“When were we ever actually told 2% of the population would die? Can you point me in the direction of a credible source for that?”

The Washington Post wrote an article around April titled, “is the coronavirus as deadly as they say” and they wrote that we had previously thought that 2 million would die.

The University of Washington posted an article around the same time titled, “staggering death rate in US among those who show symptoms”, where they stated that 1.2 million would die without drastic measures.

Reuters also had an article around the same time where they stated that 2 million would die without lockdowns.

Originally the government told us 14 days to overcome covid-19. Then they added on a week. Then another. Then indefinitely. Then until July. Then until October 31. Now until 2022.

This paragraph is my OPINION, so read at your own risk. 170,000 is actually over 1 million saved so in that case trump did an amazing job. 6 people died in NY yesterday from covid, which is probably less than the number of people who died in accidents and we are not banning highways. The battle seems to be over and we can completely reopen without threats of us being mass murderers.

“2% mortality rate of COVID cases. Not 2% of the population. So the more transmission of the virus was suppressed, via lockdowns, social distancing measures etc, the less deaths.”

The media and government told us that without lockdowns, almost everyone would get it and it would lead to well upwards of 3-4 million deaths. They kept saying over and over, Nancy Pelosi specifically comes to mind, that there would be at least 3-4 million deaths if we dont do a shutdown.

The lockdowns, social distancing measures, etc. saved millions of lives, which is a good thing.

But why is the USA (which has one of the biggest populations in the world) comparing itself to every tiny country. Rather we should be judging it on a state by state basis. Or, if the USA is one country, then so is all of Europe.

Also, we know that China, Iran and possibly Russia among other countries, are massively downplaying their numbers.

“You can’t white wash 170,000 people dead.”

Every single dead person is a sad thing and a tragedy for their nuclear unit.

However, when the country was shut down (really most of the world) we were told to expect about a 2 percent death rate. Two percent of about 330 million is almost 7 million.

The most interesting part of this whole conversation, and all similar ones, is that many people view their political party in complete black or white. Meaning, that everything negative that happens is the fault of the other party or at least that their party doesn’t deserve blame for it. On the other hand, everything positive that happened is directly as a result of the actions of their favorite political party, or that it occured despite the actions of the other party.

I’m a trump supporter but I still agree that he made some bad decisions.

    Anonymous jew,

The reason the full price of tuition is so high is to allow for tuition breaks for those who need it. The government can pay the same amount for every single child so it averages out to a lower number.

The question of whether staff in Jewish schools deserve more is easy to describe but complicated to solve. Parents hopefully recognize that if they want private education then it comes with a high price tag, while staff should know that if their institution discourages their students from getting proper careers, then they hopefully recognize that down the line those students will not be able to afford full tuition.

Ben Shapiro recently featured a girl on tiktok who is, presumably, going to get her 2nd abortion and she is dancing and thinks it’s a party. Seeing her reaction to getting the abortion is creepy at best.

Many pregnancies before 40 weeks can be ended with a pill and dont need an actual procedure.

You would think that when creating the laws prohibiting abortions, the lawmakers would put in exceptions that would make it legal in extenuating circumstances.

The reason “no-questions-asked abortion” was made legal is not because its racist to make it illegal given that rich people will do it anyway (yes, the claim was made that it is a racist law.) The reason it was made legal is because ‘women are emancipated and empowered and dont need to be tied down anymore’. Its because the feminist movement is actually anti femininity and anti humanity. They’re not thinking about the few cases where a life may be in danger (whether because of a physical issue or mental one). They want abortion available, no questions asked because since men can be pigs by st as rting a pregnancy and then walking away, they think women should be offered the same freedom. If our elected officials had any guts, they would stand up to the lobbyists and make a law that protects life and morality while it makes exceptions for those that need it.

I dont know what chip is but snap only removed people who were ages 18-45 WITHOUT dependents. Therefore minors were not removed from the program even if AOC says that she would’ve starved as a child under these new laws.

When parents come over the border illegally with their parents, the government needs to verify that those kids actually belong to those parents. There are unfortunately a high number of children who are human trafficking victims.

It is sad that children are separated from their parents but these parents are criminals because they broke the law by coming into our country illegally. I can imagine that it was an extremely difficult decision to make and they might have felt that they didn’t have a choice to come in legally but they did break the law by not applying normally for citizenship so now the government has to work backwards to find out who these people are and where can we put them. Remember, these people have no money, options for employment, nor place to live.

