Daniel Rosen- I personally don’t have very expensive things or eat in restaurants. I just don’t think that something that didn’t exist in previous generations should be brought as a proof for now. I also don’t think it’s any of my business thinking into why someone does spend thousands of dollars on things they could have spent way less on.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantI don’t think even Eisav ate in fancy restaurants! π
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantpba- just grow a waist length beard. It really suits some people. Maybe it’ll suit you too.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipant+1
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantneed seminary help- there’s also this thing called a joke. Even if This name is already taken would trust talmud, he/she doesn’t trust any random person reading this thread.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantdotnetter- for #3 I just ask “At which number should he call you back at?” and look up that number… π
April 22, 2013 6:54 pm at 6:54 pm in reply to: Weird, but I don't know if this has any halachic implication #1146933π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantpba- the meat and the fish they have a benefit of mislabeling because the replacements are cheaper. Cows milk is the cheapest milk available in the US, so replacing it with something else wouldn’t be a smart business move. In the middle east, camels milk is widely available and is cheap. That’s not the case in the US.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantMy comments were always like “Bright girl, we appreciate her participation in class. With more effort would do even better blah blah blah.” As a teacher I used the book “Teachers Comments for Report Cards” for help.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantI’m modern ultra-orthodox.
April 22, 2013 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm in reply to: How to answer questions regarding a shidduch #1042541π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantgefen- Please tell your daughter to answer honestly. I don’t mean she has to be knocking- she can say something like “her skirts are usually covering her knees”. She wouldn’t be preventing a happy marriage from happening if she finds a way to say it politely. If he feels cheated, they wouldn’t be happy.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantI’ll do the background. Note- I love whitespace.
April 19, 2013 5:54 pm at 5:54 pm in reply to: All Children Who Leave Our Community Should Pain Us Equally #947417π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantWIY- I know it’s not common. But say it’s the situation of one of the readers here? I don’t know. Should we potentially cause someone pain for being in the minority? Does that obligation apply to children over bar/bas mitzvah? Say a kid goes to the library and uses the 15 minute computer which you don’t need a card for without his parents permission. Is that their responsibility? Note- I don’t mean this rhetorically. I would like an answer.
April 19, 2013 5:39 pm at 5:39 pm in reply to: Obama is crying because his gun law didn't get passed #947928π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantsw33t- by the same measure there should be no guns on the street, as there’s no DWI allowed. The survivors usually say there was a drunk driver, not there was someone driving- by the way he was drunk. People killed by gun holders aren’t killed by a person who happens to have a gun.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantcomputerbagels- In Germany GPSs use male voices because men there didn’t like taking directions from a woman… no kidding. You can look it up.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantThis week is practically always included in Sefirah.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantWe could… some are right back again with different nicknames.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantMammele- I feel the same way about it… there should be some way to force them to continue providing what you paid for. Our office just did the update
April 19, 2013 3:51 pm at 3:51 pm in reply to: All Children Who Leave Our Community Should Pain Us Equally #947415π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantThe little I know- 1) I mentioned in my post that I’m talking about a small minority 2) You’re talking about kids at risk, I’m talking about OTD altogether. I wrote that post because sometimes parents do everything right, keep on telling their kids how much they love them and want them to be happy and the kid still goes off. They feel intense pain when they hear that the kids that are off are blameless and it’s all the parents fault.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantVogue- I didn’t ask whether you spoke to her. I asked how. Did you perhaps raise your voice, or say something like “Get off my yard!”? Some ways of talking are more likely to get the other person angry than others.
April 18, 2013 8:41 pm at 8:41 pm in reply to: All Children Who Leave Our Community Should Pain Us Equally #947408π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantThe little I know- you’re generalizing too much. Not all OTD people are victims. Some are people that get a thrill out of doing what they’re not supposed to, and take pleasure in their parents pain. Yes, this is a small minority but you can’t say all are victims.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantVogue- how did you talk to her? If she got angry at you, I assume you told her something. Maybe next time try not raising your voice, just saying calmly and and firmly “Excuse me- I don’t know whether you are aware of this or not but this is private property and you are trespassing. Use the sidewalk.” If she persists continue “Again, this is private property. I can call the police and report you for trespassing.” If she still persists then call the police. Unrelated- how is it to be back home? Do you miss New York?
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantHealth- I think all those who don’t believe in ADHD should live with someone that has it for a week… at the end of the week they’ll be begging the person to take their medication. I had a friend that before she got to know me and met my sibling, didn’t believe that ADHD is a real thing, because people use the word as an adjective for restless children. Now she really sees what’s the difference between normal restlessness and ADHD.
