Eruvin. It is difficult. However, widespread computer concepts help me understand Eruvin concepts. There are virtual “dwellers” and virtual “private domains”.

I see that the famous mosherose is doing Yuma. He will learn that normally husbands are supposed to be with their wives. Only because of the stringent “tahara” concerns with the high priest was he separated from his wife for the 7 days before Yom Kippur.

Here in Dallas we had an ice and sleet storm closing all the schools, and now the coldest weather in a decade. Two football teams from Green Bay and Pittsburgh arrived yesterday bringing all this.

A good Shadchan should coach the boy on the appropriate means of transportation based upon the Shadchan’s knowledge of the girl.

For example, with Sacrilege it would be, “Borrow your uncle’s nice car”.

Where experience is minimal, coaching is essential.

“we will be facing Katrinas all over the world”

While there is wide consensus that warming is occurring as you correctly detailed above, no one storm or event can be attributed to this warming.

“The question is what to do about it.”

Some of the proposed solutions which crush personal autonomy and / or threaten Global Economic Depression scare me more than warming itself. We already know what a 10 year long Depression leads to. Dictators and would be dictators love such crises as Global Warming as excuses to more tightly control our lives.

However, there are many common sense actions that can be taken which do not threaten personal autonomy or economic downturn. They will also make the USA less dependent upon the oil that some of the above mentioned dictators control. Yesterday we traded in the gas guzzler.

“Black hole known as the Social Security Trust fund”

Social Security is real and real people have benefited from it.

However, the Trust fund is only an accounting gimmick.

A real Trust Fund can not consist of IOUs issued by the Trustee!!!

Even if the so called “Trust fund” did not exist benefits would still have to be paid out. It would be political suicide for any leader (socialist, democrat, republican or even tea party) to even hint that pay out is at risk.

It comes out that the so called “Trust fund” serves more to protect the rest of the government spending than it serves to protect the beneficiaries!!!

Continuing the tax cuts will keep a trillion dollars in capital here in the USA where it can sustain and generate several million real jobs. Else it will move to countries with lower tax rates along with the good jobs. Even socialist Canada has a maximum federal tax rate of only 29%.

The stock market crash in 2000 was far greater than that in 1929, but a 10 year great depression did not ensue.

From the title I thought gambling related material was the subject.

In that regard I will argue that the most stringent approach is needed because there has been a great breakdown in the sense of responsibility regarding money.

Worst is that many of our sons see no obligation to learn how to support their future families.

“every Jew must have some familiarity with the reality of the spiritual world in order for him to properly fulfill the Nigla/revealed part of the Torah”

Spiritual concepts that are in Tanach, Mishnayos and Gemara are part of the Nigla.

However, there needs to be a sequence to learning.

Chapter 11 of Sanhedrin should not be the first Torah someone learns.

There are strong reasons 8 Masechta’s (Tractates) are focused upon in the Yeshivish world. Berachos is not one of then.

    “a new economic order”

Previously Torah was never supported by MOFES.

This creates the emphasis on the “spiritual experience” instead of actually having to know what one learned.

Many in the Charedei world put a much greater emphasis on actually knowing what one learns. Mifal HaShas is a strong example.

The amount of outside knowledge needed to fully understand Torah and make Torah that which can fully guide our lives is enormous. If we so completely block out outside knowledge from the new generation in the name of purity as the right wingers on this blog want to do, much of the Torah will become meaningless to them when they learn it. Studying which animals are permitted and which are prohibited will be like chanting magical incantations.

“does not forbid a King or a Beit Din from taking your property”

This was only to be used in extremely rare circumstances.

Look how Ahab was punished for abusing this power.

The King could execute anyone for for Mored B’Malchus, which included any act of disrespect or rebellion.

The responsibility for respect and quiet during davening also falls heavily on the shul leadership. Long MiShebairachs will lead to schmoozing that will carry on after the MiShebairach ends. Our shul has eliminated them and replaced them with pledge cards. Decorum has improved. If the overall Shabbos service approaches 3 hours, the temptation to talk during the repetition of Mussaf becomes overwhelming.

The focus of Kaddish has to be sanctifying G-d’s name in THIS WORLD. This form of sanctification requires 10 men. Most other forms of sanctification do not require the presence of 10 men. Other forms include keeping Mitzvos one is obligated to do, doing acts of kindness and any behavior that enhances the image of those who keep Torah and Mitzvos.

When children sanctify G-d in this world, the parents’ souls gain benefit.

Kaddish is not a prayer for the dead, nor a tool of manipulation of other world.

“He was bragging about his behavior in shul last Friday night.”

Either he is completely ignorant about the meaning of Kaddish or an apostate.

If this becomes a central driving principal then there needs to be separate coffee rooms for men and women. When Shabbos guests come over separate dining areas for men and women.

There are some great stringencies in the area of tsnius (between husband and wife) that the Mechaber brings down, against which the Remah argues.

Before one learns any mystical aspect of a Mitzvah, he must know every non mystical detail of that Mitzvah first.

If it is a Rabbinic law, one must know what Biblical law it is to protect.

This is why Kabbalah should only be studied by those already established as strong scholars in the revealed Torah.

I do find plenty of spirituality in the revealed Torah.
