oneofmany, black coffee does not require milk so someone who drinks black coffee could use an empty milk container for their coffee… really not worth the explanation.
commonsenseParticipanti know some very good girls who did not get into Nachlas so I don’t think it’s true that they accepted everyone. theobvious said that 7 out of 24 from her school got in, that is not close to everybody.
commonsenseParticipantI’m pretty sure they expect you to do so.
commonsenseParticipanttrak, I would say a large percentage of girls apply. not in chassideshe circles but in litvishe, yeshivishe, heimeshe etc.. circles, a lot of girls want to go.
commonsenseParticipanttheobvious, do you know how many from your school got in?
commonsenseParticipantapashatayid, from what I was told is that Oprah approached chabad and they referred her to the Ginsberg’s.
commonsenseParticipantI know for a fact that the Ginsberg’s do not allow cartoon characters based on non kosher animals into their house be it in book on clothing etc. it is very probable that they do not know who Mickey Mouse is. I do not think the children have an idea that there is such a place such as disney land.
February 14, 2012 5:52 am at 5:52 am in reply to: Bar Mitzvah idea – save money and way better #851318commonsenseParticipantalthough I am not against the idea I don’t think the bar mitzvah boy would agree with you that it is better for him (having heard from bar mitzvah boys themselves.)
commonsenseParticipantwatch the sales. I got a new laptop by staples last year for about $350 with 4gb ram and either 320 or 500 gb hard drive, you can get more now for about the same money or a drop less for even less money and they are brand new not refurb.(all brand names)
February 2, 2012 12:53 am at 12:53 am in reply to: infertility issues/the blessing of children #918710commonsenseParticipantbpt, if you’re not going through it, or are the type of person who doesn’t really want a large family then you can’t understand it, and you are lucky. It is a constant and I do mean a day by day minute by minute avodah of working on being “sameach b’chelko” which is easy to say but not so easy to do when you really don’t feel it. It is not the hardest nisayon, I know that there are many worse things, but it is hard on a personal level to the people going through it, so maybe if you are lucky enough to not have this nisayon, at least keep your thoughts to yourself.

I am incredibly sad at his petirah. I truly think there is so much we can learn from him. He did not have much in his life in any way that most of us count, yet he never seemed unhappy or angry. He seemed to be a true mekabel that Hashem chooses our lots in life and he just carried on making the best of what he could. I am sure that he lived his life’s tafkid to the fullest and that his makom in Gan Eden is right next to the Kisei Hakovod. Yehi Zichro Baruch.
commonsenseParticipanttry counterforce.
commonsenseParticipanthey,it makes sense. we are taught “Hadoros holchos u’mismatos”. so it would stand to reason that each generation is somewhat less than the one before.
commonsenseParticipantwe had the same problem. we learned to ask for medicine that the child liked as long as it addressed the issue. when we had no choice, we would give it together with ice cream. a drop of medicine on the spoon together with a drop of medicine and slowly the whole dose went down. it worked every time.
commonsenseParticipantTo me hearing all the opinions and comments even the many I disagree with is, an eye opener to the fact that Hashem made us all different and that not everyone thinks like I do. It helps me remember this and keep my mouth closed when I am dealing with people in real life.
January 22, 2012 5:40 am at 5:40 am in reply to: Slow Children ! (Serious people – stay out) #845430commonsenseParticipantlove this thread!!! thanx!
commonsenseParticipantthey sell omega 3 in liquid form for and I believe chewables for kids, just check the dosage and adjust for adults. you can get small prenatal and iron pills that are easier to swallow.
commonsenseParticipanti don’t know if they have such big houses, 17-20 bedrooms is a lot. look in the classifieds of the jewish papers, they advertise there. if you want to travel a little you could rent a few bungalows in highland park colony or go to the raleigh hotel in the country.
commonsenseParticipantthere are many very large nice homes in Monsey that you can rent out.
commonsenseParticipantI’m with smartcookie! great choices
commonsenseParticipantgoogle sasson vsimcha matchmaker list, it is a a list of shadchanim with details of the clientele they have
commonsenseParticipantWhy would any frum jew even discuss anything he does? he is certainly no one to admire and the less said the better!
commonsenseParticipanttry Chaim Berlin, the food there is the best! otherwise you have Az Yashir, Kamenitz, Mercaz Hasimcha and I am sure there are many more.
commonsenseParticipantare you for real?! in a perfect world maybe someone would have such a decision to make. in the real world appreciation does not pay bills and you are talking a huge difference in salary. grin and bear it and smile as you pay your bills.
January 1, 2012 1:47 am at 1:47 am in reply to: Rav Moshe Blau-Are these Not Jewish Children #840395commonsenseParticipantWow!!!!! This should be posted in every shul and yeshiva!
commonsenseParticipantprobably not a very smart thing to do. Wait until the infection goes away, wash the earring back with alcohol to kill germs and only wear the earrings for a few hours at a time. never sleep in them!
commonsenseParticipantthey are just starting interviews in the NY area.
commonsenseParticipantCan anyone tell me about The Cheder?
commonsenseParticipantwhatisleft, they haven’t even had their interviews yet, so for a while.
commonsenseParticipantI am pretty much a straight shooter and get very upset about people who lie to get on programs, but if you qualify legitimately then there is no reason you should not get it. The programs are there for those who need it and should be used by those people.
