Oomis- There’s a big difference between Mendel and Mark. Mendel is a nickname for Menachem. Mark is a gospel. Although I would not give Mendel without Menachem, Mendel on its own is still better than Mark.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantyitayningwut- except that Hashem is above time, so there’s no difference before the movie takes place and afterwards
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantFor a discussion on kol isha, see the Mishneh Berurah (75:17) where he initially states that kol isha of a p’nuyah (single girl) is muttar. He then modifies that to exclude Jewish girls (because of chezkas niddah) and non-Jewish girls (because of ervah). So only a Jewish single girl who is tahor would be permissible, and even then only without any thoughts of arayos. Basically, kol isha is assur.
So a kallah the day of the wedding before the chuppah would not be assur?
December 19, 2013 7:25 pm at 7:25 pm in reply to: Why Mental Retardation Should Be Called By Its Old Name #995179🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantrebyidd23- so we should go back to calling them idiots? Somehow that doesn’t sound right.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantWIY- so as long as she doesn’t run into anything too complicated she’s fine. As far as hilchos brachos are concerned by the way, girls tend to learn this better than boys. We memorized the brachos for over 200 foods before we turned ten. I still remember most, even ones I never ate.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantWIY- why no googling? Instead of calling, she can google.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantActually, if you’re a woman it’s more likely that you’re a potential victim for certain types of serial killers and therefore more justified in killing him first. It depends a lot on what type of serial killer this is and how many others are there- if it’s in middle of the night on a quiet street…
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantHappy CRanniversary 42!
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantCalling anyone a “roach rabbi” or a “mice rabbi” seems like a lack of kavod. R’ Shaya Keristierer was a big tzaddik, and animals were afraid of him. They do seem to be afraid of a picture of him as well, but he’s worthy of a spot on your wall as a gadol b’yisroel, not as a mouse chaser. My uncle has a large canvas print in his living room… no he does not have any mice problems.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantI had a teacher in first grade who would sometimes take shoes away from kids as a punishment. This was only done if a kid was being really unruly, and getting out of her seat several times during class. My teacher would tell her that she already had her recess during class, so she doesn’t have to have recess again. She would take the girls shoes to make sure that she doesn’t go out to the yard and the girl would get it back when recess was over. I remember being in an older grade and seeing that a girl went outside without her shoes… I found it to be really chutzpadig.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantCan’t you have a kid taste everything for you?
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantIt is hard for them to be prepared for a storm, since it’s a city with hills. You probably need chains on the tires in order to get traction… which people that live in cities have chains?
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantNone of these. If you only want a Bais Yaakov, maybe look into Seminar. It’s a Bais Yaakov, but a bit more relaxed.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantI like my subtitle. It warns people not to take me too seriously…
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantWIY- it’s generally played with two, but you can manage with one, it just won’t be as nice.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantI actually sometimes have it at times when I don’t want it to ring. Sometimes it turns out to have been a real call that I told myself was fake…
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantstreekgeek- I had it too for a while! I didn’t do anything and it just stopped…

Haiku is always weird
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantHaLeiVi- the harmonica is played with the mouth, but you’re right- it doesn’t use both hands. It would be impossible to talk while playing it though for obvious reasons.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantPrunes and coca cola? Everything else in there besides for these two I’ve heard before…

🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantgolfer +1. I 100% agree with everything you said.

🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantLittle Froggie- as I said, playing by rote. I know I can do it, because I was teaching someone else how to play and explaining what I was doing as I was doing it.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantHaLeivi- how many instruments require the use of only one hand? Most require two. I can play while talking if it’s a song I know well.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantShopping613- did you try using a different browser?
December 11, 2013 5:15 pm at 5:15 pm in reply to: [Not For Mods] Mods Who Change Thread Headings #992967🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantYou’re making me nervous to reply… what if a mod changes my words to his and pretends it was my post?
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantI grew up knowing that there was a holocaust, and that my great-grandparents lost their family members then. As I grew up, I was told more about what actually happened and the details, how my great-grandfather walked into the house to find everyone shot dead and the other stories. I can’t say I never had nightmares about it, but I’m still happy I grew up knowing about it and not surprise finding out when I was older. I didn’t hear the actual stories until I was about ten years old.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantTorah613Torah – then why did you tell me that you guessed it was me?
December 11, 2013 2:49 pm at 2:49 pm in reply to: NeutiquamErro's favorite thread with an obscure title #1147268🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantSmile E. Face- I forgot about the chocolate part :). I think you’re referring to Peter, but it wouldn’t work because Peter went to the Christians for altruistic reasons. Snape became a Death Eater for real, and only later repented and became a spy. He also never tried preventing others from becoming Death Eaters.

