GH: There is no logical nexus except that the Shulchan Aruch mentions (quoting the Kol Bo) that for the Yomim Noraim it is preferable. (581:1 and Mishna Berurah sif koton Yud Gimmel)

And yes, all things being equal one should choose a talmud chachom who is not married. But to this kehilla having someone married is important to them.

Wolf: While halachlically there is no restriction, the individual tzibbur may have a reason why they are requesting only married men apply. They have every right to make that a requirement for the position.

I am not sure what ad you are referring to. Was it a full time position or for the yomim noraim? While it is preferable for the Yomim Noraim it is not required. However, the shul can be makpid on only having a married person apply. I would think they will interview those applying for the position and ask about the other areas that you mentioned.

From all the reports of anti-semitism in the UK, you ask those who live in the US about being scared? I try to imagine being in the UK when a car is used as a weapon and the police don’t even have a gun to shoot to try and stop it.

The community is mostly made up of Hassidic Jews out in Orange County, with the average resident making only $4, 355 per year.

Not really since the minhag of the sefardim is that women do not make a brocha on a mitzvas asay shehazman grama unless af heim boso haneis.

However, chanuka menoros are slightly different because of how we practice NER ISH U’BEISO. Many women (not all) do not light. We let our daughters decide what they wanted to do since in my wife’s family the women did not light.

Stores have home delivery as people do not only shop in one store. My wife shops on Sunday as she does other shopping while I am at home waiting for the delivery.

In Brooklyn, it depends. If you have a large family and need to travel often (e.g. pediatrician office not close to public transportation, supermarkets not near your house/apartment) then having a car may be cost effective. I personally know somebody (family of three) who does without a car but lives near Ave J and shops in Pomegranate. She uses public transportation while her husband often rides a bicycle.

“would not be caught dead seen using the English Artscroll”

Are you referring to chachamim here in the US or EY? The chachmim in the US may not need the English version and fell more comfortable with the Hebrew version. Don’t try to denigrate them with such an outlandish comment when those like R’ Dovid Feinstein have been quoted as saying that there is nothing wrong with looking at the ArtScroll elucidation for poshut pshat and then breaking your head on RASHI and TOSFOS.

Please remember that it was the gedolim of the previous generation (including R’ Yaakov Kaminetsky TZATZAL and R’ Mordechai Gifter TZATZAL) that guided and encouraged R’ Meir Zlotowitz TZTZAL an YBLCH R’ Nosson Scherman to produce the English version.

ZD: I slightly disagree with your equating the “gadol hador” with the “poseik hador”. R’ Aharon Kotler TZATZAL was acknowledge as the Gadol Hador and he referred to R’ Moshe Feinstein TZATZAL as the Poseik Hador. It was only after R’ Aharon’s petirah in 1962 that R’ Moshe accepted upon himself many of R’ Aharon’s responsibilities that he became acknowledged as the gadol hador. At that time the leading poskim in EY were R’ Shlomo Zalman Auerbach TZATZAL and R’ Eliyashiv TZATZAL.

As I said it depends. Are you offering snacks? Lunch? If the children are in diapers who supplies them? are you doing arts n crafts projects? Factor in extra expenses – lights on all day, water (if you have a water meter), extra heat and air conditioning. What sort of income range are you looking for?

Does it require any licensing? Depends where you live. You also have to know if you will have neighbors report you if licensing is required and you don’t follow all the rules.

How complicated is it to start offering neighbors to bring their children to our home to be babysat while the parent is working? It’s not that complicated but there are factors that one needs to consider. Is someone else already providing this service with a 1/2 mile radius? What ages will you baby sit for? Do you have the physical room for it?

What is the typical hourly or weekly rate charged for such a service? Depends on the neighborhood. Suburbs would probably be a higher rate.

Can a decent income be made from a babysitting / daycare service out of your home? Again, it depends on what you mean by “decent income”.
