So if I understood, all the police/ hatzolah radios are worthless without a repeater? Seems to me from what u are saying that they Basically have the same range as the walmart gprs just in a heavy duty case. So that’s out. Would I be able to use a ham radio in israel?

Are the radios that cab drivers use also on repeaters ? Or is that CB ? Or HAM ? Sorry for all the questions but I googled the subject and there is so much info out there I need to sort it out to make a more relevant google search.

The worst I would ever do is flip someones mirror. I ride with my tzitis out so I must behave however I do take chances on the road and that will bother most drivers(especialy the distracted ones). Btw 4 wheeled people please signal and keep 3 feet away. You can save a bikers life.

very cheap? sometimes but not usually. but it depends on the item. if you are looking for the left match for your bubby’s favorite slippers you will get that for VERY cheap , but for electronics, popular toys and housewares, you will need to track a few items and put your maximum bid then wait and see if you get out bid or not. dont bid on too many items too high cuz then you might end up with 3 ipods when you wanted only one! also, you need to check if the seller you are dealing with is honest also. sellers can charge as much shipping as they want because it includes handling and insurance.

advice from rabbi miller ztzl: always subtract a little from what people say about a shidduch. you need to read in between the lines. if they say he has amazing midos (and they say no more), he probably is more like your avg bochur or maybe less. but lets say, if two different people you ask go on and on about a certain character trait or mida he has, then you can be sure that he is above avg . everybody exaggerates a little because they dont know you . but from a good friend or family member , you can expect less exaggeration. btw rabbi millers tape ‘the 10 commandments of marriage’ is a must must must to hear for anyone who reads this comment, young or old, married or single.

i also say you should focus on marriage(maybe you are and got burnt out and need a break). i agree with the ‘cleaning toilets’ saying too. if you were a strong minded person, who knew what he wanted, i would see how you could succeed. but the fact that you are asking us possibly suggests otherwise. anyway ,two points to keep in mind :

if you make aliah at 22 w/o being married, you will face army issues but will be able to work.

if you dont make aliah you are there on a student or tourist visa so you wont be able to work legally.

however i think that if you find a yeshiva that will enroll you for half a day only, and they will provide room/board for a minimal donation, you will solve allot of problems (including spiritual) and be able to focus on finding work (but not legal work) for half a day. maybe you can travel often to the states and return with high end cameras or laptops/ipads to resell and make money that way , and see your parents . imo you can make it. but MY MAIN ADVICE IS: find a rebbe who will back you and guide you and you will succeed.iyh . let us know what you decide and maybe you will convince me to move with my family once you get there!

smokers are morons. not worth being accepted into yeshivas, or going out on a date with a beis yaakov girl.

the reason : hashem put early warning signals into all harmful things in this world that shout THIS IS BAD DONT DO IT AGAIN! this includes smoking (is there ANYONE who didnt cough his brains out after the first puff?) and drinking (i wont forget the first [and last] taste of shnaps as a kid- yuk!)

so in shomayim the smoking father dead at 45 cant taina ‘i couldn’t stop i was addicted’. it wont work. the eibishter will reply- why did you disregard my warnings, BEFORE you became addicted? i would love to hear some smokers brag how they ‘enjoyed’ the first puff. mamish gan eden huh?

ok this might be a bit off topic, but is it bichlal possible to be FFB? mommy fed you chicken for supper, and then you cried like a baby for your milk bottle, and you got it. even if you did keep all the mitzvos, you were not chayiv. there should be a new category- FAFB frum almost from birth. or how about FFBM frum from bar mitzvah.

eishes chayil in training, the gemara’s point is to find a match close to your background.

i will give another example in addition to BT-FFB and sfardi- ashkenazi that i think are not the same backround and will cause unneeded friction: FFB american to an FFB israeli. there are big differences in mentality between the two . not a good idea. also i heard from a great rosh yeshiva that he holds that despite a common language, American and British is not a good choice. cappeesh?

we are not trying to find a match in every category ! that is the wrong approach and a shtus! marriage is about putting two DIFFERENT people together, which is hard enough! there is no mitzvah to make your life even harder by choosing a partner who comes from a different planet altogether.

long time baal tshuvas should be treated like ffbs. that said, there is a gemara that says you should marry s/o from your family, if not then from your town ,your country, etc. the point of the gemara is: marry someone as close to your background as possible ! the reason: in married life there are enough gaps to bridge as it is. the closer the two are in backround, the better for shalom bayis . that goes for baal teshuvas and sfardim and ashenazim – try to marry your own kind. not to say that it CANT work. it can . its just not recomended.

the BEST way to go in israel is NOT to rent a cell phone. you purchase a cheap unlocked cell phone in the states for about 20 bucks or even less on ebay or amazon or your local cell phone store.(make sure its a QUAD BAND phone so it will work in israel) then you purchase a sim card when you arrive in israel for 40 sheckel (orange ‘big talk’ prepaid system). you can buy it online too: http://cgi.ebay.com/ISRAEL-PREPAID-SIM-CARD-ISRAELI-SIMCARD-ORANGE-/170520825562?pt=SIM_Cards&hash=item27b3d54eda you get a brand new sim card and a number that you own forever that you can use anytime you come to israel. just like every cell phone line in israel, you get free incoming calls. last i checked, the per min rates are about 1 sheckel per min . this will save you a TON of money. you can buy prepaid min. at many kiosks and stores all over israel. have a safe trip!

