May 29, 2011 1:22 am at 1:22 am in reply to: HAPPY 5th BIRTHDAY TO YESHIVA WORLD NEWS ?????!!! #772014Ken ZaynMemberHappy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday Yeshiva World News
Happy Birthday to you
To what address can we deliver a present and pick up a piece of birthday cake?
Ken ZaynMemberSatmar Chasidim in America do make bonfires
Satmar Chassidim and others in England also do but at the END of lag baomer ie soon before shkia (whatever shkia is).
Is one allowed to dance holding his ears?
Cant see any reason not to though its far more comfortable to dance holding hands
Ken ZaynMemberI heard that although the mishna berura says that most poskim hold you should usually say laomer, but on lag baomer when it is the yahrzeit of the Rema, out of kavod for him we call the day lag baomer which is according his opinion
Ken ZaynMemberI had some sleeping tablets. On the label it says “Warning! May make you drowsy!!!”
Ken ZaynMemberLOL to you all ? ? ?
Ken ZaynMemberMarmite!
Ken ZaynMemberThe Israelis and Arabs realised that, if they continued fighting, they would someday end up destroying the whole world. So, they decided to settle their dispute with an ancient practice: a duel of two, like David and Goliath. This “duel” would be a dog fight.
The negotiators agreed each side would take 5 years to develop the best fighting dog they could. The dog that won the fight would earn its people the right to rule the disputed areas. The losing side would have to lay down its arms for good.
The Arabs found the biggest, meanest Dobermans and Rottweilers in the world. They bred them together and then crossed their offspring with the meanest Siberian wolves.
They selected only the biggest, strongest puppy of each litter, fed it the best food and killed all the other puppies. They used steroids and trainers in their quest for the perfect killing machine. After the 5 years were up, they had a dog that needed steel prison bars on its cage. Only expert trainers could handle this incredibly nasty and ferocious beast.
When the day of the big dog-fight finally arrived, the Israelis showed up with a very strange-looking animal, a Dachshund that was 10 feet long!
Everyone at the dogfight arena felt sorry for the Israelis. No one there seriously thought this weird, odd-looking animal stood any chance against the growling beast over in the Arab camp. All the bookies took one look and predicted that the Arab dog would win in less than a minute.
As the cages were opened, the Dachshund slowly waddled toward the center of the ring.
The Arab dog leaped from its cage and charged the giant wiener-dog. As he got to within an inch of the Israeli dog, the Dachshund opened its jaws and swallowed the Arab beast whole in one bite. There was nothing left but a small puff of fur from the Arab killer dog’s tail floating to the ground.
The stunned crowd of international observers, bookies and media personnel let out a collective gasp of disbelief and surprise.
The Arabs approached the Israelis, muttering and shaking their heads in disbelief. “We do not understand,” said their leader, “Our top scientists and breeders worked for 5 long years with the meanest, biggest Dobermans, Rottweilers and Siberian wolves, and they developed an incredible killing machine of a dog!”
The Israelis replied. “Well, for 5 years, we have had a team of Jewish plastic surgeons from Boca Raton working to make an alligator look like a Dachshund.”
Ken ZaynMemberWhen you say most people say paysach, you mean only when talking about the yomtov paysach. When reading the word in a siddur, machzor or chumash etc then almost all ashkenaz non chassidic readers will say pesach eg kol shelo omru shelosha devarim eilu bapesach… V’eilu heim… Pesach, matzo, maror.
Has anyone ever seen the word pesach with a tzeirei under the letter Pay instead of the usual segol? This would explain both the litvish paysach and the chassidic pie-sach.
Ken ZaynMemberTruly sad. Hope you bochurim tried to sing and make it leibedig to improve the situation.
How did she break her foot? (You probably mean hurt or twisted but not actually broken cos if it was broken she would have needed hospital treatment). Please tell us was she skipping which is very dangerous in high heels and a kallah dress and has caused several kallahs to break a foot? If yes then kallahs must be warned not to try it at their chasuna because it is just too dangerous! Dont risk the most beautiful day of your life! If your friends start turning a rope for you to jump just move away! Dont do it!!
Ken ZaynMemberShticky lol rotf. Keep it up (especially as you have 2 hands to type with!)
Ken ZaynMemberAll the people who say they dont eat factory made things and do everything themselves like squeezing orange juice etc. let me ask you – do you buy or make your pesach matzo and wine? Cos either you buy or you make. You cant buy matzos and wine and claim not to eat mass produced food.
