I don’t understand what you mean that you don’t get paid for coming in on Sundays. Do you get paid for staying late? I would come in on Sunday, especially if I have the whole week off. Show your boss that you care. Even if half of the cs department doesn’t come in, that looks good for you if you do.

I’m not sure if you’re talking about that salary the first year you are married or already have a few children. $50000 a year is nothing when you have children, tuition, a house… Even $150000 won’t cover these costs but at least you could attempt to live off of it. Go to college, get a degree, get a job and raise a family. You can also learn Torah while doIng all of those things as well.

Back to my original post: the reason that I don’t get this whole BTL thing is because my buddy took college as a joke and dropped out after the first year. It doesn’t make sense how he’s in Harvard law with this BTL. I doubt he wouldn’t gotten into Harvard law had he stayed in college.

Chevron: who said anything about letting children starve. It’s a parents responsibility to bring food to the table for their children. The 2 worst things for our generation are welfare and parents supporting their kids when they get married. There’s no such thing as the harder you work the more you will get. Why? Because welfare and parents supporting their married kids have killed the work ethic in my generation.

I had this argument with my Jewish coworker today. My argument was as follows: In America, we wake up early, work hard and provide for our families. Doesn’t it bother you that your hard earned money is going to the shvartzahs and lowlives who are too lazy to work. Your hard earned tax money goes to millions who are on welfare instead going into your pocket or improving our lives. Now let’s look at Israel. Doesn’t it bother you that your son has to put his life on the line while your son doesn’t? Doesn’t it bother you that your hard earned money goes to people who don’t work and take as much benefits as possible? I think it’s a legit argument.

I am a G-d fearing Jew. I believe that if the law of the land says to go to the army, you go. Especially if the country is very accommodating to your needs. They’re not drafting all chareidim. Also I try my hardest to listen to what the gedolim and I have the upmost respect for them, however you have to make decisions on your own, that’s why Hashem gave us bechira. There were gedolim who told their chassidim to stay in Poland and Germany during the war and boy were they wrong! Gedolim are human beings; they are not perfect. (a side not- didnt the gedolim ban the Internet?)

Wasn’t it Rabbi Akiva who said one should be the first to greet everyone. (not sure if it was him or not but some huge Gadol said it). Doesnt that mean we should say good shabbos/good morning to everyone since Rabbi Akiva said one should be the first one to greet everyone. Do you think he meant to only greet someone first if they are of the same gender and Jewish?? He meant everyone because in his day our religion wasn’t as judgmental. People actually loved their neighbor like themselves.

It’s so sad that women are so suppressed in our society because the men basically can’t control themselves. Instead of learning gemarah 20 hours a day and taking welfare, why don’t men work in the real world and learn NOT TO LOOK at women wearing “sweatshirts.”. All these bans are in place because men can’t control themselves. Why can’t we make bans for men so women can live a little freer. Men should wear special glasses so they can’t see that far in to the distance. Men shouldn’t be allowed to walk outside during the summer unless it’s for work. (I guess thr ban would apply to the winter as well because of all the sweatshirts women wear). Men can’t wear sandals just in case they are tempted to go the beach. Men can not have smartphones or access to Internet unless it’s for work.

It’s so funny bc frum Jews are so meticulous in how they observe Halacha, but what about STEALING?? It’s straight up stealing when they take money from the government when they don’t need it.

Tell her you love her. Try to talk to her and be more social with her and your spouse. Children look at their parents as role models. If their parents talk a lot then their child will naturally pick it up. Good luck

Morah Rach- you should ask your husband why he doesn’t ask his parents for money. Maybe he’s too proud to ask for handouts and tries to work really hard so he doesn’t need to ask. Maybe he asked for too much as a kid and got everything but now his parents put their foot down. It doesn’t seem right that a parent wouldnt want to help their only married child with a child of their own. What would happen if your husband sat your parents down and had a serious conversation with them? Maybe his parents don’t think he needs help. Hatlzacha to you and your family Morah Rach

I’ve celebrated thanksgiving every year of my life. I’m not really sure why Americans wouldn’t celebrate Thanksgiving. We’re thanking G-d for giving us freedom in America. I know we thank Him everyday, but today our country becomes one and thanks Him. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

The Torah says you must feed your animals and pets before you eat. So yes you are allows to own pets and are even encouraged to do so because you will get an extra mitzvah in feeding them before yourself.

Side note- if you plan on getting a bird or a fish, then don’t waste your time

I went to a yeshiva in Israel and most of the kids weren’t religious. It was 80% yeshivsh kids and 20% modern kids. The modern kids who weren’t religious were normal and respectful of the rabbis and Judaism. Most of the yeshivsh kids were totally off(drugs…) and were very disrespectufl to the rabbis. A lot of they guys including myself became more religious as the years went on. However I just want to state they I’d rather my kid be respectful and normal than unhappy and religious.

This whole story is sad. Did we as Jews stoop so low that we need to be charged a cover charge because we’re cheap? Whatever happened to the hard working Jew who makes a a good salary and could afford more than $25 at least to tip? We should be ashamed to how cheap we’ve become.

Bekitzur- Ill tell you what’s wrong with Obamas tax policies. He wants to heavily tax the rich and businesses so he can spend more on his social programs(poor people). If the rich and businesses are taxed heavily then they can’t hire people. If they can’t hire people the economy is going to continue into this recession and Obama will start taxing middle class people as well. Obama doesn’t have faith in economic growth. Romney on the other hand wants to cut taxes for everyone. If rich people and business aren’t taxed a lot they can hire people thereby creating more taxpayers. Romney is betting on the economy getting better.

I used to learn in yeshiva in the morning, work in the afternoon and go to school twice a week in the evening. It was too much for me, so I left yeshiva but still learned for an hour in the morning. You shouldn’t feel guilty about leaving yeshiva. It’s not meant for everyone. Good luck and remember everything will work itself out

What bothers me is that the majority of these Arab countries protested so they won’t have to live under a dictatorship, yet they vote for Islamic rule. Do the majority of Muslims want to live under Shariah law or under secular law? I’ve been studying this for years and it’s very hard to tell what they want.

Jews are voting for Obama bc they actually think he’s good for Israel. They actually think he is going to fix this economy. Jews have always voted democratic, especially in the 40’s so they could get a Jewish state. I feel ashamed when I hear that %68 of my people will be voting for that man. It’s sad, very sad.

The problem is that my friend always had trouble with his family and I think he just lost it. It’s really really sad, I feel for him. He’s been very insecure lately and I just can’t even hang out with him. I’ve spoken to our rebbeim, but he blames all his troubles on the rabbis who helped him become frum. He just won’t admit he’s done anything wrong. It’s sucha nebach case.

I don’t get what the big deal is for these guys to take off from learning full time for a couple of years to protect other Jews. There are 613 mitzvos, not just one mitzvah to learn. Perhaps the army could teach these bochrim to grow up a little and take responsibility instead of takin handouts from the government.
