You know you’re not a yeshiva guy anymore when you see a lomdushe abbreviation (eidus shebatlah miktzaza, kim ley bederabba miney, etc) and you draw a blank.
JotharMemberI am usually makpid on chalav yisroel, but when there is no chalav stam I’ll drink it.
JotharMemberSpinal Tap’s Black Album was fiction, as was Nigel Tufnel’s special amp which was so loud it could be cranked to 11, and the drummer that spontaneously combusted during the performance. Metallica’s eponymous Black Album was fact.
The Rutles were a legend that will last a lunchtime. All you need is cash!

JotharMemberBen-Gurion was known to exclaim, better 1 neturei-kartanik in Yerushalayim than 10 Zionists in Chicago.
JotharMemberRebbetzin David wrote much of the Pachad Yitzchok.
JotharMemberI was 12 when the double album came out… both the MBD double album and the Use Your Illusion double album… nothing lasts forever, daaga minayin?
I was 12 when the Dark Side of the Moon came out… the Wizard of Oz was never the same.
JotharMemberI once heard Rabbi Drillman Shlit”a say that Rav Hutner used to say about himself, The Alter built the ershte plotz (bottom floor) and Rav Kook built the tzveite plotz (top floor). Doesn’t sound like a repudiation. He didnt’ say hallel on yom ha’atzma’ut, but he was no NKnik. More like non-zionist than anti-zionist.
JotharMemberSam2, the mesilas yesharim talks about excess conversations with women in shaar haprishus, He makes it clear that it may be technically mutar but it’s wrong. The mishna of al tarbeh sicha im isha is in avos, not seder nashim. The Rav ZT”L said similarly when someone asked him about women dancing on simchas torah- there’s nothing halachically wrong but it’s wrong anyway.
JotharMemberBeing a mod means that you bear responsibility for the content of every post that makes it through. Are you ready for that level of responsibility?
JotharMemberSam2, what are the big sugyos in Shabbos?
Reb Moshe ZT”L had Dibros Moshe throughout shas. He wasn’t limited by what his yeshiva did. If he was, he couldn’t have been the poseik that he was.
JotharMemberSlabodka’s influence has waned.
JotharMemberI was 12 when the Black album came out. After that, nothing else mattered.
JotharMember[Insert typical Mizrachi response to typical frumteens pilfer here]
[Insert more frumteens boilerplate here]
[insert really lefty response here]
[Insert response insulting other person’s gedolim here]
[Insert asinine comment about the other person’s intelligence here which will get toned down by the mods here]
JotharMemberOn the ball, I was thinking about this the other day and trying to rack my brains why Greece should be so important 2,000 years after its decline.
The sephardi meforshim say Greece and Rome are one and the same, and the 4th golus is the Yishmaeilim. this could be the final end of the 3rd golus, leaving the 4th to happen now.
JotharMemberI was 12 when the White Album came out. It was a seminal moment of my formative years.
JotharMemberThe problem with Zionism is [insert lengthy screed stolen from frumteens mod here].
I beat Joseph to it!
JotharMemberThis was also a major machlokes between Volozhin and Slabodka.
You find many more rishonim and achronim on nashim-nezikin than on moed. Clearly this is an old preference.
JotharMember“Fargin” is the perfect Yiddish word. It expresses such an essential position of yahadus.
JotharMember“Imagine” is about atheism “Above us only sky, no religion too”…”imagine no possessions”.
Thefrumguy, the mods have confirmed that there is an active stalker here. People need to be careful what info they release.
JotharMemberThe book “In Their Shadow” vol. 1 mentions how someone spoke to the Chazon Ish about the yeshivos learning aliba dehilchesa instead of learning lomdus. The Chazon Ish turned it down, saying everyone must have a chance to become a gadol. The time for learning aliba dehilchesa is after one becomes a talmid chochom.
JotharMemberThe Maharam Schiff at the end of Bava Metzia mentions that in his yeshiva they went from Bava metzia to kesubos. Nashim-Nezikin is where the lomdus is.
JotharMemberThere is a famous cartoon where a bunch of wolves are shedding their sheep disguises and one of them says “For crying out loud! Isn’t anyone here a real sheep?!”
JotharMembershusa deyenuka beshuka, oh de’abba oh de’ima.
JotharMemberDo you mean the Rutles?
JotharMemberWelcome back AYC! Your return really meant a lot to me.

November 4, 2011 5:40 pm at 5:40 pm in reply to: vehicles with Hatzala permits not moving during alternate parking #824988JotharMemberThere are perks to being on hatzalah.
JotharMemberMost good rabbonim recommend pre-marital counseling. It’s tough to go from “me” to “we”. The poison in any marriage is focus on the self. Mussar helps as well.
JotharMemberMBD said he doesn’t put out cd’s because thanks to pirating, there’s not much money in them. The money is all in concerts and weddings, and putting out singles is good enough for that. The album is dead.
JotharMemberAgreed 100%.
JotharMemberCheck my profile- I came along at the very beginning of the Cr. I have participated in bunches of threads, fit in quite well, etc etc.
http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/profile/jothar
I took a break, came back, saw criminal activity. I had to point it out. Turns out the problem was bigger than I expected. I make no apologies for trying to stop crime.
