First of all, my heart goes out to her about her family troubles but I have no advice. I don’t know what kind of resources you have to be able to help her or if it’s even possible, but I can advise you about the teaching aspect.

In my experience (I’ve got quite a bit) if someone is actively trying to learn about Judaism, they want to learn about Judaism. Simply talk about anything that she isn’t mocking at the moment and work back around to that later. Someone can’t stand hearing about yet another halacha, talk about dveikus. She feels she can’t relate to the concept of moshiach, talk about the shabbos table. She doesn’t believe in God — this will be very shocking — nu? Lots of frum people don’t. Talk about something else. I repeat, if she’s there, she wants to be. Keep going until you find something she does want to learn about, and since all of torah is tightly connected you can work your way back when you feel she’ll be receptive.

    Yes, you get a biscuit.

(Real shaylah, asked to real talmid chochom who happened to be lactose intolerant and had to turn down the plate of cookies I wanted to give him after the psak.)

Has anyone noticed that the people who fast behab are usually the ones who need it the least?

Fleishig cookie sheet not ben yomo.

    Biscuits made with butter.

What (if anything) needs to be kashered and how?

    Are the biscuits treif?

Correct answer gets a biscuit, kosher or not.

Maybe is v’ishto refers the various animals that mate monogamously for life and zachar u’nikava to the rest. Though I think cognates are much more likely.

Yes, but shchita is also the only avoda kosher with a zar, in bigdei chol, and with kavanos that would make it pigul during any other avoda. IIRC, sitting is also on the list. I was hoping someone would call me on hte trick question.

    yossi:

1- In essence, you are saying there is no hope for the current batch of messianists to come to their senses.

2- I’m talking about the case in 2007 where the secular court ruled against the gabbaim and was renewed before Rosh Hashanna over the business with the sign Rabbi Krinsky wanted to put up.

My questions were about recent Lubavitch history but they might aggravate things. That’s why I asked first.

1- I heard that the friediker rebbe had messianists in his lifetime. What happened to them and is there any hope of the current meshichisten vanishing the same way?

2- What is keeping the normal majority from throwing the tzfatim out of 770? Haven’t they won in both bet din and secular court already?

There are some people who pollute our mesoirah by claiming that we should not drink on simchas torah.

    Rabboisai this is utter apikorsus!!

Chazal switched duchening to shacharis for a reason! It is ossur to be meharher after them and if they made accommodations for drinking, it is the height of chutzpa not to. V’chol hamarbeh harei zeh meshubach.
