkenazic Tosaphists’ system of Talmudic interpretation and analysis. He also introduced the traditionalism and piety of the early Ashkenazic “Chassidim” (reversing the secularist trends in certain segments of Sephardic Jewry).

Rabbi Asher passed away in Toledo on Cheshvan 9 of the year 5088 from creation (1327 of the Common Era).

He researches all views when paskening a halacha. I follow his views when it comes to tircha deztiburei, not to put any extra burden by the Shatz or individual on the tzibur.
