My heart goes out to you. I was once told by the Rabbi that a Jew cannot be angry. I understand. That is noble. But there have been times in my life that I turned anger into a drive to succeed.
KeenanpMemberThanks Yitzman. I’ve done it once before. I’ll see, this may be very useful. The move is this Wednesday.
KeenanpMemberAish HaTorah looks excellent Nechomah, thank you! They have Rabbi Skobac coming for a lecture soon too.
Victoria is kind of out of the way for someone from North/West Vancouver. Even then travelling to the Oak st. area is a ways away. So there’s a problem to solve before Shabbat. 🙂
If anyone is interested, I see Vancouver also has a Community Kollel. I’ve met the Director/Rabbi there before, very welcoming.

What if you’re going to law school and won’t be able to provide stable income and job security until you’re say 26+?
KeenanpMemberI think this is an excellent idea, regardless of the CR. I haven’t been here enough to get the flavour of the posts here. Last night I really angered someone in a conversation, needlessly. I think this was lashon hara, and I had to apologize. I’m going to do everything I can to watch my tongue. The manner in which we communicate with one another is very important.
Nem I think that’s a good point.
KeenanpMember“the wearing of black and white as representing the colours of the ink and vellum of the Torah scroll If this would so, why do the Amish also be wear these colors?
BTW Based on the way you Keenanp spelt color with a “u”, are you in the UK? or down & under in Australia or New Zealand?”
Sorry I don’t know how to quote on here. That is a good point about the Amish. That doesn’t mean it’s invalid. Still, what I was told is only hearsay. I’m sure there are better answers.
I’m from Canada. 🙂
KeenanpMemberHi Shopper. 🙂
Thanks for the kind words! I think it’s awesome you’re a teen and religious. I wasn’t very interested until I hit my first year of college and found the Jewish section of the library.
I’m going to contact the local Chabad. Thanks again.
KeenanpMemberThank you Nechomah. I know there is a Chabad centre in Vancouver. I will certainly check it out. A sympathetic ear is all one needs sometimes. 🙂
KeenanpMemberI heard one frum Jew explain the wearing of black and white as representing the colours of the ink and vellum of the Torah scroll. I wasn’t raised in a religious household, so I know very little about this.
However, when I hear a knowledgeable person or rabbi teaching Torah and he’s not wearing a black hat, or kippah, I sometimes feel as if something is off.
KeenanpMemberlol! Here I thought I was going to learn some Hebrew.
KeenanpMemberThanks Shreck, mitzvahgirl, oomis, shopping. It was a really incredible experience, and surprisingly all that walking and eating was alot of work! I had no idea what I was doing at Shul, and made quite a few mistakes…
Luckily everyone was really nice. Met SO many people, lots of young people, even a couple who walked most of the way home with me. I learned that Judaism is about community.
Edit: Oh yeah, what is suc? I’ll join.
KeenanpMemberlol, I love how the first thing you do after your allergist tells you you’re allergic to chocolate is eat chocolate. 😛
KeenanpMember“Cat seems non-phased
Much like Schrodinger’s cat then…”
Yes, in fact I only ever do it in the name of science. Ayy I don’t know how to quote on this board. :
KeenanpMemberGood morning & thanks! I’ll consider you my welcome comittee 🙂
KeenanpMemberI usually throw the cat on my sister. Started young, it’s pretty much tradition now. Cat seems non-phased.
