there’s a shopright on mcdonald, no? near amazing savings.
intellegentMember“brooklyn21, how would I know your name if I know the skewl u work in? “
I know why!
This fancy full-of-herself girl is no teacher really. She runs a baby-sitting group in her parents’ basement. To make herself feel good, she calls herself a “teacher” so of course if you knew which school she works for you’d know her name cuz she’s the only “staff memeber”! LOL!

Very good comparison. It is so utterly rediculous that it is so obviously H-m’s Ratzon that the world should act like a bunch of idiots because logicly it makes no sense.
Curious,

If you haven’t noticed, I was the one who started the game, (yes i know it was your idea but I started it). Thanks for letting me know anyway.
intellegentMember“and the fact that for 3,000 years women were treated a certain way, was not always due to halacha, but to the tenor of the times.”
I think it is highly improper to criticize previous generations in this way. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you really mean to say.

very appropriate word. Because I started washing the dishes and then I had to start making the pizza (pita, pizza sauce, and mozzerella cheese-yum!) so I stopped and now the rest are still sitting there 🙁 so if you can send me one that would be great!
But come to think of it curious is actually the one who does those things. So curious, your next job…

Cool it, I wasn’t yelling.
I even said “JK” but I guess you don’t know what that stands for.
charlie, my next guess is “d”

intellegentMemberI have a drivers licence and I go out of the house much more often than twice a month. (at least I should)
I saw something in Nefesh Chaya (a hebrew sefer that is a compilation of speeches from R’ shamshon Pinkes a”h). I think he says that it used to be that the house was a place of kedusha. Nowadays, that is not so women go out to look for something elsewhere.
Times are different. It’s true and certain things are different because of that. (I think women nowadays would go into deep depression if they were to stay home all the time except for once in a while) But some people are connotating that in previous generations women were mistreated and I think that is extremely wrong. They were treated the torah way and we don’t have to come with our pea size brains compared to those of previous generations and “correct” their wrong doings. That is what I am trying to bring out, I don’t know if I am clear.

But I wanted to be nice for the hangman dumbies. I will think of a better word while I wash the smelly dishes and get back to you.

intellegentMemberAlso, do you have electricity? a Fridge? Internet? You are already not “living in the ways of our holy zeidas and bubbes, as they have since Matan Sinai”. You sound like you want the Jews to be Amish following Halacha, not Jews (Who invented “when in Rome, do as the Romans do”).
Modern technology that works with the torah is fine. We don’t open a light on shabbos but we use lights. No one is saying that we have to live exactly the way Avraham lived but we can’t change our hashkofos because modern times are “different”.
January 8, 2009 4:29 pm at 4:29 pm in reply to: The CR Laboratory: Try Your HTML Formatting Experiments Here #630619intellegentMemberLet’s do hangman without the artwork (unless curious would like to take over and do the artwork for me.
The rules:
Every person can guess one letter per word. If it’s right, they get a point. If it’s wrong they subtract a point. So for example if “ploni” (if there is such a poster for real, sorry) guesses a letter for my word and it’s right, he gets a point but for the next word (next round) he guesses wrong, he loses a point.
We’ll start with an easy word:
(BTW, should the points go according to how many times they appear in the word?)
Who’s first?

Thanks. It’s nice to see some people have their hashkofos intact despite modern propoganda.

I don’t really like your comment even with the disclaimer. It can be used as an excuse to do sins. We must try our very hardest not to sin no matter what. Once we did sin, we should do teshuva but keep in mind that teshuva does not work for aveiros that you did having in mind that you will do teshuva and sin again. Don’t try to make people feel good by fooling them into thinking they will land in gan eden no matter what they do. If you do what you like and in the back of your mind you feel “guilty” it doesn’t work.
H-m put e/o in whatever situation they are knowing that it’s best for them. Everyone has hardships, some more than others. None is an excuse to get away with serving H-m.
Your post sounds like someone talking to an alcoholic and saying, as long as you stop in 10 years from now, or as long as you feel bad, it’s okay. Someone who has real rachmanus on an alcoholic will not be so “nice” and be very strict with them.
intellegentMemberI don’t really know him.
But just trying to point out that his story makes no sense. How many other guys from Flatbush do you have living near you in Ireland?
intellegentMember“why do ppl think not being able/zoche to find one’s bashert is being picky. are we supposed to marry within the first 10 guys we meet no matter what? “
You are not supposed to marry w/i the 1rst 10 guys if they are not the right ones. But they shouldn’t be nixed for that reason alone. If you are going out with the first guy just for practice and you know to begin with that you are definitely not marrying him, in my opinion, I don’t think it’s really very right.

