If someone doesn’t fit on one chair, they should sit on two. Or sit on the couch.

in reply to: How many times did you take the road test? #942808

Exactly, but as you only pass after you take the test it includes the last one you took. You actually did get it after taking and failing four times… the fifth was only scheduled, not taken.

in reply to: How many times did you take the road test? #942806

I guess popa has no drivers license then… if he failed all four times he took it… I guess he gave up.

    in reply to: Moderator #951865

    I think it was renamed

in reply to: Brainwashing as Part of Chinuch #1014289

popa just assumes that he is competent… he’s experienced. Personally I think brainwashing is convincing someone by using repetition or other such methods versus logic or trusted sources.

There are some very nice galleries in the artists quarter.

in reply to: Halachic question relating to sefirah #942554

The way I learned it, the reason we don’t listen to music during Sefira is in order to remind us not to make a wedding. If someones minhag is to hold different days in Sefira, since they are allowed to make the wedding you are allowed to attend the wedding. I didn’t learn anything about music by sheva brachos though.

in reply to: One of the Causes for Weight GainοΏ½Shadchanim #943303

By shadchanim, aunts, girls that I knew who were size 2. No, they didn’t say “you’re so overweight.” What they did say is “wow, you look so good! If you lose a little bit more you’ll be a perfect size.” Relatives would tell me to continue to lose weight until I’m a size 6. If not for some really good friends that made sure that I ate three meals a day every day, I probably would have. It wouldn’t have been healthy for me to lose more weight.

why don’t you just buy the bridge?

in reply to: Why should I go to sem? #1043520

Not all sems are equal. If you choose one that is a good match to your style than you can have an amazing year. You might want to try a half year seminary, to get the experience without the boredom that usually comes towards the end of the winter.

in reply to: One of the Causes for Weight GainοΏ½Shadchanim #943301

SaysMe- unfortunately it is. I worked really hard to become a size 10 only to still be considered overweight…

in reply to: Contest: How Long Can You Go Without Chometz? #944698

akuperma- I think you mean allergies to gluten. Oat bread is just as much chometz as wheat bread.

in reply to: One of the Causes for Weight GainοΏ½Shadchanim #943297

Yserbius123- maybe saysme isn’t talking about very overweight girls. I personally think the weight issue it taken to extremes. Girls that are size 10 are considered overweight. Even when they’re 5’6″. A girl who’s 5′ and is a size two has the same proportions but is considered acceptable… When I was in high school girls would starve themselves for shidduchim. I don’t see any reason a girl shouldn’t be able to live normally and find a decent shidduch…

in reply to: Afikomen Tnai #942209

We do afikomen al tnai if we’re running late, and we’re still up to shulchan orach a few minutes before chatzos… I think it’s a brilliant solution to getting afikomen on time.

in reply to: Coming to shachris #941059

So Yankel says, “rebbe, ich g’paskened k’dvei rebbi yishmael.”

Therefore I don’t buy this story. Any natural yiddish speaker would have phrased this differently, either as “rebbe, ich pasken k’dvei rebbi yishmael.” or “rebbe, ich hab g’paskened k’dvei rebbi yishmael”.

in reply to: teachers tying the children's shoelaces. #939662

I taught a sixth grader last year who did not know how to tie her own laces. Every time I had to tie it for her, I tried teaching her how to tie them herself. It took many times until she got it. Parents- if the pair of sneakers you liked are laced, and your kid doesn’t know how to tie laces you can take the laces out and put in rubber instead. We did it to my sisters crocs sneakers and it worked wonderfully all summer. She was three years old and was able to put them on and take them off herself.

pou_bear- true, not everyone gets swept off their feet, but if she hasn’t been dating for a long time yet than we can’t know if it’s just her not being the excitable type or him not being exciting enough. If she’s dating for a few years already and hasn’t met anyone that got her excited even though on paper everything looked good, than maybe she should go ahead anyhow.

in reply to: Get those drunk drivers off the road! #939208

No snow in Caesars bay. Just some flakes. He nearly hit us a few times. Our headlights were on, so our car was obviously not an empty parked car.

in reply to: Get those drunk drivers off the road! #939205

I don’t think so…. too many circles around the parking lot. Whoever is with a learning driver would have stepped on the brakes after maximum 30 seconds. Not after five full minutes. And someone learning how to drive would have hit something- not tons of near misses. There were many obstacles in the lot. My first driving lesson I wouldn’t even step on the gas pedal- most girls I know are also very cautious.

in reply to: Get those drunk drivers off the road! #939202

I don’t know for certain he was drunk. I do know he was going super fast, in random directions, every time he turned his car spun around in circles for a second, wasn’t heading anywhere or stopping. That’s drunken kind of driving. I’m not sure it was 90mph, it could have been more. It was for sure way faster than most people drive on the interstate in no traffic. I don’t know whether it’s a he or she, I just said he because why not?

in reply to: Get those drunk drivers off the road! #939200

We drove away… my sister and I quickly switched places and we drove out and home. I’m not exactly an experienced driver, so it was better that my sister drive. Leaving on foot would be really dangerous, because if he tries chasing us we can’t run away.

