Have you ever tried talking to your partner in torah about “the basics”? If he can’t help you I would assume he can put you in touch with another mentor/rabbi who can help you. It is wonderful that you are giving it alot of thought and realizing what you are missing. As a famous rabbi once said “knowing the question is already half of the answer”. I would maybe suggest talking about “the basics” here in the coffee room, however there are too many not serious/uneducated/trolls/cynical…..people and therefore I don’t think this would be the appropriate forum. Please don’t give up! You will be happy in the end!!

While there are some yungerlite in kollel who are not doing the right thing and waste time etc.. There is certainly not a majority, not even close!! By far the majority are ehrilch yungerlite sitting and learning shark. To say that the majority are “fooling around” “not take learning seriously” “don’t belong in kollel” is outright sheker, motzi Shem ra, mevazeh talmidei chachomim and you may have no chelek in olam habah! Please think what you say/type before you hit the post button.
ask a rov. i believe that there is very likely no issue of yichud. being that the dentist himself has keys to come back and there cam be many reasins for him to stop back into the office, that would negate the yichud issue.

This is a shayla I discussed at length when I learnt the sugya. Additionally I spoke to one of the most well known rabbonim involved in kashrut in America about this sugya and this is what he said (I am omitting his name because this conversation took place a few years back and I’m a little fuzzy on the details). First off its possible that eggs even in America are not considered Davar shebiminyan based on the svara mentioned earlier that it is sold by the dozen not by the singles, however if I remember correctly he was noteh that it would still be a Davar shebiminyan based on this svara alone. The bigger chiddush he told me was that even something sold by the pound can be considered Davar shebiminyan for example eggs in Europe or a big roast because even though its sold by weight you buy it based on the amount ie you go to the store in mind to buy 15 eggs… Or one big roast… (I would like to reiterate that I am a little fuzzy on the detaild and maybe I’m confusing what the rov told me and my/my chaveirims own svaros)
Can you please tell me the mekor for peeling off the amah al amah paint, bec when I bought my house which was being built by a Jewish developer, I spoke to my rav and he told me that since I’m not taking ownership until after the house is completed, even though I was under contract and involved in the painting ie I chose the colors and paid more to get it painted a color, I do not need to leave/peel an amah al amah. (furthermore he told me that its a shaila if the Jewish builder is obligated…)
I wouldn’t give him the medium until you ran that past him. Because “standard” is to give the large size and therefore should not be given unless he requests it. That being said many chassanim do not like the large because they are very big heavy and bulky and especially if he plans on bringing it to shul/yeshiva to learn is not so convenient . I will let you know that the oz v’hdar is the crem-de-la-crem, and also more expensive than most others. I hope this helped a little
Why won’t you be taken seriously? Actually according to many poskim that is precisely the reason that its muttar, because the distance from floor to floor is just a few moments AND its not in your control to extend the length of time, being that anybody on any floor can push the button and the elevator will open the doors by that floor.
Although it MAY not be problem of gvinas akum, and even if you hold like r moshe that chalav stam is muttar, I fail to understand why you think it would not need a hechsher at all. Who says there are no non kosher ingredients in it? Who says it was not produced on non kosher keilim?
assuming that they were 100% raw beforehand, and assuming the goy turned on the entire fire (no pilot light previously lit by a yid, no residual heat left from the previous cooking, etc..) and assuming the goy put it on the fire, and assuming the yid did not do any “flipping” of the chicken or raising the flame, then the answer is NO, there is no way to mattir the chicken nuggets. furthermore the pan/pot/grill that the chicken was cooked in may be assur and need kashering.

One more point, if you’re looking at each cup and mesupek which tub it came from, there is no rov at all (assuming there were two tubs, one milk and one pareve)
Let me repeat that I’m not holding in the sugya. I don’t understand the train of thought going on here. Mema nafshach, if you’re considering the safek, that each cup may have come from this tub or that tub, then its not “kal dparush” , its a case of “lakach min hakvius” which has a din of kvius. And if your safek is noled only now in the serving tray where you have 60 cups of ice cream and your mesupek which is milk which is pareve, then it has nothing to do with kvius or kal dparush, its a regular case of taaruvos where dinei bitul would get involved not kvius and parish. Am I wrong?
its been a while since i learned the sugya, but if i remember correctly, you are making a wrong assumption by saying kal d’parish. if it was already served to each guest than it is kal d’parush, however, from your question it seems that the safek was realized when all sixty cups were still together (eg. on the serving tray). if so you are not allowed to take one from the mixture.
im pretty sure EMU (eastern michigan university) offers a RD (registered dietician) online. A nutrition degree im not sure.
R papi do you have a mekor that a woman who forgets to light on yom tov has a kenas? i thoght i saw it too but i cannot locate where i saw it. To be mifalpel a little: i can think it may be talui on something. The mechaber paskens that the main mitzvah is on the woman. there are two reasons given 1)because she is around the house more and therefore it is more applicable to her (mechaber). 2)because chavah was “kavsah neiro shel oilam” (MG”A). the pri megadim 263:7 brings the Levush that based on this second reason a woman has a knas if she forgets. that seems to imply that if a MAN was living alone and forgot to light, he would not have a kenas. I might be wrong, but i dont think that hadlakas neiros on yom tov has the second reason, therefore it should follow that on yom tov even a woman forgetting is similar to a man forgetting on a regular shabbos and there is no kenas.

hello99, i do agree that the shulchan aruch only brings the taam of chasnus, but what do you mean that the taam of issur “is only a hava amina”? its the way rashi explains the gemara (avoda zara 38a)?
as mentioned earlier the pischei tshuva brings the two reasons for bishul akum and the din mummar is talui on that. i did speak to a highly respectable kashrus organization (i did not request permission to publicize their name so i wont) that l’chatchila does not allow it however bdieved they do not assur the foods and equiptment.
i am in no way paskening this, but why is no one concerned that there is actual pieces/condensed shmutz of basar and chalav ON the walls and ceiling that is now being cooked? (of course this will also entail the bishul achar bishul question.)

