unfortunately, you are right. 🙁
kahane_was_rightParticipantHe makes a good point. We need people like him. He makes us uncomfortable. R’ Meir Kahane made us uncomfortable. We look up to our Gedolim today for guidance on this topic but where are they? To say that it’s not important and that’s why they’re quiet is not true. You see that for the longest time our Gedolim have been quiet about the child molestation problems in our community and now when the people are demanding action, now’s when they’re coming out and speaking up. R’ Miller Z”L was once asked if Jews should join the Moral Majority (led by Jerry Falwell) and he responded that they should be supported because they’re doing the work we should be doing.
Let’s not disparage Rabbi Levin. Good for him that he has the guts to do what he’s doing.
Many years ago, there was a man name Pinchas who saw a big Tzaddik doing something terrible against HaShem and had he taken the consensus of all the other Tzaddikim in his time, they would have surely told him to take two aspirin and call them in the morning. Yet, we see that HaShem said “Hineni Noisen Lo Brisi Sholom”.
The Torah is not a story book nor a history book. Many events that took place during that period was not recorded. Every story that was recorder is there for a lesson.
When someone does against the Torah, it should hurt and we should cry out. The fact that the Gedolim are not crying out is because they have their livelyhoods and organizations to worry about. HaShem will already take care of them. But we as G-d fearing people should not allow ourselves to be cowed into inaction because of their fears of losing some programs.
I wish I had the Emunah and guts like Rabbi Levin to step up and do what’s right, but I also fear that my kids will be ousted from their cheder.
