Shrek, it is actually interesting because my father surrounded his house with big German Shepherds for protection and I heard this is common among holocaust survivors.
The frum people who live in NYC are petrified of all animals, as they never had pets. I find people from out of town less afraid of animals.
Do the people in the coffee room think that owning a cat is the same thing as owning a dog? Do yeshivish people own cats, is it “done”?
ImaofthreeParticipantcookies 123, I think that in most cases, real hair is much nicer than wig hair. Real hair moves and looks alive. Shaitel might be beautiful but it’s still artificial hair and I can tell a million miles away, even if it’s very expensive.
What do you care what everyone thinks and what they do, just focus on yourself and your own spiritual growth and don’t point fingers at others. that’s my policy.
ImaofthreeParticipant“agave nectar is just concentrated fructose (primarily). I don’t see why it should be any better than high fructose corn syrup.”
Agave is absorbed by the body slower than sugar is absorbed, so people who are into the glycemic index like the agave. Agave does have calories and is very expensive. I don’t think it’s worth it.
ImaofthreeParticipantnj girl, I heard this on the radio recently…that eating something sweetened with artificial sweetners causes the body to crave sweet things, like cake and cookies etc, afterwards.
ImaofthreeParticipantI have heard that the disposable tins and aluminum foil not so healthy either. 🙁
ImaofthreeParticipantThank you Chava Brocha.
ImaofthreeParticipantcan people please provide links on the internet showing it is dangerous to cook with plastic? I am having a hard time finding any. thank you! Ima of three
ImaofthreeParticipantSurprising that the FDA allows them to sell these crockpot liners if they aren’t healthy.
ImaofthreeParticipantchoulent recipes don’t belong here where the discussion is on how to clean the crockpot.
ImaofthreeParticipantRegarding the chemicals from crock pot liners leaking into the food, is that true?
ImaofthreeParticipantThis year I am planning on serving fleishig for the evening meals and dairy for the two lunch meals. cheesecake here I come! 🙂
ImaofthreeParticipantmaybe ask if the boy or girl was ever married or engaged. People will not offer this information without being asked about it.
ImaofthreeParticipantthis should be your worst nisayon in life, that you were not permitted to go to your daughter’s graduation. Get over it and be thankful for what you have. Many would do anything to be in your shoes.
ImaofthreeParticipantDead as a door knob.
April 13, 2011 9:24 am at 9:24 am in reply to: The Bernstain Bears and Too Much Pesach Vacation #759372ImaofthreeParticipantUnfortunately, our Yeshivos cannot afford to pay teachers much of a salary. So the teachers cannot afford cleaning help. If you want your kids to be in school, get together with other parents and privately pay a teacher to teach your kids. You get what you pay for.
ImaofthreeParticipantAdorable, I do not pay with cash, but All Fresh sends me a pink coupon in the mail (money back) to spend next time I shop.
let’s be careful with loshon horah about stores because we don’t want to take away from anyone’s parnosah.
ImaofthreeParticipantI think coffee acts like a diuretic because of the caffiene.
April 1, 2011 10:08 pm at 10:08 pm in reply to: Live out of town and I need (fresh affordable) food for Pesach #755128ImaofthreeParticipantIt’s legal for them to sell expired food? someone could get sick chas v’shalom 🙁
ImaofthreeParticipantI never eat choulent because I don’t like it but Abbaofthree eats it for shabbos lunch. 😉
ImaofthreeParticipantI never give rides to strange men and I told my daughters the same thing. not safe.
ImaofthreeParticipantLactaid is not kosher for passover. almond milk is a good idea.
ImaofthreeParticipantI have one, it’s called a seer pelah in hebrew, translated as WONDER POT. I got mine a long time ago in Israel. Maybe you could buy one on e-bay and kasher it.
ImaofthreeParticipantThere was a book written about the Klausenberg Rebbe and his life. I have it. He was a tremendous tzaddik. My mother was born in the same town as the Rebbe (Rudnick) and her family davened in his father’s shul. The Rebbe lost his entire family in the holocaust but after the war he became the father and mother of an orphaned generation, when he himself had lost so much.
ImaofthreeParticipantLOL Binahyeseira! I was worried about that myself. How am I going to put supper on the table when I am getting ready for pesach? Maybe we need a new minhag between purim and pesach…
ImaofthreeParticipantLOL Always here. I say if you don’t let your kids shoot cap guns in the house, don’t let them do it in shul.