np! 🙂
Keep in mind I am just offering one point of view and just according to bored’s comments so don’t take them so seriously. Ask people you know. i think it’s great to start out in E”Y but if someone is just soooooo excited about it, they might not be thinking of the practical aspects.
intellegentMember“Sara threw hagar out with Avraham’s bechor Yishmael. She didn’t ask his permission.”
I remember learning that H-m had to tell Avraham that Sara is right and Yishmoel and Hagar should be sent away. If Sara was able to accomplish this without Avraham’s permission/consent, why did H-m have to speak to him about this?
intellegentMemberSJSinNYC,
not sure what anon was referring to, but I would imagine that even if you do charts etc. there are certain times that you can’t prevent it. Know what I mean?
intellegentMemberKeepinEntertained
what advice? were you just quoting bored?
intellegentMemberoomis1105,
I guess my answer was not a good one. I was going to point out that I only skimmed the points. I guess I should have read more thoroughly. It does not say anywhere in the torah that women have to walk in a subservient manner behind her husband (at least not that I am aware of and I don’t practice this) but I meant to say that yes, there are differences between men and women. A husband is the final decider. But his points are definitely exaggerated. One point that is true ist that as far as far as I know is that generally women have to listen to their husbands. In today’s modern world it’s hard to believe but that is the way it should be (of course within reason, abuse should never be tolerated.)
Women should ideally be treated with a lot of respect, just differently then men.
intellegentMembersqueak,
I should hope that wasn’t you for your sake because whoever dresses that way needs help! LOL
intellegentMemberraizel reit has a bacholor’s program which does not have classes but there is a master’s program that is classes. However, I do think they have some programs for men. Call their main hotline. (It’s under TTI- testing and training international in a phone book or advertized in some publications) I was able to get some credits from seminary with them, it was through excelsior college. It costs $$$ of course as does all these things. Also you have to write essays on the classes that you took. It’s also not a full bachelors but it’s a nice amount of credits. You can also take JSE’s Jewish subject exams in a LOT of subjects such as all five chumashim, 3 levels of dikduk, ivrit, yiddish to name a few. They are really easy for someone who is very familiar with all these subjects.
intellegentMemberI have no problem with someone holding that a woman shouldn’t drive but I think it is something that should be discussed beforehand (unless based on both sides backgrounds it is obvious.) It definitely has a big impact on life even as far as what kind of job she can take.
as an aside, someone told me that her brother doesn’t drive but his wife does. He has no intentions of learning how to drive because he would waste so much time doing errands. I was not impressed. I think that’s also a bit selfish.
lesschumras,
What are you trying to say? Yes according to the torah ways those points generally are the way we do things.
intellegentMembermoisheh,
” till i got killed, of course “
I knew you sounded a bit strange.
So now we have a dead man here?
intellegentMemberlol!
I just discovered that thread. i always overlook the sticky ones. i’m going there right now! LOL!
intellegentMemberbeliever,
let’s try to be done l’kaff zchus and say that they’re crazy.
intellegentMemberbtw, none of what i mentioned is reason not to go. just preparing you. anyway, first get engaged. I wonder if I know you. wouldn’t that be funny? how old are you?
intellegentMemberbored@work,
very impressed, for real.
I know I keep saying this, but you cannot compare sem to living here as a married. (I know someone who’s family moved here a few years ago. she said she wants to marry someone who is open to moving back to america. that is where she wants to bring up her kids etc. she got married and planned to stay here about 4 years and then move to america. her husband does not want to stay here forever. anyway, she got married and her desires are changing. i’m not surprised because when you get married you want to be near family. i am really not the homesick type and am not homesick now either but when you miss your brother’s bar mitzva or even something silly like your sister’s play, and the rest of your family will be there, it’s hard.)