If you bypass it they snap a picture of your license plate and just mail you the bill later… it’s a lot more money than just paying it on the spot. Our EZ pass was broken once… we were able to prove that though, and just pay the normal fee.

in reply to: Shabbos Hagodol ''Drosha'' #939523

In our shul it’s always halacha l’maysah. The rav reminds us to throw out the vaccuum cleaner bags, etc.

in reply to: Finding Out if It Will Be a Boy or Girl? #1028766

I don’t know… something seems wrong about painting bedrooms and buying clothing in advance. It takes away from the excitement when the baby is actually born. It also causes more pain if for some reason or another the baby isn’t healthy. My brother was born on a Thursday night. We got a beautiful shalom zachor together on Friday morning. We bought him nice outfits too, as he was the first boy so there were no hand me downs. If anything, running to buy clothes right after he was born made us even more excited than buying them before the baby could wear it. If we would have bought them before he was born, they wouldn’t have fit him because he was way larger than the doctors expected.

If steering wheels would have breathalyzers and shut the car down when it senses alchohol in the drivers breath, there would be far fewer collisions.

nanny- ask your travel agent. She’ll see it in her system which flights are carried by El Al. Bear in mind that you’ll only get El Al security for the first leg. That is the riskier leg though.

in reply to: Why Are Seminaries So Expensive #939125

interjection- most seminaries have only a few trips the whole year. Not enough to add up to 20k.

in reply to: R' Blumenkrantz Pesach Digest 2013 #939901

I’m talking about the homeade ones special for pesach… yum… there’s almost no oil in the pot, just enough to keep it from sticking but still you try to make sure none of it should stay.

in reply to: Stuffing Your Face w/ Marror, Red as a Tomato #940607

People like proving how macho they are that they can handle large amount of horseradish… I take lettuce and horseradish, but not so much horseradish that my face would turn red. My cousins are usually streaming tears by marror. It’s almost a contest who takes the most.

in reply to: R' Blumenkrantz Pesach Digest 2013 #939899

what if your fifteen year old is frying the noodles for the soup? They have to be drained right away, and she’s using one after the other? Old enough to cook, not old enough to realize that there could be a problem

in reply to: R' Blumenkrantz Pesach Digest 2013 #939896

zahavasdad- you know not to use the first three sheets or the last three, but does your kid? Your kid sees you using Bounty, and probably won’t even realize that. When he/she uses the roll, he/she will finish it to the last drop not to waste anything, and will start a new roll right away…

in reply to: Donald Trump #939546

If you have name and address… I doubt a frum guy would give his address to a random car. If he had a unique name than you can get the address from the white pages. Otherwise he has a lot of mortgages to pay…

    in reply to: K'zayis #1146846

The sheets aren’t accurate because every company matza is a different thickness. The cover of the matza box should really have the measure on it…

in reply to: Elal VS. Swiss #939571

Nopes. Just checked Swiss website. To Israel only one suitcase can be checked in.

in reply to: Elal VS. Swiss #939568

SaysMe- no, by now I think all airlines only allow one checked in suitcase. They do have nicer planes though.

in reply to: Donald Trump #939542

Whether Donald Trump confirmed it or not doesn’t really make that much of a difference. He would probably confirm that he gave me $1,000,000 for some favor I did for him too. What would make me believe it is if the guy came forward and has a unique enough name that Donald Trump would have been able to pay off his mortgage without asking for the account number.

in reply to: Elal VS. Swiss #939566

You can have the best of both… some Swiss flights are carried by Elal for the first leg from Israel, so you go through regular Elal security. Then for the long flight you get the comfort of Swiss…

in reply to: Jokes at Vorts/Sheva Brachos #938860

I’m chassidish and I’ve been to many sheva brachos. I’ve never heard anything but praise for the chassan, kallah and their respective families. Sometimes humorous anecdotes are mentioned, but never anything to bring down the chassan.

in reply to: Nurse Refused To Initiate CPR, What Is Your Opinion? #938853

In hospitals patients who have a DNR usually have a bracelet that states that. Wouldn’t the resident have had it on her medical bracelet? Many elderly people, even those who live on their own, wear one.

in reply to: Bar Mitzvah date? #938919

interjection- according to my great-grandmother there were a lot of older singles in her Hungarian town prewar. The only difference was that nobody cared besides for their parents. When her great-grandmother went to Israel as an old woman in order to be buried their, her two unmarried daughters came with her to take care of her. It was the norm for old woman to have an unmarried daughter to take care of them until they died. Today we worry more about the daughter than the aging mother.

in reply to: Only 17 Months #938380

zahavasdad- Have you never heard of people that are formerly chareidi? Imagine being offered seventeen free months of education in a field of your choice- would you say I’d rather not because what’s seventeen months going to help me anyhow? The chareidim view this as seventeen months free education on why not to be chareidi. That’s enough time for someone that was happy until not to become not so sure.

pou_bear- I don’t get off legal holidays or chol hamoed. I might even have work on Monday- and I’m not kidding.

in reply to: To the Parents of Teens #939387

adams- the police are too quick to remove children from their homes. At least in New York, they take kids away if the kid says so much as “My Mommy hit me.” and don’t give the kid back until the home looks like a showcase. My little sister once had a broken leg, and our pediatrician had to vouch for my mother that she did not cause the injury. They wouldn’t believe that a 13 month old baby can fall down and break a leg on her own. This was when there was no other bruise on her body… My friends sister’s kids were almost taken away because of a fall of a bike.

pou_bear curiouser and curiouser… you get paid for sitting and doing nothing and for not coming in on Pesach? Can I join? I’ll bring along my iPod and Kindle and enjoy myself!