To heimishe mom, sorry but I don’t think his moving in with his family is a good idea. Single adults need to live as adults with an adults responsibilities. Living at home is usually not a good idea for the single or for the family. Any way if he was married would you tell him to move into his family with his wife? So why should he do so because he is single?
commonsenseParticipantwhy dafka a bors? There are many nice cheaper hats available.
commonsenseParticipantmod-42, I don’t think many people caught that. Ha ha.
commonsenseParticipantWhen everyone gets so bothered by what everyone else does when posting. You all have the power to close any thread you don’t like and not read it or participate in it. Stop getting so bothered about stupidities.
When posters get so caught up in the minutiae of other posts. So what if every word is not typed perfectly. We are all typing fast and some of us are not perfect typists and will make typos or have grammatical errors. If you can understand what the poster is saying, good enough! This is not an English class, it’s an informal forum and posters shouldn’t have to worry about the technical correctness of their posts.
commonsenseParticipanton the corner of 14th and 52nd there is a large shul Shomrei Emunah that has a nice program that gives pizza and prizes. It usually starts at 7 PM
December 22, 2011 10:01 am at 10:01 am in reply to: The Great Potato Latke vs Hamantaschen Debate —> VOTING IS CLOSED <— #933088commonsenseParticipantif you’re voting for hamantaschen, you just haven’t had good latkes. when you’ve had good latkes you will know that there is no comparison. a hamantasch is just a cookie, a latke is wow!
commonsenseParticipantI am sure there is a closer minyan than Ave J mens shoes. there are a ton of shuls in the neighborhood. There is a shul on Bedford, i think bt. I and J, there is a shul on the corner of j and 28th, J and 29th, and two on J bt 29th and Nostrand. I think there is one on J and Bedford. there are many more. there are also a few yeshivos in the neighborhood, such as Veretsky, Boston, and Rabbi Avigdor Miller’s zatza”l.
commonsenseParticipantfirst of all, no is complaining about the video or the song they are complaining that these boys were performing them on television. This song is geared to a religious audience because YBC sell pretty exclusively to the frum world and usually does not try to market to the outside world.
Personally I highly agree with all those who think it was inappropriate to have these yiddeshe neshomalach perform on live TV.
December 12, 2011 2:06 am at 2:06 am in reply to: tiferes vs. hadar……Yeshivish/academic????? #837880commonsenseParticipantare all the girl’s fathers Rabbeim? I know of a number of girls who are applying whose fathers are regular working folk, but very frum.
commonsenseParticipantSam2, kosher food might not be a huge problem but how about a minyan? and if he has kids, other jews to be around for positive influences. there is much more to where you live than just the availability of kosher food.
commonsenseParticipantfirst, relax. don’t make it a pressure to do SOMETHING. Kids are usually very happy to stay at home and play. If you feel like you need to get out then go on a short outing that does not need a ton of preparation. Don’t set yourself unrealistic goals of housekeeping because it is basically impossible to get anything done while little kids are around. Try to enjoy your kids and do the housework later when your husband is around to help. Maybe go visit a friend who also has little kids so you can both relax and let the kids play.
commonsenseParticipanton 16th and 41st there is the Living Torah museum, otherwise not much to see except shopping. If you are male you can go into one of the many yeshivos in the area and learn if you are so inclined.
commonsenseParticipantMazel Tov!
commonsenseParticipantto all those who are responding as if $150K is a lot of money, think again. I am sure he means 150K on the books which comes out to about 90K after taxes. that’s the amount he actually has to spend. now figure about 24K on mortgage. 15K on tuition he is already down to 50K to live on. believe it or not that is not so much money. every expense has gone up. gas, electricity, insurance, water, food, clothing, phone etc.. it adds up very quickly. realize that trim cannot get any gov’t help such as heap and never gets a break in the frum world because he makes “so much” money. If trim would come to your simcha and give a very minimal gift you would think he is being cheap because he has a “good parnasa” every mossad that he or his wife have had or have an affiliation with expect support because they make “so much” money. At the end of the day they are left with very little. People who don’t make very much but get every program and also help and breaks from within the frum community actually seem to have it easier.
November 22, 2011 1:27 am at 1:27 am in reply to: Any good segulah for helping the childless? #829325commonsenseParticipanti know one of the founders of A Time and she is not chassidish. a person does not need to be chassidish to go to A time.
commonsenseParticipantzahavasdad, i know why the day is termed black friday and do not consider shopping a non jewish activity. the reason the stores go into the black on that specific day every year is because that is traditionally the day to start holiday shopping. most stores have the holiday music and decorations and sometimes workers in costume during the black friday shopping.
commonsenseParticipantdunno, staples has a decent computer for $350 now until Wed. they are also running a special of 15% off everything you can fit into a bag they give you. if they let you combine the two you can get the computer for about $300 now before black friday.
commonsenseParticipantYW-Band toys r us has 1 for $130 with a $30 gift card. also there is a $10 gift card with $75 purchase that might apply as well. this is not on black friday, it is now until Wed.
Zahavasdad, Black friday is traditionally the day to start shopping for the big gift holiday which is why black friday is not exactly a jewish concept. While i see no problem with us taking advantage of the great sales, I don’t think it’s so appropriate for jewish stores to call their sales black friday sales.

If you think a mistake has been made, contact this site's a #828495commonsenseParticipantI don’t understand why the same IP address can’t get more than one username. Often there is more than one person using the same ip address and want different usernames. Many times people here get hysterical if one user seems to be different people when there are in fact more than one person using the some username because YWN doesn’t allow more than one.