There is no din of tzar baalei chaim on fish
mod42 its not so pashut that you cant have stella dora cookies during aseres yimei tshuva, bec its true that the achronim say you should be machmir not like the rama (who permits pas palter even in a place that pas yisroel is available) during aseres yimei tshuva; however, even the Mechaber himself holds that “b’makom sh’ein pas yisroel yafa k’shel palter” one is allowed to eat pas palter. therefore eating stella dora cookies [which certainly is yafa m’shel yisroel 🙂 ] is mutar according to the mechaber all year round and therefore muttar during aseres yimei tshuva. Please nobody take this as a psak because this halacha is not pashut- some achronim hold that during aseres yimei tshuva we should even be more machmir than the mechabers psak all year round (see Darkei Tshuva 112:28). consult your Rav!
furthermore that which you write concerning the ou that a mashgiach turns on the fire every time- if you are referring to PAS i dont believe your correct, in the ou documents on hilchos bishul akum its very clear many times over that for pas palter the ou does not require any action from a yid. maybe you are referring to BISHUL akum- in that case what i think you meant to say is that the ou does not rely on the heter of a light bilb in the oven chamber.
health, maybe i am misunderstanding you but i dont believe anyone in the star k holds that a light in THE ROOM is sufficient, only a light in the heating/oven chamber. i myself spoke to R’ Heineman and others in the star k regarding this.

why is this question only asked now, you could have asked the same question last week regarding a male and female, ie: a bochur with his female cousin etc. is it muttar to apply for civil marriage and get all the civil perks of marriage even though they wont be halachically married and wont do any issurim?

while i more or less agree with what you wrote, saying that not using an eruv is “no real place for” “no poskim hold that it is real halachah” is absolutly false and ludicrous (i apologize for being so strong). if anything it is clear based on basic halacha in shulchan aruch that our city eruvim are 100% not kosher. the mishna berura and other achronim go to great length being “miyashev haminhag” why people rely on city eruvim. see O”CH 364:2 M:B 8 and BI”H there.
gavra- although i am a ‘kalta litvack’, i do have to say that there is a slight makom to daven late. the Eshel Avraham (not the pri megadim) in oc”h says that the zman three hours regarding krias shma is not absolute. if the whole kehilla davens at a certain time then that is ok even if it after “three hours”. besides for the aspect that we dont pasken like this E”A, i also dont know its application nowadays- bec in most cities there are very many minyanim well before the zman krias shma. i hope noone will take this post as a psak and be lienent, i am just giving a zechus for those who do.
daas yochid- i also heard such a thing in the name of the chazon ish, however look in chazon ish Y”D siman 41 at the end of the siman. i think it is even more than just ‘mashma’, i think its almost explicit that the chazon ish paskens like the pri chodosh.and i dont believe when they say that the chazon ish was only talking about a specific scenario, if he only meant to be matir in such a case he wouldnt have printed in his sefer ‘stama’.
just to add to daas yochids explanation: There is an “old” machlokes between the Pri Chodosh and the Chsam Sofer regarding chalav akum (milk milked by a non jew without the supervison of a jew) in a situation where we know for sure that the milk is from a kosher species. the example given is if a goy milks milk and it is known that there are no non kosher animals in the city. the pri chodosh holds that the milk is permitted bec we know for certain that it is kosher, the chsam sofer disagrees and says that chazal decreed (gozer b’minyan) that chalav akum is assur therefore it is assur in all circumstances. R Moshe writes that EVEN ACCORDING TO THE CHSAM SOFER the milk produced in USA by a company that the milking is not being watched by a jew (what is commonly refered to as cholov stam) is still permitted. R Moshe goes into great detail explainig this but the crux is that since there is a fear of being caught by the government it is “Anan Sahady” (as if there are witnesses testifying) that the milk is from a kosher species therefore has the same status as cholov yisroel and is mutar. many other rabbonim question the extent of the fear that companies have and therefore disagree with R Moshe.
It is interesting to note that the Chazon Ish is very much ‘mashma’ that he paskens like the pri chodosh, and therefore it is possible that the chazon ish would also allow the drinking of what we call cholov stam.
on a side note there may be a didderent problem with cholov stam- they may be consired cholov TREIFAH, this issue was discussed previosly on the coffee room.
i own paul fredrick and bb shirts. i find that non iron means that throughout the day they stay fresh without getting all the wrinkles in them that a reg shirt will get after ten min. but if you wash it and take it out of the dryer they WILL NOT look they just came from the cleaners, pressed and starched – but they will not be wrinkled. chag kosher vsameich.

rabbiofberlin although it is true that your reasoning is one of the svaros to be mattir, it is not so simple- if my recollection serves me correctly that is the shita of the rashba and we do not pasken like him (lchatchila?). please enlighten me who “most poskim” are. thank you.