December 10, 2013 10:05 pm at 10:05 pm in reply to: NeutiquamErro's favorite thread with an obscure title #1147263🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantI don’t see the point in comparing Harry Potter to judaism. You don’t gain much. I don’t see the christian undertones either. It’s not quite like the Narnia series which is obviously christian. I do like comparing it to real life in some ways though. Dementors and boggarts are depression and the things we’re afraid of. You can fight depression by taking your happiest memory and letting it fill you up until there is no more room for anything else. You can fight fears by making them seem ridiculous to your own ears. I think that J.K. Rowling intended for people to view it like this. Note- I don’t mean that clinical depression can be cured with mental exercises, although perhaps it is. I don’t know. I’m referring to the kind of depression that almost everyone gets once in a while.
December 10, 2013 9:32 pm at 9:32 pm in reply to: Traumatizing Children with Horrific Tales #1006152🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantI’d say the story I found the most disgusting in the original was Sleeping Beauty. I find it strange how it was ever considered an appropriate story for little children.
December 10, 2013 8:57 pm at 8:57 pm in reply to: How can I get my idea patented, invented and trade registered? #993583🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantSyag Lchochma- excellent advice, just to add on to it- nowadays you can often print a model with an online 3D printing service. If you have an actual model it might be easier to sell the idea to a mass manufacturer.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantHeleivi- It’s probably easier to prepare the music and play it by rote and then you can actually talk and not just vocalize a sentence that’s in your head.
December 10, 2013 6:23 pm at 6:23 pm in reply to: What To Serve Shabbos Lunch Besides Chulent #992173🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantThe image I have in my head is a father holding a kid by the collar of his white shirt and forcing a spoon into his mouth… It’s so far from the reality I know that it’s comical. In my family, the foods served are the traditional shabbos foods. If you choose not to eat it, that’s your choice. There’s plenty of challah and dips…
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantSyag Lchochma- Thanks- I guess I’m not that bad at it. I do sometimes post and delete… sometimes I only realize that I gave away something when it’s a bit too late. I once almost gave away my address without realizing it- b”h I caught it.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantI don’t really mind if people who know me in real life figure out that it’s me. What would bother me is if someone never knew me would start stalking me. So far one poster here guessed who I was, as you can see in an old thread…
December 9, 2013 10:47 pm at 10:47 pm in reply to: What To Serve Shabbos Lunch Besides Chulent #992138🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantIf you’re not particularly looking for healthy options, deli roll is an option. You can put it inside the cholent pot to keep it warm as long as you wrap it well. If you’re not only talking about sides to cholent, make sure you serve lots of ice cream, brownies, and chocolate. That way people will actually enjoy the food.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantWhoever wants to know who I am can just come to the zoo. I’m the only monkey here with a typewriter.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantLAB- it’s a play on words… google it.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantDerech Agav- how is a woman to get to a wedding in the summer without walking down the street even for a bit?
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantthey’re flame semi-retarded
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantI have a kindle paperwhite, and I generally prefer it to a real book. The screen is like a real book, and I can make the font the size I like it. I can also read in bed without straining my eyes or waking up anyone else. I also like being able to take out books from the library without leaving the house or worrying about late fees.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantI decided to try it out… it’s really not bad. I think I’ll try it out again tomorrow in a different flavor.
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantTorah613Torah- you’ve got to give me the recipe… I always buy my cheerios, I didn’t know you can bake your own. 🙂
🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantHaLeiVi- +1
November 21, 2013 5:08 pm at 5:08 pm in reply to: Withholding a get vs. Withholding children #988303🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantnotasheep- excellent point. It’s sometimes the mother that isn’t capable of parenting, in which case the father will get full custody and the mother little to no visitation, or only supervised visitation. Somehow in those cases, the fathers are looked at as protecting their kids while when it’s the other way around she’s a monster. popa- you’re right as well!