WIY first of all, there is a way to make a parnasa and follow the rules set by halacha and our gedoilim shlita , if you are a shoichet, a plumber, a singer, a fundraiser, or a CEO. you can do your job in a questionable way , be over isurim and be considered a machti harabim or do it 100 percent kosher. its our choice and hashem will reward us if we pass the test of making a ‘clean’ parnasa. the music industry need not close up shop, and the rabonom know that. they are trying to make takanos, for our benefit. thats all. why do we need to sing psukim to rap-like music or rap mamash? or hip -hop? why?

so i am not happy that it will affect anyone’s business, because it CANT. hashem is mefarnes everyone in his way, and one cannot lose by listening to gedoilei hador.

why is it so personal to me? simple. because i am obsessed with music. i used to listen all the time to it. but rav amnon has helped me realize just how far our music has strayed. now i realize that i was listening to goyishe music dressed up as jewish music with psukim. now we are literally taking CURRENT goyishe POP music and integrating it into our songs (yofyofisa) and the producers of this song had the chutzpa to call it ‘alternative’! alternative? they found a nice word for ‘so totaly goyish ‘! one singer gets introduced as ‘the king of jewish pop’. jewsih pop?! is there such a thing as jewish ham? or a jewish church?

so i am SHOUTING and i want am yisroel to look at where we are musically now, and where we are r’l headed with this. it must stop. it must change . the singers need to shape up because in this dor they are looked up to more than the gedoilim themselves! they should utilize this power hashem gave them for good not the opposite.

i stopped listening because what i once thought was so full of meaning i now realize is achizas einayim.

well informed yid, we are all in golus and in aveilus over the beis hamikdash in brooklyn, L.A. or yerushalayim. we all break the glass under the chupa for that reason.

the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada signed a letter begging am yisroel to regect all forms of pasul’le ‘jewish’ music in kisleiv tof shin samach vov. have you heard of that body or is that an anonymous poster too? maybe you will say its an outdated psak? well ‘our’ music has only gotten worse since then, with all sorts of clowns singing and acting on stage and with ‘imported’ singers teaching us ‘new tricks’ at the most prestigious jewish concerts.

apushatayid, if its convenient for you to assume that the psak is anonymous for your own benefit , thats fine. but don’t portray this as fact. the one who paskend and wrote the psak is rav vosner shlita, the one who brought the letter to the gedoilim to sign is rav amnon yitchack shlita and the gedoilm who signed, signed.

this is not a psak that someone printed up in mea shearim and signed ‘the vaad for kosher music’ or some other meaningless organization. furthermore , this is not the first psak against concerts from the gedoilim. singers- its time to ‘face the music’

well informed, ben torah is right . you are mixing apples and oranges. a concert setting (or a wedding) is the perfect place for mingling of the genders where chachomim required a mechitza. how can you compare that to a subway car?

regretfully , many frum newspapers and websites have chosen to totally ignore a psak halacha signed by rav elyashiv, rav shmuel, rav shteinman, rav sheinberg ,and many others and not be mefarsem it. so.. maybe you will tell me that they are not sure its authentic and thats why they are not publicizing it? to that i will answer that if any other type of news story finds its way to their ears, if they doubt its true they will make a few phone calls to verify it, and if its not sometimes they might even publicize that its sheker.

fortunate are we that we have a tzadikim in our generation who will tell us the emes no matter how hard it hurts.

wellinformed yid .you have not said that you think the psak has been forged. if its a real psak, why should it not be taken seriously? just because some blog says so? also, who said the problem is sitting NEXT to women? the issur here is not negiah! its MIXED seating ! dont tell me you sit mixed at weddings too! does your rav have a problem with that?

i understand that ALLOT of people make a parnasa- (singers, composers, distributors, newspapers, and websites just to name a few) from the music industry, and many dollars are raised for worthy causes from it. however there are lots of issurim being stepped on in the name of this parnasa

‘all for the boss’ made a stand against mixed weddings during a time when the issue was being grossly neglected. today we owe it all to him. he didnt care what the ‘blogs’ said. he did whats right.

rav amnon is doing the same thing. he is making a stand against another breach in the wall of the jewish people. ‘JEWISH MUSIC’ that doesnt look jewish or sound jewsih, and produces nothing but issurim.

i saw the psak on his site and on a news site (kikar). rav wosner shlita authored the psak. the psak doesnt call or mention any singers names. however facts are facts and rav yitzchak IS saying ‘klipa’ in his lectures. they are all available for viewing on his site. the gedoilim read the psak and signed it, and it says that on the psak too. this is all factual, and there is not much to it.

(in no particular order) rav sheinberg rav elyashiv, rav vosner, rav shteinman, rav lefkovitz, reb chaim, reb nisim karelitz, reb shmuel aurebach have signed a psak halacha that even separate concerts are asur in EY and in the U.S., all the jewish singers are sinners, and its asur to sing their music, among other things in the psak. (shofar website)

this seems like a very big step against jewish music. the only thing left is to wait and see if it will have an effect .

like smartcookie said. the reason we are here in this world, the reason for being married and the reason for all mitzvos in the torah are one and the same. to perfect our character and gain merit in the world to come.(mesilas yeshorim) living with the same person 24/7 affords endless, limitless opportunities for constant work on ourselves. if your spouse turns out to have some negative qualities , that is what you need to work on most, apparently, since ones shidduch is decided in heaven. according to rabbi miller , even people who made a huge mistake in choosing a partner should make the best of the situation (unless its abusive etc)
