February 24, 2012 11:36 am at 11:36 am in reply to: What country besides US and UK are you from? #853558Ken ZaynMember
@TCG Thanks for clearing that up for me. It only occurred to me as I was writing it. I suppose just as Americans come from the United states of america but although they can either say they are from the united states or from america even though they are americans but not united statesians, the same is true of UK residents who are from the united kingdom of great britain and ireland but are british or irish but not united kingdomists.
Now clear this one up: you are not a real gatesheader as you are not british born. Nor are you a real chossid otherwise you would not live in gateshead. So what’s pshat in the (real) chassidishe gatesheader?
February 24, 2012 1:00 am at 1:00 am in reply to: 49.5% of Americans dont pay any income tax #853739Ken ZaynMember49.5% of Americans are below standard at mathematics. And the remainder 63.7% are only marginally better.
February 23, 2012 9:35 pm at 9:35 pm in reply to: What country besides US and UK are you from? #853552Ken ZaynMemberKen Zayn is a European, United Kingdomite, British English Jew. Or actually a Jewish English British UKite European. (What is the correct term for a citizen of the United Kingdom? I dont think there is one.)
And you?

I re-read my post before sending it and realised that I was setting myself up for this but I still sent it. Lol. Anyway NYC is in a much worse state! 🙂

February 22, 2012 8:29 pm at 8:29 pm in reply to: What country besides US and UK are you from? #853527Ken ZaynMemberThere used to be posters from Australia and I know there are several from Israel. Are there any current posters from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Russia, Hong Kong or elsewhere in Europe like Antwerp, Brussels, Vienna, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Spain, Italy, Ireland etc?
I thought that after the American and British posters thread I’d ask if there are posters from any other countries.
Serious answers please.
February 22, 2012 7:09 pm at 7:09 pm in reply to: What country besides US and UK are you from? #853523Ken ZaynMemberOh? Last time I asked you where you were born you said in Consequential…
Ken ZaynMemberI said Yom Shlishi
Ken ZaynMemberMr British Guy is, as always, really chilled and is not chas vsholom yank bashing. I was responding to a poster (who happens to claim to be American) who said we can tell Americans by their bad grammar. I only emphasised her point by pointing out to her some grammatical errors that she had made. Big Deal! Grammatical or spelling errors do not bother me; you get immune to it nowadays even if it does. Live and let live, and if posters write right or write wrong (or to bring it up to date whether the posters who type here are your type or not your type), just learn from your great president that you can even get the year totally wrong, (by signing 2008 instead of 2011) and still (pretend to) be president.
Ken ZaynMembermy spelling was just fine. It was my grammar that I didn’t check correctly before I send it
I wrote that we can tell that you’re American by your spelling and lack of grammar. Spelling the USA way not the original UK way (nothing intrinsically wrong with that) but lack of grammar as pointed out above or as in “before I send it” rather than “before I sent it” which makes what you wrote incorrect even in American. (Haifagirl are you with me?)
Ken ZaynMemberI’m proud to be an AMERICAN!… its because we american’s dont need to prove that we dominate- (you can kind of tell just by the spelling and lack of grammar whose american and whose not
Yes we can tell you’re american by YOUR spelling and lack of grammar. “its because” should have been “it’s because” where the ‘s indicates the missing letter i. “we american’s” should have been “we americans”. “whose american and whose not” should have been “who’s american and who’s not”. Who’s is a contraction for who is or who has eg who’s that man who stood on my hat. Whose refers to something belonging to or associated with eg the man whose hat it was became angry.
After almost 250 years, you still can’t speak the language properly!!
Ken ZaynMemberhockaroundtheclock: so sorry but the world wide web is not an american meshigas; it was invented by a brit (like most great things), a computer scientist named tim berners-lee
There, that should upset the apple cart!