Someone told me they brok but their sons in law dont so their married daughters wont come to them for pesach unless they agree not to brok. He said to me with a sigh that he cant have both… its either the maidelech or the kneidlech!
Ken ZaynMember????? ???! ? ????-????-? ?????!
Kilobear if purim’s not that big in your world then why are you only posting till peerim?
Ken ZaynMemberWho cares: I would never intentionally write something that I thought would really bother somebody else. You didnt even make a spelling mistake, only a simple typing error which anyone can do. Happens the whole time. So I didnt think it was so bad to highlight it. My post wouldnt have got through had it been so bad. So dont take it to heart. I only thought that with a name like who cares and after writing an OP like you did then you obviously have a thick skin and dont mind things being written here that will shtech other posters. But THANX for being mochel me and a hippy poorim to you too and I hope all the posters that felt shteched by your OP will be mochel you too, cos when I read it I felt angry even though I rarely post here. People in glasss houses shouldnt …
Ken ZaynMemberThe boys in sons cheder are all dressing up as super mario this year. There will be tons of marios running all over. Really cute!
Ken ZaynMemberMmm. That was nice. Slurp. You see, I fasted all day even though I work, but here in England the fast finished at 7.00pm which was an hour ago so i’m after maariv and food by now. Yum! The yankees have another few hours to go. Dont worry, you’ll catch up soon! Use your time wisely and daven well. Its a very special day for tefilla.
Ken ZaynMemberI shouldnt even respond to this garbage thread. If we all liked the exact same things, life would be boring. There’d be only one thread here on the one topic, only one flavor of candy, one type of chocolate, only one sort of cake, one model and color of car, one destination for vacations, one brand of whiskey, one style of suit and coat for men (some would say there is this already!). Diversity is the spice of life. So some posts you will like while others wont interest you. Thats life. Unless you’re interested in men+women+teens+older people’s topics and ideas. As for good posts, that up to you!!
And if you dont know “the difeerence between the cr and a waste basket” then you need spelling lessons, (I can suggest ecli… No forget it!) and by the way your thread just ended up in the wrong of those 2 places!
Ken ZaynMemberThank you for the link, mike.
Genug that’s an amazing and powerful piece and I agree 100%. Did you write it yourself otherwise where did you copy it from? The pasuk says Hashem yilachem lachem v’atem tacharishun, that H’ will fight for us, as long as we are silent when we are supposed to be ie during davening, say the meforshim. So guys come on! Its an emergency and in an emergency, REMEMBER SOS!
Ken ZaynMember???? ??? ??? ???? ????? ???”? ?? ?????? ?????? ???? ?? ??? ????
Ken ZaynMemberWell meaning busy body, I see that you really live up to your name. This time i, or really I, (otherwise some posters will shout at me) dont mind, for who doesnt like a yenta! I dont even mind that you misspelt my name when you submitted my mishnaic source! Please post back when you see a reply from the rabbi. Cheers! Thanks!
Ken ZaynMemberSo noitallmr is really a doesntnoitallmr. He thinks he’s the only uk poster here. Aha! Do I have news for you! There’s actually quite a few of us here that I know of!! So let me go through my video and photos of purim 2 yrs ago cos I think I remember seeing a Mr Bean. Who was it again? Oh yes. I think I’ve got it now! Wow. Ok. I know you havent posted here very often recently. You’re probably like me, reading through but not posting too often. Nevertheless we are here. So hi!!
The funniest costume I ever saw was a man on horseback. But it was done in such a way that only when you got right close up did you realise that the rider was a fake and the real guy was actually the front legs and the horse’s head! It was phenomenal. Everyone stood there talking to the manequin until they realised he wasnt real and then they began looking for the real guy until the horse began speaking!
Ken ZaynMemberwellmeaning busybody: There are actually several references to Tehillim for example in :??? ???? ??? it says ?????? ?? ?????? ??? ???? ?????… Even in ?????? in ???? ???? ??? ?? ???? ?? it says ??? ???? ???? ????? ?? ??? ??? ??? ?????
Rav Dunner ztz”l of London was a bokee in these things. He was asked regarding the name yerucham which a couple wanted to use when the true name as it appears in nach is yerocham. He told them that although that was strictly true, but because through the years generations had used the name as yerucham, it should not be changed but kept that way!