2scents, it’s VERY hard to fake a voice. And it would be voluntary. Only the ywn owner would know who’s who, the rest of the info is still secret to the rest of us. So everyone has their privacy and anonymity, and we can stp accusing everyone of the “j” word. Haleivi, AYC, Zeeskite, et al can be fully accepted. Again, if it doesn’t suit you, skip it.I’m not proposing paying $11,000 in escrow to be verified.
As for my making this place unpleasant, my sincere apologies. I saw criminal activity, I pointed it out, and now things are happening to eliminate this problem. It was a more pleasant place when everyone acted without a care in the world and stalker/infostealers had the run of the place. But it was untenable.
Have fun. Leich echol besimcha. Party away. Get back to the fun threads. I like them. I’m not a one-issue poster. And I’ll get back to letting the mods do the babysitting.
JotharMemberThing might be easier soon, once someone is in here:
http://nigelparry.com/enginefiles/uploads/llima-orosa-cell-toilet.jpg
JotharMemberYou can make new phone numbers in 2 minutes, but you can’t make new voices. Whoever is making the calls would recognize a voice if he hears it too often.YWN editor has spoken to joseph and knows what he sounds like. If someone claims to be a 12 year old girl but has the voice of a guy will not get verified or get removed. Goq, if you don’t like it you don’t have to get verified. It’s voluntary. That’s the beauty of the idea.
JotharMemberI’m willing to volunteer to be the first of the non-mods to be verified, once approved by the site owner.
November 4, 2011 2:25 pm at 2:25 pm in reply to: Should BMG Have A Say In Lakewood Politics? #824102JotharMemberBMG’s say is done using a third-party organization that is not BMG. So they manage to have their say without affecting their non-profit status. Standard loophole. Many voters went against the vaad last time and voted for Christie instead of Corzine. history shows who was right.
JotharMemberAgain, am yisroel chai might very well be who he/she claims to be- and might not. Until verified sn’s are implemented, it’s hard to trust anyone.
JotharMemberPlease see my new thread which, if implemented, will greatly reduce the accusations and greatly improve the trust of the cr.
JotharMemberOneofmany, read through my posts over the years and you will see I have quite the sense of humor.
I took a long break, came back, noticed suspicious activity, and decided to point it out.
am yisroel chai, agreed 100%. Have fun, but be cautious.
We have a case of bari hezeika here. The suspicious phishing and info harvesting posts completely disappeared once i pointed it out. YWN owner knows of one person who has been using the info gleaned here for nefarious purposes, and it could be there are more. Exactly what the balance is, I don’t know. But the pendulum clearly needed to swing back in the direction of caution- people were being too free with personal info, and someone HAS been taking advantage.
And correct, everyone is suspect. Chazal tell us that even though every Jew has a chezkas kashrus, we still say Kabdeihu vechashdeihu. The gemara says a yachid bedoro was someone whom people would lend money to without a loan document. That’s the way the gemara defines a gadol hador, so clearly anyone who is not on that level requires a loan document as proof.
Everyone here is a stranger. Have fun, but take precautions.
JotharMemberThe Z in “lolz”? It’s netslang. As in plural lol is lols, and it gets switched to a z. also gets written as lulz, as in lulzsec, the hacking groups that does it for the “lulz”, aka the laughs.
Those of you who live in apartments know the feeling when you turn on the kitchen light in the middle of the night and all the roaches go scurrying out of the light. Since I started this thread, the phishing attempts seemed to have stopped. A little light sheds much darkness. The trick is now to catch the roaches before they can come out again.
JotharMemberJust to make it clear again:
I have nothing personal against anybody. I’m just trying to stop cybercrime. As a father, the death of Leiby kletzky hit me hard. So when I spotted what looked like cybercrime, I had to react. The innocent kids (and adults) of the CR deserve nothing less.
JotharMemberZeeskite, lolz!
JotharMemberI wish the CR was safe. It has the illusion of being cozy and intimate. However, it’s not. Just because someone standing in shul has a beard and payos doesn’t mean he won’t hurt you. The community has found this out the hard way. Online is the same as real life. A few in the CR have found this out the hard way- trust the mods on this one. Even after the infostealer is safely away, who says there aren’t others lurking? The CR is open to anyone who can click on the “coffee room” link, just like a shul or yeshiva is open to anybody who can pull/push the door open.
November 3, 2011 4:13 pm at 4:13 pm in reply to: If you've read "NASI Project Responds", have you changed your mind? #847712JotharMemberOne issue not being discussed- who is “guaranteeing” the thousands of dollars to be paid upfront? What controls are in place to make sure the money is safely in escrow and won’t be “borrowed” by an administrator who’s behind on his mortgage?
JotharMemberPeople like Rav Dessler, Rabbi AJ Twerski and Rabbi aryeh kaplan have mainstreamed much of chassidish thought already.
JotharMemberItche-Srulik, was it Vaad harabbonim or Kupat Hair?
JotharMemberWhat is the frequency Kenneth?
JotharMemberTake a look at any picture of a clink.
It could be that mr. infostealer will fail his psychiatric exam and get put in a nice room in Creedmoor- privacy and kosher food. He’ll also get the help he needs. No internet though.
JotharMemberZeeskite, a groyseh shkoyach for pointing out the big issue with the CR- someone says the sky is blue on a clear day, and someone says “maybe it’s red”.
Imagine what it’s like to have to use the bathroom when other cellmates are watching. Our infostealer may soon undergo this degradation every day, once the warrant is finished. I feel bad for him.