Doesnt seem as if there’s too many of them…
Ken ZaynMemberWhat do you think of this from the inspiring quotes thread:
Imagine how differently we would run our lives if we knew that we will only wake up tomorrow with the things that we had thanked Hashem for today…
Ken ZaynMemberSeems the mods do not want a tickled pink panther loose in the CR 🙁
Ken ZaynMemberStart with Obama.
Doswin you did not write any of your own but by starting this thread you imply there are many out there. And welcome to your new screenname
Ken ZaynMemberAt the Olympics if they bring in a competition on interfering my mother in law will for sure win the top gold meddle
February 16, 2012 8:33 am at 8:33 am in reply to: Chasidim that think you don't know yiddish #851711Ken ZaynMemberInteresting. I thought yiddish was only german with a little hebrew. Which other languages are mixed in? Please give examples. I suppose the word kasha, or actually kushya, is also aramaic and I did not even realise. Any others?
Ken ZaynMemberPolice Missing Person News Bulletin: If anyone has seen a white female, approximately five and a half feet in height, answering to the name arfws, who is usually rushing about with a gleam in her eye, scissors in her hand and a husband in her wake, would they please contact their nearest precinct immediately. She has gone uncharacteristicly quiet. Even her profile has gone missing or have i typed it wrongly? http://theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/profile/always-runs-with-scissors-fast
Ken ZaynMemberHow about giving Panther the sub “Tickled Pink”…
February 15, 2012 10:53 pm at 10:53 pm in reply to: Chasidim that think you don't know yiddish #851707Ken ZaynMembernot more and not less, the chovos halevavos… ‘nisht mer nisht venig’ doesn’t translate well into english
How about ‘it was written by no less than the chovos halevavos’?
Agav, have you ever tried speaking Yiddish to Gerrer chassidim in Israel? They look at you as if you have fallen off the moon! (Agav, is agav Yiddish or Hebrew?)
Ken ZaynMemberPeeking? That’s something to do with China, right?
Lol. Actually its no longer known as Peeking. It is called Beijing now.
Ken ZaynMemberDont get so worked up. If MBD is the King of Jewish music and Jo Amar is the Sultan of Jewish music then that makes Lipa the Rebbe (Rebel?) of Jewish music. Abi meleibt.

Ken ZaynMemberImagine how differently we would run our lives if we knew that we will only wake up tomorrow with the things that we had thanked Hashem for today…
February 9, 2012 6:37 pm at 6:37 pm in reply to: Do you still get childish impulses to do silly things? #1060068Ken ZaynMemberHow about stuff like these…
Hire a baby-sitter and tell her that both of your kids (you only have one) are asleep in bed. When you get back, ask where your other kid is. Demand a discount.
Only do on a good friend – Offer a good amount of money for breaking 3 eggs on his/her head. If the person accepts, use just 2 eggs and say you have no more, and then you won’t have to pay! (Make sure you don’t hurt that person and that the person won’t see it as a stupid and mean joke).
Ken ZaynMemberBlinky very sweet but you only wrote 6 of the days of the week. The one you missed out you could have called Frei day (as in a frei yid)
Ken ZaynMemberAbbreviations must be viewed in the context or surroundings of where it is used. So for example in the coffee room DME would stand for Dolt and Mildly Eccentric

Ken ZaynMemberSome hold the meal must begin by shkia, some hold by half an hour before nacht, some even later. Some rebbes have their own zmanim and only begin long, long after our nacht which is why there are many photos of shaleshedis tishen.
Ken ZaynMemberAnthropomorphic
onomatopoeia