ImaofthreeParticipantAfter Pesach my kids don’t want to look at it.
ImaofthreeParticipantHow about fish? Salmon is yum and very healthy. chicken chow mein with shabbos left overs? Turkey?
ImaofthreeParticipantthanks everyone I appreciate 🙂 chag kosher vesamaech!
ImaofthreeParticipantHa ha, wolfish musings, I was also in public school for kindergarten only. When I was older I used to carry my penny for tzaddakah in my shoe.
ImaofthreeParticipantAll of these questions are made up anyways.
ImaofthreeParticipantChicken Dinner Casserole
1 cut up chicken
salt and pepper
1/4 cup oil
1/2 cup chopped onions
2 eight ounce cans of tomato sauce
2 cups water
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon rice
1 ten ounce package frozen peas
sprinkle chicken with salt and pepper and brown in oil. add onions and saute.
Stir in tomato sauce, water, salt, pepper, and rice. Bring to a boil and simmer 45 minutes. Add peas and continue to cook for another 15 minutes. delicious! enjoy!
ImaofthreeParticipantspeaking of the costs of dairy products, orange juice is going up too. Tropicana is upping the cost of their juice by eight percent.
ImaofthreeParticipantCharlieSmall, a chobani yogurt is not really enough for a breakfast. I usually eat two of them in addition to a fruit/banana and a bowl of oatmeal.
ImaofthreeParticipantThe macabeats made many Jews proud to be Jewish. More power to them!
ImaofthreeParticipantI like the chobani greek yogurt, not cholov yisroel though.
ImaofthreeParticipantShev143, the new Weight Watchers diet came out in November. You still count points, but you are allowed more points, at least twenty nine points. But now carbs are more points and fruit is zero points, just not dried fruit, only fresh fruit.
ImaofthreeParticipantI just brown the meat in a pan and add the sloppy joe sauce from a can, maybe Hunts makes it? Then spoon some over a hamburger bun.
ImaofthreeParticipantShelack is a special polish they put on and then your hands go in this box where the polish hardens. Then it lasts for about two weeks and then you have to soak your nails in nail polish remover to take it off. some people say not so safe because of the UV.
ImaofthreeParticipantHas anyone tried the shelack nail polish? Is it safe?
ImaofthreeParticipantAshkefardi, I agree with you about letting it cook a long time. I put the choulent up to cook thursday night, my family likes it that way.
ImaofthreeParticipantone eight ounce can of tomato sauce, lots of fresh minced garlic, and some osem chicken soup powder.
flanken too…just so darn expensive 🙁
March 4, 2011 5:10 am at 5:10 am in reply to: Binah, Mishpacha, Hamodia, Yaated, Jewish Press? #746777ImaofthreeParticipantIf Hillary Clintin would have become president then we would have no pics of our president in the frum papers.
March 4, 2011 5:09 am at 5:09 am in reply to: Binah, Mishpacha, Hamodia, Yaated, Jewish Press? #746776ImaofthreeParticipantWhen I was a child, I used to read the Jewish Press. I especially loved the tales of the gaonim, stories about tzaddikim. I alway say the Jewish Press helped me become frum…
March 4, 2011 3:49 am at 3:49 am in reply to: Binah, Mishpacha, Hamodia, Yaated, Jewish Press? #746771ImaofthreeParticipantYated, Mishpacha, Bina, delivered. I buy the ami magazine, also zeman. love them all.
ImaofthreeParticipantI did start spring cleaning but the real pesach cleaning is after purim!
ImaofthreeParticipantmeant to write I would consider it FOR my daughters.
ImaofthreeParticipantwhat are hidduchim? LOL. I would consider it from my daughters if it was right for them. just because someone has yicchus doesn’t mean they have good middos.
ImaofthreeParticipantovercome the urge by getting away from the kitchen/fridge and going to bed. most people eat because they are tired.
ImaofthreeParticipantMy theory is that the boys in yeshiva have very little outlets during the year so on Purim they go totally nuts, trying to get it all in. I wish they would take that energy and make a purim play. Some boys would really benefit from making a play and getting the attention they crave that way. A certain local yeshiva used to make a purim play purim night, and charged admission. It was fun for the boys and the yeshiva got much needed funds.
ImaofthreeParticipantMy parents belong to an orthodox shul, the Rabbi is a Chabbad guy and he wants the people to come to shul, does not want to turn them away if they are coming by car and gradually he mekarvs people so they don’t drive to shul anymore.
