R Avraham Schorr’s dy shiur is probably the highest lever dy shiur around. 8AM at his shul L and E15th
I asked a well known rov about him, he (the rov) consulted with who he consults with and advised strongly against visiting R Kimmel.
July 7, 2014 4:21 pm at 4:21 pm in reply to: Does a parent have a right to break a computer bought by a child? #1022945emmet: I agree 100% with Redleg, A. people assume that a therapist is good because he/she is a professional and therefore must be qualified to help any/everyone. This is simply not the case.
Therapy is very similar to shiduchim in that there needs to be a good fit of personalities between patient and therapist.
It sounds like she has taken a maternal approach to your son (asking her rav?!). Good idea if it was her kid, however for someone she is advising professionally if the subject is beyond her ken she must refer to another professional!
The idea of breaking the computer would be great if your son would be the one doing the breaking because it may be akin to an avodah zarah for him. But it is not intrinsically that and for you or another authority figure to break his stuff is begging for serious relationship damage.
Hatzlacha rabah, it is hard to hug your son too much.
June 26, 2014 5:49 pm at 5:49 pm in reply to: Doing teshuva for forgotten debts and personal wrongdoings #1100115Sam, learn mussar. If not paid back nothing to be done. If you do sincere teshuva, HKB”H puts you in situation to be maitiv the rabim which is considered as paying back since you are benefiting the victims. A little information is a dangerous thing.
June 25, 2014 8:16 pm at 8:16 pm in reply to: Doing teshuva for forgotten debts and personal wrongdoings #1100112Nowadays we are saying a lot of tehillim for #ourboys. One of the pesukim we say is “ki imcha haslicha lemaan tevaray”. The pshat in that pasuk is that if there was no possibility for slichas and mechilas avonos there would be no yiras shamayim because we are already doomed, so eat drink and be merry because what’s the difference. Not what HKB”H wants, he wants us to be davuk to him and do teshuvah for our shortcomings.
June 25, 2014 5:01 pm at 5:01 pm in reply to: Doing teshuva for forgotten debts and personal wrongdoings #1100111Sam2 dangerous, false response. Orchos tzadikim among others i’m forgetting talk about this topic, one is meazev the aveirah davens and does real teshuvah, and he will be put into situations to be maitiv the rabim amongst which are his victims.
Judaism is not christianity, if you wish to do teshuvah sincerely you are almost never beyond salvation.
Try Light of Ephraim. A book that will help you think about non-fiction as more interesting than fiction. Nefesh Hachaim will do as well