April 18, 2013 3:31 pm at 3:31 pm in reply to: All Children Who Leave Our Community Should Pain Us Equally #947403π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantI know several people that are OTD. None of them are drug addicts or anything like that, but they’re not Harvard graduates either. Most of them went OTD because they didn’t have a decent social life when they were religious. No, that’s not the reason they’ll tell you, but that’s the truth. Problem is that social skills don’t magically rain down on you when you go OTD. Now they have other socially awkward OTD friends though, so that’s keeping them from coming back. I only know one OTD person who has good social skills, and that person still respects and gets along very well with religious people. Most OTD people on drugs is not because they stopped believing in Hashem but rather that they have major issues. Someone with major issues and doesn’t believe in Hashem is obviously worse than someone who’s only issue is that they don’t believe in Hashem.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantIt’s ridiculous. If you feel like washing, use glass
April 17, 2013 9:43 pm at 9:43 pm in reply to: All Children Who Leave Our Community Should Pain Us Equally #947383π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantpba- translation into normal yiddish- Ich hab nisht kein anung vos der fudem zogt.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantI always wonder if every troll is called Joseph and the original Joseph is long gone… Doesn’t make swiet any less of a troll though.
no, this is the real deal.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantneed seminary help- and some of us succeeded. I have a knack for guessing other peoples passwords while forgetting my own… π
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantMake sure to let us know… I know donating money l’illui nishmas R’ Meir Baal Hanes always helps find lost items. That isn’t specific to who you donate it to. Maybe it helps for finding jobs too… never tried it.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantYeah. If you want to get a great job swiet, I suggest you put down that you have a phd in neurosurgery. That’s very well paying.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantMy grandmother uses a yahoo account. If you would get an email from her, would you really think there’s something wrong? She has that address for many years, and it’s not so easy to move over to a new one.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantAnyone want to join me on a Troll hunt? I’ve got the lemonade. If someone has a flashlight we’re all set.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantMorahRach- it does depend a lot on which field you want to go into. My parents are computer programmers, and college degrees don’t help so much as the field is always evolving. My parents spend a minimum of two hours a week keeping up with the latest updates. My sister on the other hand doesn’t want to be a programmer and is in college for a totally different field of study, where college does help.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantWhat are you eating? Apple pie?
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantjust my hapence- I meant to say that neither my mother nor my father has even a bachelors degree. My father actually doesn’t even have a high school diploma.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantI think that’s mainly because in the secular world college is considered a must. Therefore the really smart people end up with a college degree. Ultimately, the companies pay for brains, but being as most smart people go to college they only look at college grads. My parents are b”h successful because they have a very good reputation, and everyone knows that they are good in their field and trustworthy not to clock more hours than they’re doing. If SaysMe is willing to work hard to get a reputation through work experience she can take college easy and go slow.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantSaysMe- college does help people get jobs, but it’s only one factor in the overall picture. None of my parents have college degrees, and they get paid more than many of their colleagues that do have degrees. They have brains, and that’s what everyone wants. My mother even does government work sometimes.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantKanoi- I hit the tail end five years ago. Now I’m back in the middle.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantNote- I didn’t see the ad in question. According to the wording of the advertisement, they may be guaranteeing that the Rabbi’s tefilah will bring results… to them. You’re paying for the tefilah, bringing results to poor people in Bnei Brak.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantLuna Lovegood- if your a teacher and you hear the student praying that all teachers should die that they shouldn’t have finals, you might want to strongly disagree with her prayer… π
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantFrieda Friedman for children.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantI guess chas v’challila….
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantMargaret Peterson Haddix
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantICOT- on the buttton!
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantDaMoshe- If you eat the entire pan of sponge cake that might actually be the proper bracha. Regarding pizza we learned that one slice is considered a snack, and therefore the proper bracha is mezonos. If you’re eating two slices, than it’s considered a meal and the proper bracha is hamotzi. Now if someone is lazy to wash they can decide to eat one slice, make mezonos, eat it and make an al hamichya. Then a half hour later take another slice.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantWhat is my IQ? It takes a lot faster to ask you than filling out that whole book…
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantwhen you plug your phone into it’s charger but forget to plug the charger into the wall
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantIs this 12 year old too visually impaired to read? If not, buy a Kindle Paperwhite and load it up. There are tons of free books.
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantyanki613- what did you end up choosing? Make sure to let us know…
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantI guess he had enough of his third wife and is looking for a fourth… or is it fifth. It’s getting hard to keep track π
π΅ β¨ GamanitParticipantYou exist if you use the other definition of Golem as in a klutz, idiot, spaced out individual. If you want to be the man made man, no you don’t. No one in this generation would make one.