Ken ZaynMemberRegarding my kasha (which is at the end of page 1 of this thread) on the pasuk and rashi in vayetzei 31,33 – the answer seems to be as follows. We say ein mukdam umuchar batorah does not apply within one pasuk but the torah is not giving us the chronological order in which lavan searched the tents but in order of chashivus. So it says “lavan went to the tent of rachel AND the tent of leah AND the amahos”. But not in that order, as proven from the remainder of the pasuk “and he went out of leah’s tent and went to rachel’s tent”, not the amahos.
Rashi was also bothered by this so he points out to us that he searched rachel for a second time BEFORE going to the amahos ie its not chronological order.
Ken ZaynMemberwanderingchana your first word is awesome! No wonder its not in the dictionary – it would fill 3 pages!
supergirl613 lol. That sounds quite attrocious! So you cant complain if I include
“well I’ll be Jiggered”
from Little Lord Sauntleroy
Ken ZaynMemberThere is a Kosher Chinese restaurant in London with the fantastic name of Met Su Yan
Ken ZaynMemberCan any learned poster please help me with pashut peshat in a pasuk and a rashi. At the end of vayetzei (31, 33) the pasuk discusses lavan searching for his idols in the tents of yakov, rachel, leah and the two amahos (bilha and zilpa). What is the order in which he searched according to the pasuk and acc to rashi? The pasuk says first yakov’s tent (which rashi says means rachel). From here is confusing: “leah’s tent then the amahos, and he went out of leah’s tent and into rachel’s”. How could he go directly from leah’s tent into rachel’s (for rachel’s second search) if the pasuk just said that after leah’s tent he went to the amahos tents and not to rachel’s tent? (and the ramban says he only went once to leah’s tent)? And rashi is also shver to me as he writes that lavan returned to rachel’s tent BEFORE searching the amahos which again seems to be keneged the pasuk?
Ken ZaynMemberA Sheep without a Spleen – Welcome back! What an innovative idea!! Keep posting please. BTW I always meant to ask you, when you cant fall asleep at night what do you count?? (Please dont answer sheep with spleens…)
Ken ZaynMemberArtscroll’s website is completely closed for shabbos. Maybe this one should also, though I think with artscroll it could be different as they are a business so its a shaileh whether the owners can have a website open and effectively making money for them while it is shabbos for them. Here it is all voluntary. Voluntary moderators, voluntary posters, voluntary trolls, voluntary stalkers and voluntary addicts. I would presume the advertisers are in another category. But a post in from a place where it is shabbos there, if the mods can tell which country we post from, should for sure not be posted.
Do mods know where posts come from?
Ken ZaynMemberTo see if he’s back or not, check his profile page
http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/profile/am-yisrael-chai
Look under each post. It tells you how long ago it was posted.
Ken ZaynMemberThis is another reminder if true, and we cant get enough reminders, that we have absolutely no idea what type of person we are replying to and who’s posts we are reading. We build up mental images of posters without having any clue who they really are. Anyway Jothar, whats this “I hear from the mods” business??? See, we dont even know who is a poster and who is a mod! Yet again. It seems to be a real cozy relationship…
Ken ZaynMemberTzaddiq you naughty person! So tzaddiq by name but not by nature? You must be quite a tzaddik nistar…
It still should not have taken 5-6 minutes for your sister to chap unless each person was playing with their own dreidel in which case you should have bought one for her also… with 4 shins!
Ken ZaynMemberHere here! Come back and come back now! Show us you are alive and have read the many many threads and posts where we show our disgust at what has happened. We’re all on your side.
ICOT: AYC may be of the chanuka gelt custom and could be opposed to chanuka presents so he may not be wanting to give us a present. So let me say: AYC, I will accept gelt off you any time, buddy!

December 13, 2011 11:03 pm at 11:03 pm in reply to: vauxhall combo: most practical car in England? #834950Ken ZaynMember‘The most practical car’ depends on what you want it for and where you are driving. For example, for driving on the congested M25 (London Orbital Highway) which is also known as the world’s largest car park, you are best with a stationary wagon!

December 9, 2011 1:10 am at 1:10 am in reply to: Story of Rabbi Yonatan Eibeshutz – Computer Enhanced #834260Ken ZaynMemberchofetzchaim, firstly its great to see you back here again (Dec 2011) you have the best threads and posts, especially the mishnayos puns and purim ones also. You must be one of the longest standing posters here. Please post more regularly. We need guys like you here.
The links at the end of your OP above do not work. Are you able to repair/suggest alternative? And while you are repairing links, your amazing link for searching the coffeeroom now only brings me to the regular google page. It was better before you modified it. Can you help? Thanx CC!
