Joseph, If you see the Chofetz Chaim’s sefer you see that he leans towards stringency. I once read some of an article showing that the Chofetz Chaim was very stringent when it came to loshon hara.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantJoseph, What is your opinion on my other questions of lifnie ivar?
Jewish ThinkerParticipantIt is not hard to delete a post.
I think it says in the rules that it is harder to edit a post than completely delete it.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantBrilliant Move!
Jewish ThinkerParticipantBUMP
Jewish ThinkerParticipantBUMP
Jewish ThinkerParticipant(Since this is a random thread, I can post something random)
I was looking at some hebrew halachic article and they quoted this sefer: ?”?: What is ?”?? Anybody know what sefer it stands for?
Jewish ThinkerParticipantThe trollness is not what causes the loshon hara.
Come on, of course some trolling causes loshon hara.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantAgain, DY, how do you not hold this is a case of tzarich iyun?
Jewish ThinkerParticipantWhat about on a thread where there is loshon hara but the victim of the negative talk was greatly defended? Is it still Lifnie Ivar to bump?
Jewish ThinkerParticipantRav Frankel told me that he asked Rav Dovid shlit”a about the teshuvas and Rav Dovid did not explain them, he just repeated his view that his father said one may get cs even where cy is readily available. Rav Frankel told me that basically they don’t reflect a longstanding opinion told many times orally.
Jewish ThinkerParticipant1)That Rav Dovid Feinstein holds in his father’s name that it is permissible to eat chalav stam even where chalav yisrael is readily available.
2) If the chalav stam and chalav yisrael are both equal in price and quality, you should definitely only get the chalav yisrael.
3)Despite the teshuvas that indicate contradictory to the above, Rav Dovid shlit”a still maintains from his father that it is permissible even where it is readily available.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantHis name is Rabbi Yitzchok Dovid Frankel, rav in Agudath Yisrael of the Five Towns in Cedarhurst. He is the author of the Machat Shel Yad.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantI asked Rav Dovid Frankel, his close talmid. And he confirmed with me. He did say that Rav Dovid shlit”a said if they are both equal, get cy. Where in the Igros does it say pay more?
The Igros Moshe is full of psak halachos.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantYou better stay off Thanksgiving 🙂
It is an American Holiday
Jewish ThinkerParticipantRav Dovid Feinstein shlit”a’s holding in the name of his father that it is mutar even when cy is readily available is not in the Igros either.
Right. I consider it on the level of being in the Igros. It is his own son.
And you keep asking for a source for the story, but what difference does it make? It’s not in the Igros.
Why would Rav Moshe tz”l recount the story in the Igros?
Also, where in Igros does it say that something which is not in the Igros is wrong?
There are teshuvas outside the Igros that can be different than in the Igros. The one’s in the Igros are usually the ones we follow.
And if you think that teshuvah is wrong, why did he write it?
It is not wrong. We just don’t know the circumstance he was writing in and everything.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantIt depends what type of trolling.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantTo some it may be funny, to others it may not be, it is subjective.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantAlso, if I troll and write something that could easily lead to people to say loshon hara that could be avak loshon hara, I think.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantI saw the picture of the teshuva in the ????? ?????? but that teshuva is not in the Igros. How do you deal with Rav Dovid Feinstein shlit”a’s who holds in the name of his father that it is mutar even when cy is readily available?
Jewish ThinkerParticipantJewish thinker a.if the source is avodeh zarah logic wouldn’t help. B. Keys in challah is the polar opposite of logical custom.
I’m not 100% sure you are right about a. About B, putting trees in the shul is not logical in it of itself, but it is a remembrance of Har Sinai. Same thing here, not logical, but now for a segulah so logical.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantAs I said, it is a logical custom now so even if we copied it acc. to the Marsham it might not be chukas hagoy. (I’m streching that Marsham a lot, I know)
Jewish ThinkerParticipantHow about if I post on a thread, thus making people who search on Google find it easily. They go on it and might see the other threads that by mistake have loshon hara on them. Is that Lifnie Ivar?