“in what way do you feel that your daughter having Left Wing Modox machtonim is a form of being treated like cattle????”

I didn’t see anything in pulease’s comments implying that she (I’m assuming female but you can correct me ) was referring to MO. You asked if she would allow her child to turn down a shidduch of someone who is of a DIFFERENT hashkafa than her own.

By the time a child is ready to get married, if parents think they can forbid their child from marrying who they wish, then the parents are the ones who need a wakeup call. At that stage parents can guide and recommend but their child is a grown up and will ultimately make their own decision.

Personally, I believe that someone who is only comfortable with people of their own type, meaning people they are used to, will not be compatible with someone from a different background. They will not be able to relate to them and therefore they are not a good shidduch.

If someone doesn’t feel compatible to marry someone else, it doesn’t mean that they dont like them or that they think they are better. It ONLY means that they are not compatible to marry them. Marriage is a huge decision and no one should choose a marriage partner whom they do not understand nor someone whom they feel will not understand them.

That being said, I am from a very yeshivish family and my in laws are MO. I would not recommend the same for some of my other siblings. The fact that I was able to blend in and feel comfortable around my in laws doesn’t mean that anyone else is wrong for not feeling as comfortable making such a choice.

“how is Yang a socialist? Because he is a democrat?”

Why is your gut reaction to assume hes not a socialist? Is it because he’s a Democrat?

Have you followed him at all? Learned about his policies? Gone on his website?

His entire platform is socialism. He calls it capitalism but if you go on his website, he quotes karl Marx in order to say something along the lines of ‘although this sounds similar, it’s very different and much better’. Then he goes on to describe his policies which are in part inspired by socialism and in part simply humorous.

Among the ridiculous things he says, “the economy should be judged by absence of substance abuse, mental health and life expectancy”.

His “human capitalism” policy is based on the belief that “humans are more important than money” but he plans to carry that out by taking away money from business owners and distributing it to everyone else whether or not they are working. He also plans to penalize people who have earned too much by making it illegal for them to get other forms of work.

He is campaigning to allow every American to afford a high standard of living but he plans to do so by punishing big corporations for making decisions to improve their bottom line, while taxing everyone else to oblivion.

He says his policies will get rid of student debt, allow Americans to afford anything they desire, and ensure that big companies cant earn a profit on necessities if it means those necessities will be too expensive.

If you read his website, each idea is more disastrous than the next and will destroy this country.

As terrible as trump’s attitude is, I dont believe that the democratic party holds the higher moral ground.

Trump is an “in your face” bully while the Democrats tactic is a classier (aka sleazier) form of bullying.

Most of the candidates they’ve put forth in the past decade are from minority groups, which you’d never notice if not for the fact that they use it as a banner that if anyone dares to disapprove of them, they can then attack their character. Remember when everyone who disagreed with Obama was called racist? Remember when anyone who didn’t vote for Hillary was sexist and even the women who didn’t vote for her were labeled as weak, naive and brainwashed?

Now in this race we have Warren who has already (probably untruthfully or we would still be hearing about it) brought up gender as if the reason she cant win is because society hates women. She also thinks shes going to tax billionaires out of existence and her jealous, dumb fanclub thinks that she’ll be able to make them rich in return. She also is trying to convince the American people that if you keep spending other people’s money, then you’ll never run out of money. In other words, her platform is built on the premise that you are both greedy Nd an idiot.

Then we have the gay guy whom we obviously cant disagree with lest we be called a homophobe.

We have Sanders and yang who are socialists which is a movement based on the premise that we are all too dumb to know how to run our lives so we should give away all our freedoms to the brilliant minds of our government and then we shall never have to suffer ever again. I don’t know about you, but to me that attitude is the worst of them all.

Then we have Biden, who only has a chance because he served with the savior and wondrous Obama.

Last, we have Klobucher, who actually seems to have morals and seems like a decent person (although I dislike her views on Israel) but she doesn’t have a chance because shes not a jerk.

We also have the billionaires but they have even less of a chance than klobucher.

I will vote for the candidate whose policies are most beneficial to my life.

I really could not care less what their morals are. I send my kids to Jewish day schools to learn about middos and when they are old enough, I will teach them that politics are dirty and we shouldn’t be learning middos from our politicians.

