Move to a lower tax state.
April 7, 2019 12:11 pm at 12:11 pm in reply to: Tax Time Nightmare….Trump’s Tax Reforms Cost me big time #1710442lakewhutParticipantIt helped me
lakewhutParticipantK-cup I think the ones he sees in the restaurants.
lakewhutParticipantJust because a yeshivish person looks serious, doesn’t mean that he’s unhappy.
April 2, 2019 8:34 pm at 8:34 pm in reply to: YCT rejects semicha for openly practicing MishkavZacharnik #1707518lakewhutParticipantYCT shouldn’t exist.
April 1, 2019 1:50 pm at 1:50 pm in reply to: It’s different OOT>>>>>We work together as one community #1706106lakewhutParticipantIn some places, modern people cause problems for Yeshivas.
April 1, 2019 10:44 am at 10:44 am in reply to: Donald Trump should not be the President of the United States #1705987lakewhutParticipantWell, it’s not like a shtetl where a corrupt askan can throw him out. He won the 2016 election m that’s why he’s president.
March 28, 2019 9:08 pm at 9:08 pm in reply to: It’s different OOT>>>>>We work together as one community #1704501lakewhutParticipantOne school isn’t good for everybody. There are out of towers who intermarry. Nothing is perfect.
lakewhutParticipantJews were more traditional, but there were a lot of ignorant Jews. There were periods of messianic Jews. Jews in Germany were more assimilated than Jews who lived in ghettos in the pale of settlement – parts of present day Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania. Even the Jews who were Maskilim or hellinists didn’t imtermarry at a high rate, if at all. In Germany, France, England, intermarriage was more common.
lakewhutParticipantAkuperma, nice diversion.
March 27, 2019 7:01 pm at 7:01 pm in reply to: Ice cream called “big gay” certified kosher-what’s your take? #1703264lakewhutParticipantNeville there are a lot of people who think that kosher means that the food was blessed by a rabbi. I’ve heard people use that.
lakewhutParticipantFor some, their first BH home is very hard to recover from, when they return to EY. New goyish music playing in the car, old friends ask to go to movies, sports games. Some old friends could be into worse things. I’m not going to say what to do, but OP has legitimate concerns.
lakewhutParticipantNot many have the experience of being in EY for Pesach. If you can find meals, go for it. There’s a lot to see in EY. Take advantage by going to places you’ve never been.
lakewhutParticipantMake sure to have a schedule. Being bored isn’t good. A commitment to make minyan everu day and learn after davening should be made.
March 26, 2019 4:28 pm at 4:28 pm in reply to: Ice cream called “big gay” certified kosher-what’s your take? #1702110lakewhutParticipantMeno, yes it is. It is both.
March 26, 2019 4:04 pm at 4:04 pm in reply to: Ice cream called “big gay” certified kosher-what’s your take? #1702054lakewhutParticipantWhether they intend to or not, a certification is an advertisement of its product. End of story.
March 26, 2019 3:57 pm at 3:57 pm in reply to: Ice cream called “big gay” certified kosher-what’s your take? #1702051lakewhutParticipantBecause of this, I googled the company. They certify flavors that have pretty offensive names. They could easily use that as a reason not to certify them. Then again, OU is a MO organization.
March 26, 2019 1:51 pm at 1:51 pm in reply to: Ice cream called “big gay” certified kosher-what’s your take? #1701964lakewhutParticipantThere’s no requirement for the OU to certify anyone. A halal agency would get away with not certifying something like that. But the liberal Dem Jews would be first in line to smear the OU. The OU shouldn’t give the hashgacha and every rav should back that up.
lakewhutParticipantNorth Korea
March 20, 2019 9:25 am at 9:25 am in reply to: How to become a Gadol (not the bar mitzva kind)? #1699089lakewhutParticipantRead making of a godol?
lakewhutParticipantHow can you forget Rav Gifter and Rav Scheinberg
lakewhutParticipantIs YU Orthodox?
