The test tube grown meat doesn’t come off a test tube grown animal, it’s grown as shaped and flavored protein so the only sheilos are about the kashrus of the raw material.

You give yourself too little credit. Most people can’t manage that either. In fact, most people wouldn’t know it was missing.

You give yourself too much credit. I can’t figure out what to put here, it’s just for symmetry. 🙂

I’ve done it on my Dell laptop and, a customer’s (very old) Compaq. I agree with you about Dell laptops. They’re very durable and it’s easy to get at the most commonly replaced parts.

Derech: Why would you need a mezuza on the other side? The closet isn’t an entrance to the room, it’s a place that is not considered a room at all because it doesn’t have the shiur.

ICOT: I’ve done what I suggested on my own laptop several times. I’ve never had any trouble and the keys always worked fine afterwards. I’m surprised that someone who has steady enough hands to solder circuitry (which I am far from good at) has trouble with that.

charlie: The thing is, it’s very rare to find a place where a sizable number of rishonim follow a tosefta over the mishnah, bavli and yerushalmi. The case you quote is one of the exceptions that proves the rule.

The Torah contains nissim to inspire us in every generation. In the earlier times when prophecy was common, Hashem gave our ancestors once in an era open miracles to inspire them like the splitting of the sea and the donkey’s mouth.

In our day, when you can open up any newspaper and read about talking donkey’s who not only talk, but make countries listen and elect them, we take our inspiration from the prophets of earlier times.

Pop the problem keys off (carefully!!) with a screwdriver or knife blade and clean. They snap right back on, don’t worry.

If that’s what your donor base is interested in then you have to cater to that (pun intended. 😉 ) It happens that the wine was donated by an Our Place alum who owns a liquor store.

Josh: That’s definitely a point. There are also a couple cautionary tales in the gemara about people who wore tefillin all day and took advantage of people who trusted them because they looked holy. The thing is, the practice continued among some people well after the stories happened.

Mod-80: A bus is the technical term for a circuit that carries data. SATA is the kind of circuit the hard drive inside you computer uses. The e stands for external.

ICOT: Whether or not memory needs to be installed in pairs depends on the system not just the memory itself. However, almost all memory sold today is DDR (double data rate) which is much faster (there’s a formula for calculating how much but I forget) than older modes but only if installed in pairs.

Mod-80: That means adding that one 2GB chip would speed your computer up very noticeably. The $25 would be well spent.

    Health:

1- You don’t need a workhorse model, a cheap PC will do fine.

2- Unless you buy a bundled deal like the ones Dell offers, you may end up paying as much as $250-350 for a decent display. Keep your old keyboard and mouse unless they’re broken, replacing would be a waste of $30.

3- Especially since you can get questions answered free in the coffeeroom. 🙂

4- Why not? They are usually very good, often better than their non-free counterparts.

ICOT: 6GB of RAM is enough to run Windows 7 (not that I’d recommend running windows in general) with the applications Mod-80 mentioned. Also, unless you have a very large collection of illegally downloaded movies, it’ll be quite a while before you need more than a terabyte of storage.

The i3 is the replacement of the old celeron processor line so they are meant to be “budget” chips, but even a budget processor is enough for most peoples’ needs these days. The most cpu intensive thing you’ll be doing is photoshop I don’t think you have to worry much. The i5 is much better but the extra performance is not necessarily worth the extra money.

That is the most reliable blog. A work of fiction portraying itself as such is always more trustworthy than half truths passing themselves off as the whole thing. Speaking of that blog, I wish you’d post more often. I like your stuff. That being said, what does your second paragraph have to do with the first?

If you built your last one you probably bough parts from either tigerdirect or newegg. I would recommend either site for readymade systems as well, definitely over places like bestbuy. If you’ll allow outside links for this thread I can post some. As for lenovo, they are generally good deals — especially the thinkpad laptops — but they are a state approved/run chinese company so some people don’t want to buy from them.

Derech Hamelech: If you are correct, then any Jewish male over bar mitzvah who isn’t incontinent should wear tefillin all day. That includes both of us, yet as I type this, I’m not wearing tefillin and I doubt you are either.

BoR: While technically you do not have to wear tzitzis every moment of the day, please bear the following in mind. An Israeli soldier once asked Rav Shlomo Aviner if he was permitted to take his tzitzis off during physical training (which includes full kit marches in the desert in the summer). The Rabbi answered “technically yes, but remember that Bar Kochba’s fighters fought in tefillin.”

A British gentleman once said to a Boston Brahmin “I can’t imagine how terrible it must be for you Americans to be governed by people who you wouldn’t dream of having over for dinner!”

The American replied “It must be unfathomably worse for you, being governed by people who wouldn’t dream of having you for dinner.”