    Sanders is a socialist.
Biden sold out the security of the US and the world with Iran. He also has said questionable things about children but it could just be his awkward personality (which is not necessarily a sin).
    Buttigieg is pro infanticide.

Soleimani was the brains behind all of Iran’s terror and expansion in the Middle East. He was unafraid and he inspired his army to follow that attitude. It was his brazeness that left the world cowering in fear and what allowed Iran to have free reign in the region.
Now that he’s gone, their paragon of fearlessness and their mastermind is gone.

The fact that they put $80million on Trump’s head, shows how much Trump is an impediment to their plans.

Whatever stopped them from attacking Israel before and attacking any other major American interests, will continue stopping them now. Many of the children snuck in are child traffic victims.

Sneaking into the US is extremely dangerous. They travel by foot for many days, sometimes even weeks, and pass through areas with dangerous terrain and a strong likelihood of being attacked by animals and criminals. Assuming these are the true parents, it is probably a huge relief to have temporary housing for 20 days, including beds, bathrooms, free food, and basic medical care. When it seems that the parents are absolutely incapable of caring for their children, the government places those children in foster care where they will be taken care of.

I’ve heard many in the media and politicians complain about how the process is done. I haven’t heard many of these immigrants claiming that they were abused. I did hear a mother cry about them taking away her still nursing baby but if she thought that crossing the Rio Grande with a nursing baby was a good idea, then probably her sense of judgment is a bit off.

If moisha’s sells bubby carts or offers a place where people can drive up to load up their cars, then the system should work.

It’s worth it to install the magnets because even if the customers try to be perfect about returning their carts, without the magnets, there is still a risk of them being stolen.

The real purpose of sending your kids to eretz Yisrael for a year is because you’re sending them to eretz Yisrael for a year. Our people have only been able to dream for the past 2000 years that they would be able to come here and now you can give your child the chance of living here for close to one year. Every four amos is a mitzvah here and there’s no kotel or kever rochel just one bus ride away, no matter where you are in Brooklyn.

Yes, some of the boys and girls who come to Israel get into trouble. There’s no way to know that they wouldn’t get into the trouble if they stayed in the US but I understand that some parents are nervous. (Also, if some kids have it in their system, it could be good for them to get it out before they get married. )

There is much less materialism here. Even the people who are fancy here, can’t indulge as much as they would in the US. It’s nice for the kids to see that they can do with less and to see that people are willing to live with less in order to be here. It’s also beneficial to your children to see all different types of Jews and to spend time with other families and learn from them.

About girls specifically, the girls spend 12 years in school just learning for the sake of good grades and they are probably going to spend the first few years of marriage working like a dog so their husband’s can learn in kollel. The least they deserve is one year dedicated to their spiritual growth with all the hashkafa classes that their 12 years of BY didn’t offer them. Once they get married and have kids, there will be no time for trips so this is hopefully their last chance at exploring the world and eretz yisrael and at being able to enjoy themselves.

I said “here”, meaning the coffee room.

“the seat change request rather than to sit next to the same gender is instead to sit away from a cranky child, sit next to a family member seated elsewhere or to sit closer to the exit to quicker catch a connecting flight.”

I’ve requested at times to switch seats so that my family can sit together. Sometimes the person has agreed and there have been times that the person has refused. It is extremely upsetting when the person refuses to switch, but I have never, and I would never made them feel bad about it. I obviously have never made a scene about it.

I don’t think anyone here is offended by the request to switch, even if it is for religious reasons. I think that people get upset when religious people forget to have derech eretz when making these requests, and when they seem to be demanding rather than requesting.

I took a semester at Hebrew University in Jerusalem and one of my teachers explained the struggle the forefathers of the State had when were trying to come up with a name for the country. They realized that the name should resemble Eretz Yisrael because it is more or less in that region, but they couldn’t name it exactly that because it is not exactly the same borders. They felt that Medinat Yisrael was a good compromise.

I say you should tell because the taste and texture are not exactly the same and you don’t want them to think you botched up boiling a bag of pasta

” I question the assumption among some Israelis that U.S. support is a given over the longer term.”

I never knew that any Israelis assume that support will is a given. Israeli policy on security is that we cannot rely on anyone. Israel planned to bomb Iran when Obama was president and they would have done so, knowing that they would’ve alienated themselves from the USA, if not for Obama discovering the plan and revealing it to the media.