Ken ZaynMemberI have a picture of you, I think its very nice
I hung it in my attic, to scare away the mice
Ken ZaynMemberTry to find out from the relatively new Gateshead Rov’s family who recently moved to gateshead from the states to take up his position. They can compare life there for you. I think his name is Rabbi Zimmerman
Ken ZaynMemberwow u really are a human spel cheker
So why hasnt she commented on your post…
February 6, 2011 9:03 am at 9:03 am in reply to: How Many Seconds After Havdalah Did YOU Check In? #879051Ken ZaynMemberDZ Thats exactly the point. The UK is 5 hours ahead of NY. When shabbos begins here in England there’s still 5 hours of posting to come before its shabbos in NY. So after shabbos here I log in to catch up on those posts. And whatever we post here until shabbos goes out for you is the slew that eclipse sees when she logs in after her havdalla. And Israel is 2 hours later than the UK so thats 7 hours later than NY
Ken ZaynMemberHonorable Mod! I would be really grateful for a cool subtitle under my name! Is the offer still open? Ken zayn. Efshar takka!
Ken ZaynMember‘chayavs einikel’ just came from heaven
She was created February 2, 2011
So her efforts we should applaud
Unless she is a fraud
Which wont make a good impression
She claims to be Tipsey’s grandchild
But I think thats a bit wild
You made it up, why sir?
Its just a bubba maaser
To close to your bubby your work is styled
February 1, 2011 7:04 pm at 7:04 pm in reply to: Shavers- Women certainly can't understand this #735239Ken ZaynMemberNote re shavers:
Lift and cut could be non-kosher ie cut too short. My roommate in yeshiva took a new shaver to a rav who tested it on the back of his hand and said its ok. But another bachur who purchased the identical shaver was told by the same rav that its not kosher. The rav said EACH SHAVERNEEDS TESTING SEPARATELY!!
Ken ZaynMemberI havent noticed dr pepper or minyan gal for a while. If i go into very old threads eg over a year old, there’s a whole bunch of posters that i’ve never heard of. Where are they?
Ken ZaynMemberPatients with illnesses even terminal ones have a much better survival rate if they are in a happy and relaxed state and frame of mind. Those with loved ones around them have been found to have the mental strength to fight their ailment. So laughter really is the best medicine!
Conversely, chazal say “tzchok v’kalus rosh motzi’in es ha’adam min ha’olam”. There is a world of a difference between tzchok or kalus rosh which is making fun, and laughter.
Ken ZaynMemberThis is exactly why rabonim is israel have banned texts. Its because there’s been too many cases there between not only yeshiva bochurim and seminary girls but also r”l between married men and married women. Experience has unfortunately shown time after time that there are things that would never be spoken in our circles between the 2 genders, but that inhibition is much less prevalent by texting, and terrible situations follow too quickly. Also texting is much more discreet and can take place in a room full of ppl with noone able to overhear and follow the conversation
Ken ZaynMemberDaas yochid thanx tons for that dvar torah it was very very beautiful and explained why reb yishmael’s mother was happy to call her son yishmael. It doesnt explain why nobody else does!
What I also found amazing was that you said he gave that dvar torah cos there was no sefer available only a siddur; as if reb yonasan eibeshutz who knew shas & poskim by heart needed a sefer to look in! He was just such an anav!
Ken ZaynMemberI think all you posters are fest
your rhyming is really the best
from what you have said
you are all purebred
and are quite ahead of the rest
this is a real good education
which sets down a solid foundation
it does reflect
my utmost respect
to authors of limerick formation
whoever in this thread takes part
they must be exceedingly smart
it is my position
to give recognition
to those who write in from the heart
Ken ZaynMemberIts about time there was a mens thread. You dont know if i’m a man or not from my name so i’m happy to post and you wont know. Mod 80 is also genderless or of indiscriminate gender and you havent stopped him/her either. In fact from most posters names we dont have a clue what gender they are. We’ll have to judge from the content of their posts so lets see… Um… Derech and mod 80… Knitting??? Yep as I suspected, both females. you’ve definitely both got to leave this discussion and go join dunno in the painted nails thread, otherwise known (for some strange reason) as a MANicure
Ken ZaynMemberCIL Who are you writing to and what are you recovering from. You didnt make yourself clear
Ken ZaynMemberI’m fairly new. Joined in November so I’m 2-3 months old, (but didnt have a pidyon haben cos I’m not the oldest child in my family :> ). I read often but havent posted often. You may have seen my name from time to time. If the CR had a column of hits for each thread you’d see me much more often.