Jewish ThinkerParticipantRabbi Shabstai Rappaport and Rabbi Mordechai Tendler. Before the hakdama there is a hakdamah from Rabbi Dovid and Rabbi Reuven Feinstein and Rabbi Moshe Tendler.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantThe point is that acc. to him one can drink chalav stam even where chalav yisrael is readily available. Clearly not “only ???? ????”. Rav Dovid shlit”a does say that if the cs and cy are both equal in price and quality you should take cy.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantAgain, just in case someone has not seen it, I am bumping so someone who might have a source for the story see it.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantDaasYochid-I don’t know what you do with Rav Dovid Feinstein shlit”a who says in the name of his father that chalav stam is permissible even in a place where it is readily available.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantThank you, Joseph
Jewish ThinkerParticipantAnother random thread. Write anything you want.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantSam2- Even if it came from non-jewish sources it may not be chukas hagoy. It is a logical custom. And the Marsham (See Igros Moshe YD 4:11:5) permits trees on Shavous even though the Non-Jews adopted it for religious purposes. I can see a nafka mina bec. there they copied us and not the other way around but still now that this custom has a reason, it may not be chukas hagoy.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantJoseph-Are you sure that bumping violates Lifnei Ivar?
Jewish ThinkerParticipantI would also like each member of the Coffee Room to increase their awareness of posting loshon hara on the CR. There are some who are careful and some who are not so careful. Please let us all try, bli neder, to be more careful.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantModerator- Can you increase the the awareness of loshon hara. I know you work very hard but can you please try a little bit harder to take out loshon hara.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantJoseph, but let’s by mistake I stumbled on it, can I still bump the thread? Moderator, is it difficult, in general, to delete posts?
Jewish ThinkerParticipantI don’t know any religion that has the practice of putting a key in their bread so I guess you are right.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantDY-In a different thread by chanuka gifts you told me that we pasken like the Gra by all religious customs, even if we have our own source for it (like Shavous). Now what do you say?
Jewish ThinkerParticipantA good thing to find out is how Rav Moshe tz”l himself was ???? for his family (I heard he was meikel) and how available was Chalav Yisrael on the Lower East Side and how much was it and if Rav Moshe tz”l started to use it for his family when it became easier to get it on the Lower East Side.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantNow, the question is, how did the ????? ?????? get hold of the teshuva?
Jewish ThinkerParticipantActually, Rav Doivd and Rav Reuven Feinstein and Rav Moshe Tendler did not sign on the hakdomoh rather the hakdomoh before the hakdomoh.
How did you find that old issue of ????? ?????? ??? ?????
Jewish ThinkerParticipantAnd I think that Rabbi Weinfeld’s teshuva contradicts Rav Dovid Feinstein shlita’s opinion of his father’s opinion. Also, Rav Dovid and Rav Reuven Feinstein signed their names on the hakdamah of Igros Moshe 8
Still, how did Rabbi Forst shlit”a get a hold of it?
Jewish ThinkerParticipantHow did Rabbi Forst shlit”a get hold of the teshuva?
Jewish ThinkerParticipantHow about translating that, DaasYochid?
Jewish ThinkerParticipantSo the editor says that when he says “????? ??????” he means baalai nefesh
Jewish ThinkerParticipantDaasYochid- The editor throws this in, in parenthesis (besides other things he adds in parenthesis):
????”? ?”? ??’ ?”? ??? ??? ??”? ????? ?????? ?? ???? ????? ??? ???? ????? ?????? ??? ????? ???? ????? ???????; ???’ ??? ??????? ??”? ????? ????? ???? ??? ???, ???? ?????? ??? ??? ?????? ????? ??? ?????, ??? ????? ?? ??? ?????? ??? ??? ????? ?????, ??? ??? ?????? ????? ??? ?????? ???? ???? ??????
Jewish ThinkerParticipantAnd I’m not criticizing that point, just saying that it is subjective. Some may enjoy cholov yisrael bars better than Hersheys.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantI’m just trying to say it is subjective. Unrelated, (but related to the thread) what is your reading of ????? ??? ???? ??? ??? ? ???? ?? Specific case or across the board? I actually see that it could be across the board only bshas hadchak.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantRandom Thread Bump
Jewish ThinkerParticipantGoan Atzum- Great story.
I want to bump this to see if anyone did not see it yet and have a source for the story.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantI disagree with you on that one, DaasYochid.
Jewish ThinkerParticipantMRS PLONY- What you are saying is subjective. Someone may like chocolate with milk powder better than liquid milk. There are many delicious chalav yisrael brand chocolate bars, which one may like more than Hershey.