lakewhutParticipantThey do but it’s hard to give up the lexus and house in the suburbs. Some think being a Zionist means you hang a flag in your Shul.
lakewhutParticipantLerntmin it alresdy started before the war. YCB and YOB are over 100 years old.
lakewhutParticipantWhat did you mean by “I am a Commissioner of the Superior Court in CT.” ?
lakewhutParticipantCTL yes you are Because if it came down to it you’d have to support abortion in a court of law
lakewhutParticipantZSK wrong. He means people whose families lived in the middle east but not from Spain.
lakewhutParticipantI want to eat nikkar meat
lakewhutParticipantjackk take some fish oil supplements.
March 18, 2019 3:08 pm at 3:08 pm in reply to: What is the problem with the internet (rhetorical) #1697829lakewhutParticipantDo you not know?
lakewhutParticipantCTLawyer that makes it even worse. You’re part of a force that allows abortion. “Settled law” doesn’t change the issue. You’re an example why Jews shouldn’t be lawyers.
March 18, 2019 12:51 pm at 12:51 pm in reply to: GAN DY: Should beis medresh bocherim have dorm counselors? #1697705lakewhutParticipantNowadays, it is needed for bochurim aged 19-20. A few bad apples can turn a yeshiva into a drug rehab.
lakewhutParticipantHow do you get to marry rich, if you aren’t?
lakewhutParticipantThe democrat party is worse for us in 2019. We shouldn’t be endorsing people like Cuomo or We Blasio.
June 8, 2017 3:00 pm at 3:00 pm in reply to: How come all frum Jews today aren’t Chassidic? #1292153lakewhutParticipantNot all Jews put their focus on a rebbe.
June 2, 2017 10:19 am at 10:19 am in reply to: Anti Zionist demonstration planned in Barclays Center #1288896lakewhutParticipantIt’s 2017. Get over it. Israel is a state. Move on. If you love the PA so much, move to the west bank.
lakewhutParticipantCancel your con ed account and ride a horse
lakewhutParticipantNo, then the antisemites will win. The French Jews in the financial sector are not leaving France, no matter who wins.
lakewhutParticipantThere are also jobs
lakewhutParticipantFillon lost.
lakewhutParticipant@joseph You are lost. Tznius and kosher are two opposite things. How would you legislate tznius?
lakewhutParticipant@Joseph,
“Halachas are, effectively, legislated. Thus, keeping kosher and keeping tznius is legislated.”
Kashruss is effectively legislated by establishments having certification. How should tznius be legislated? You want a vaad tznius who goes around intimidating people? There’s nothing you can do.
lakewhutParticipantIf they are hostile it means they are aware
lakewhutParticipantAll jews are aware. Some care and some don’t. This is the reality.
lakewhutParticipantThis isn’t even a controversy. Someone in your family broke off from your tradition. It’s not reverting; it’s restoring your tradition. Go for it. More people should follow in your footsteps. Nusach Sefard shouldn’t be a monopoly.
lakewhutParticipantIt’s not a mainstream flatbush/lakewood if you get my drift kind of place. It’s a very diverse place. There are guys that have come from flatbush, five towns/far rockaway, OOT , South Africa, Canada, UK, and Australia.
The Yeshiva is right next to town; for some, it’s a challenge that’s difficult to overcome.
The Rosh Yeshiva is a central focus. So, it’s a place where one can gain a connection with said person. Rabbeim and Kollel people encourage guys to stay there a long time, and the hashkafos are a bit different from mir, and the like. Definitely hadracha.
If your friend witnessed the style of learning, then he has an idea of what it’s like.
lakewhutParticipantCalling a Jew “Charedi” has the same connotation as using the N word to describe a black person. Those who can’t understand this, need to do soul-searching.
lakewhutParticipantCharedi is a perjorative used by modox, reform, zionists, etc because of various insecurities that they have. Don’t go there.
lakewhutParticipantFalse. Any Rabbi who uses the charedi label is being politial and is questionable.
lakewhutParticipantYes. No debate.