Ken ZaynMember… the children of the shevatim were named for specific events in their life
So were the Avos and shevatim themselves all named after specific events yet we use their names regularly. Yitzchok because of metzachek, yakov cos he was holding on eisav’s heel, and the shevatim’s names are all explained in the pesukim. I dont know what makes some names popular while others arent.
Ken ZaynMemberExactly SG, thats what I meant
Ken ZaynMemberDaas Yochid
Oh. That’s a shame! What did he do instead?
Come on we’re all desperate to from you as soon as you possibly can.
Ken ZaynMembermost posts here are started by the same person! Anyway the thread is determined by the subsequent posters, not the opening post
Ken ZaynMemberdaas yochid;
you won. Your son lost. Too bad. Was he a bad looser?
Maybe he ran to another family member who may have backed him up against hs dad?
Ken ZaynMember“London is the only real town?”
London is a city, actually. It is one of the most expensive cities in the world. (Has to be,,, my wife’s from there!)
London is the capital of England and the United Kingdom, the largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom and the largest urban zone in the European Union by most measures.
It is the world’s largest financial centre alongside New York, has the largest city GDP in Europe and is home to the headquarters of more than 100 of Europe’s 500 largest companies.
It is the most visited city in the world. London’s five international airports make its airspace the busiest of any urban centre worldwide and London Heathrow is the world’s busiest airport by number of international passengers .
London has been a major settlement for two millennia, its history going back to its founding by the Romans, who called it Londinium.
London’s ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its square-mile mediaeval boundaries. Since at least the 19th century, the name London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core.
London is a leading global city, with strengths in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transport all contributing to its prominence.
London’s 43 universities form the largest concentration of higher education institutions in Europe. In 2012 London will become the first city to host the Summer Olympics three times.
London has a diverse range of peoples, cultures and religions, and more than 300 languages are spoken within its boundaries.
In July 2007 it had an official population of 7,556,900 within the boundaries of Greater London, making it the most populous municipality in the European Union. The Greater London Urban Area is the second largest in the EU with a population of 8,278,251, while London’s metropolitan area is the largest in the EU with an estimated total population of between 12 million and 14 million.
[28] and the most extensive after the Shanghai Metro.
Ken ZaynMember“see how important an apostrophe can be!”…
A man was waiting for a bus and noticed across the street was a grocery store. The name accross the store was John’s Groceries’ Fruits’ & Vegetables’
He must have been a relative of haifagirl cos he couldnt control himself. He marched across, picked out a selection of groceries and while paying for them pointed out the glaring poor grammar of the store name.
The storekeeper smiled and said have you any idea how much business I make from people waiting at that bus stop!
Ken ZaynMemberIts actually a very interesting subject – setting a false time when you know the real time, and yet for many people, it works!
There must be a pschychological reason why. Is it like when you know the time cos you just looked, and someone asks you the time, you just gotta check your watch again before answering!!!
I remember the Kaminitzer Mashgiach, Rav Moshe Aron Stern zatzal, noting that while he always sees clocks in every beis hamedrash, he rarely sees one in a yeshiva dining room! His point was that there are times when you need a clock, and times that you dont eg cos you’re enjoying yourself so time has less meaning.
Any other thoughts on this?
Ken ZaynMemberYossi z.
Shalom aleichem to you. Havent heard from you for a while.
my friend (who I mentioned before) is (working on) putting out a cd. I hopefully will not be long in following myself
Oh, I knew there had to be a good reason for you doing techiyas hamesim on a long dead year old thread!
Hatzlocha on the cd. Whens the ETA?
Ken ZaynMemberMod 80, How about trying other variations of the same thing eg yishtabach sh’moi, or loib der eibishter etc etc.
Who can think of any others?
Ken ZaynMemberI am not English at all. Lived here for yrs.
I dont know where you refer to as here , but it implies that you werent born where you live now. So where were you born, where are you now, where were you inbetween, and how do you know so well how the English speak?
Ken ZaynMemberSac: Yes this is NOT a NY only site. Jews do exist also outside of NY and even outside of USA. Posters on YWN also come from Israel, Australia, South Africe and even good old England where I (and perhaps ‘not I’…) come from!
Yes, ‘ha ha ha ha’ is correct that thats how we speak (we as in the ones who started the language that you yanks have TRIED to copy).
Maybe ‘ha ha ha ha’ also happens to come from England?
Ken ZaynMemberAlso Hoover (vacuum cleaner) and zipper (the thing you use to close your sweater) come to mind. There are more. I’ll post them if I remember them
