To have a happy marriage, think of the mezuza. Some say to place it vertically and others say to place it horizantilly, so we make a compromise and place it slented. Similarly, marriage will need much compromise. It is called nisuyin meaning elevate. To have a happy marriage, you must place each other on a pedestal.

worldwatcher, everything is not so simple. It matters why you are unhappy. If you are unhappy being alone, marriage will help you, otherwise, it might not.

About pressure ond Zelinsky, when you push someone to the wall strong enough, eventually he will scream ‘uncle’. He was afraid to say I was pressured in order not to anger Trump.

As the moderaton in CR, we would need a hechshar on the books. There is nothing wrong with an essay by Helen Keller of Three Days to See where she provides an appreciation for our sight.

The 25th word in Parashas Breishis יהי ‘אור’ ויהי אור , if we pray for light, we get light. This is an implication of finding hidden secrets in the Torah with the power of the hidden light.

The custom to relight candles in the shul in the morning according to the Sheorim Metzuyonim Behalacha on the Kitzur is based on the above Rambam. Even though it might not be seen in the light, but it is done for zecher lemikdash and not for parsumei nisei, I explained.

You should use new wicks for hiddur mitzva. In the Beis Hamikdash there was a mitzva of hatovas neros to replace the old wicks. According to the Rambam, Hilchas Temidim Umusofim 3,12 if it went out, ithey would clean it, replace it and relight it in the morning, but the Rashba holds that they would relight it in the afternoon.

I agree with knaidllach that love comes after marriage. It says Breishis 24,67 Yitzchok brough Rivkah to the tent of his mother Sara, he took Rivkah as his wife and came to love her thereby consoling himself after his mother.
The Ohr Hachaim Hakadosh gives two reasons why Yaakov Avinu loved Rachel, one, not because of her beauty but being his besherte, two. beauty was against resisting yetzer hara by not desiring someone beautiful. He saw her as a cheftzei shel mitzva.

    Parashas Vayeshev

Rashi says that Yaakov Avinu wanted to live in peace. HKBH said. isn’t it enough for tzadikim to have the world to come, they also want this world, so the worry about Josef fell on him. The question is, why does Hashem not want tzadikim to have both worlds?
Explains the Ksav Sofer and the Chanukas Hatorah (Rebbe R’ Heshel) comparing a tzadk and a rasha. For the tzadik, his whole life is a worry that maybe he does not have olam habo, so he constantly improves himself to gain olam habo and the same time since his life is a worry, he loses his olam hazeh. The rasha either he is sure he has olam habo or doesn’r believe in it, so he does nothing improve and thereby he loses it, but he gains olam hazeh as he has no worries. Yaakov Avinu wanted to live now worry free by being sure that he has olam habo, so he had to worry about Josef thereby worrying about his olam habo as he can only have olam habo if all his children stay alive.

There are two contradictory sayings, absence makes the heart go founder. or out of sight out of mind. You have to decide which one is applicable. Could be you don’t miss him/her because they are not really absent, so I agrree with the previous post to imagine going on a plane ride and thinking what would be your reaction.

ותקע כף ירך יעקב says the Shlah Hakodash the word kaf is not so good because it has a kaf kemutze, clenched fist and a peh peshuta, open mouth. We switch כף to פך having a peh kemutza, ckosed mouth and an kaf peshuta, an open hand. According to this, could be, שלום רב לאוהבי תורתך ואין בהם מכשול, מכשול is the same as שלום with a ‘כ’ in it which is not good.

anynomous, you can’t hide yourself like Trump. Michael Cohen indicated that Trump hints what is on his mind. We have to interpret his pattern of behavior. The letter indicates ‘do me a favor though’ was is ‘though’?
We have to understand the letter in context as he mentions javelins before. How is it that for the previous president of Ukrane, who was really corrupt, Trump provided aid? Why did he ask China to investigate Biden as the corruption of the Bidens was not in China? Why diid he not investigate the Bidens before he became a candidate? All this indicates that he was not out for the corruptiion of the Bidens but to stop his political opponent.

Philosopher, you are misunderstanding my point. Was Nixon stupid when he resigned? He knew he will be impeached. They both affected our democracy by manupilating our elections and thereby violated the constitution whereas Clinton was impeached on something that had nothing to do with governance.

There is no such thing as a negative midah. Every midah has its pllace. It matters under what instance you use it. Hate in the wrong situation is wrong and so is love. Sometimes showing anger is justified. Jealousy for Torah knowledge is good. So you must train yourself to use midahs appropriate to the situatuon. That is why you should pause before applying a midah to determine if it is applicable.

בשמים ממעל ועל הארץ מתחת The Klei Yokor interprets, when is comes to heavenlly (spiritual) things, look at people above you, but wheh it comes to earthly (material) things, look at peiple below you. The Chasan Sofer explains, look at the letter nun, it is narrow above, not being satisfied spiritually, but wide below, being satisfied materially.
