Another idea similar but different.. People who are jealous say, I am just as good as you are , so the seeing the red string reminds him of his sins which might bring above to check the books for him to see whether he is worthy of it and thereby he might be punished. This will take away his jealousy and repent so he can see white. Yermiah 2 warns that people who say, I did not sin, might get punished. The Binah Leitim explains the expression אנכי נשפט אןתך על אמרך לא חטאתי, it should have said שופט אותך? He explains that when we say, I did not sin, we are making Hashem our adversary in judgement, who says you did sin and therefore, there will not be a forgiveness, but if he admits his sin, he will be forgiven.

Why does it say, stop the talking in shul, rather than stop talking in shul? Aren’t the gaboim responsible to stop the talking? You only make them angry if you tell them to stop talking. They know there are not suppose to talk and they still talk. If they talk they feel that they have a heter. The Rav should emphasize the importance of not talking.

As I am learning daf yomi Brochos 5,2 that we should stay together in shul when we came together and not leave your friend alone so Tosfas says that currently it doesn’t apply but it is nice to do it. Maybe with the danger now, this halacha gets reconstituted. see SA O’CH 90,15 in the RMA.

When saying or looking with jealousy on the good fortune of someone can awaken the accusers above (kitrug) to check his books whether he is worthy of it. As mentioned above, the red stting acknowledges his guilt, thereby quieting the kitrug, giving him foregiveness and protecting the child by showing mercy. Maybe the first born has the might and is in a bigger danger to be punished in
    the sins of the parents.

Why did not the parent tie the red string? Maybe the custom was that the midwife would do the will of the parent when the child was born and the red string served two functions, one for recognizing the first born, second against ayin hara.

The Ramban says on ואולך אתכם קוממיות that even the Torah allows a doctor to cure, he should not go the doctor.
It is important to realize on what the Ramban is saying this. There will be a time when we will be a hundred times as great, so Hashem brings on us pain from love. This is a test of trust of Hashem, so we don’t want to do anything to stop it through a doctor, only Hashem who brought it on him should cure him.

We are not trained in using firearms. People who were afraid or sinned were sent back. Rashi explains that they could say they returned because of the other reasons. It says הקל קול some translate it that when Yaakov’s voice is weak, Aisov comes.

The Otzae Yisroel quotes the targum on Koheles (10,20) Then person should be careful what he says because Raziell Hamalach spreads his words on Har Sinai and Eliyohu flies on wings and tells what is being said secretly to the residents of the world so his nsme is secrets of G-d. (no one knows but G-d).

The symbol Magen David is kabalistic depicting the seven sefiros where Malchus or David is in the middle. and the others are on the six edges. It was used in 1354 where Karl IV commanded the Jews of Prage to have a red flag with a magen david on it. The Igros Moshe (O’CH 3,15) questions whether you should remove it from the curtain on the aron hakadesh that was placed there some time ago? He rules we don’t have to as there is no basis for it, but there is a benefit to show Hashem rules over the whole universe in all six directions. The Otzar Yisroel says that the symbol can be found in the Sefer Raziel Hamalach. There is a small book called the Cosmic Bagel by Yitzchak Shimon Hurwitz describes the kabalistic aspect of it in great detail.

I found the source for the red string. For Yehuda’s sons, to know who came out first, the midwife tied a red string on him.

When she gave birth and one stretched his hand out, the midwife took his hand and tied a red string on him to know who came out first.

The problem is that women say birchas hatorah because they must know halachas that apply to them. In daf yomi, usually halachas are not learned.

I did not see any reason for the red string. I can give you a reason on my own. Young children get punished because of the parents sins. So we making a proclamation by placing the red string (which symbolizes sin) on our children indicating that we deserve to be punished, so have mercy on our children. This is based on the pasuk אם יהי-ה חטאיכם כשנים כשלג ילבינו if you see your sins red ike red strings, they will turn white like snow.

Benephraim, the Chasan Sofer interprets כל הסומך גאולה לתפילה של ערבית מובטח לו שהוא בן עולם הבא ואינו ניזוק כל אותו היום people are hurting him by questioning why isn’t Meshiach coming? He knows that at the time of galus the redemption is dependent on the proper tefila and that will calm him down and won’t feel harmed. The Rabbenu Yonah says a similar interpretation on והסר ממנו יגון ואנחה asking that we should not be depressed and saddened by thinking that Meshiach has not come yet.

    Reb Eliezer

The Chasan Sofer explains why we say that tefila at night is optional. A person should not only daven at night when it is going bad for him. It is more important to daven, give thanks and not to take for granted, when he is doing good. The Ramban holds that בעת צרה is a mitzva min hatorah to daven. The Mesilas Yeshorim says that a child who loves his father anticipates what he wants. Over here he waited when davening was necessary, so it becomes an obligation.

I heard that it comprises two greek deltas signifying the army of David. There is a big difference between a tzelem and magen david. A tzelem only has extremes. The catholics only go by extremes like celibacy. Therefore, goyim can only bring an aloh which is burned completely whereas we bring a shelamim where we make peace with Hashem by eating it lashem shomayim. A magen david contains no extremes but midpoints.

We say הליכות עולם לו, אל תקרא הליכות אלא הלכות, we don’t need to wear a symbol to show we are Jewish. Our behaviour outside should show we follow halachas and we are Jewish. Wearing tefilin shows that we are tied to Hashem and we believe in Him.

The word מאימתי instead ממתי is very interesting. It is aramaic indicating that one person comunicates with Hashem as the malochim don’t want to understand it. It says הפך בה הפך בה why twice? Could be, first indicating that we should repeat what we learned more than once. The Ben Ish Chai explains that someone might turn around the Torah by questioning it, but don’t leave it like that. Turn it back. The word מאימתי, I was told, is not immutable through את-בש as the word צדקה which cannot be destroyed, but it turns itself back. All the letters
    are included in the word.

Abraham came to realize G-d on his own as his father was an idol worshipper. The stoty goes that he broke all idols to pieces except the largest one. He put a hammer in its hand and said to his father that it became angry on the others and broke them to pieces. Judaism only started from Mount Sinai where the Torah was given. After Adam sinned by eating the forbidden fruit he was banished from Paradise and they had to discover G-d on their own.

Other religions believe in multiple deities. We believe in one G-d Almighty who needs no help from anyone else.
We believe in everything in the Torah even though it is unclear to us, because the lack of understanding is a deficiency in us. Kosher is healthier than non-kosher. Something we do without understanding is not wearing shatnez.

He is a son in law of Rav Tzitron from Hajdu Dorog. The Soproner Rav, Rav Shimon Posen ztz’l already was in America. In the misnah it says בערבין in plural. Why plural? Ths Tosfas Chadoshim on misnah explains according to the Rabbenu Taam, there are two nights, two shkiyos. Ths GRA in Shnos Eliyohu, who does not follow the Rabbenu Taam but the geonim, says that the two nights start by the afternoon when the sun turns west and the shkia.
