If you use a tag the site doesn’t allow, such as  the site software changes it to  which displays as the tag you entered, but doesn’t get interpreted by the browser for page formatting.

If you try to be a chochom and use a legal tag like <a>, but incorporate “unallowed” elements such as font, color, picture, etc. within the tag, the site software leaves the <a> and removes the “illegal” elements.

Not only did you show some real skill there, but the attention to detail is also impressive.

The addresses matched, the differences in the door handles on the larger buildings and the doorknobs on the small ones, the ornamental windows on the “theater”, and the ? where the short building merged with the tall building on the left.

Your explanation to “moish01” is correct, but I don’t use the alt+number approach for more than one of a particular character. I just control+c to copy and then control+v several times to add additional boxes.

On to the task at hand…

The denominator of the fractional equivelent of the missing percentage is how many times the original number will be just short of.

In other words, if it bounces 50%, and 1/2 is the missing portion of 100% the total would be just shy of 2 * the original height.

Since it bounced 75%, and 1/4 is the missing portion of 100% the total would be just shy of 4 * the original height.

The answer is: just shy of 24 feet.

That’s not at all stupid – it’s the numbers on the right side of a full-size keyboard.

On some laptops that don’t have a full-size keyboard, you can press a key combination (which may or may not be available, and varies by manufacturer) to turn some of the alphabetic keys into numeric keypad keys.

On my PC, m=0, j=1, k=2, l=3, u=4, i=5, o=6, 7=7, 8=8, 9=9, with other keys getting the + – etc. key assignments.

I had a little difficulty keeping up there, losing a letter or two as well as Mr. Hangman’s leg at one point.

This is because I kept cutting-and-pasting from my previously displayed post, which may have been two or more letters old (i.e. you guess “L”, I display the “L” as selected, then you guess “N” and my previous display that I copy did not yet have the “L” selected, so it’s lost).

In the future I will IY”H keep score in a separate notepad window to prevent a recurrence.

1) Allow me to join the others in saying “glad you (pretty much) reconsidered & we hope ‘squeak’ does, too”.

2) B”H the only thing that happened in your bathroom was the mess. An unsecured toilet can c’v be a terrible hazard to a baby or toddler – even a mop bucket can. Babies don’t have great balance, plus having a disproportionately (on an adult scale) large and heavy head can lead to a toddler being unable to extricate him or her self (once again, c’v) if they fall into a bucket, toilet, etc.

It would be a shame to give up a single friendship, let alone several – even online friendships – over a misunderstanding and exchange of less-than-kind words.

Editor / Mods,

This page is displaying improperly because the third post on the page has a <li> (list item) tag without a preceding <ul> or <ol> tag.

If you could delete it or remove the <li> tag it would help those who use IE with the page display (Firefox doesn’t have this problem).

I prefer not to mention the identity of the poster.

Many people made the same error.

Only a professional would catch it.

I can’t blame anybody for it.

Still, it’s only a minor issue.

Happily, it can easily be fixed.

0 errors when attempting something new? Unlikely.

1 error? You’re still doing very well.

Did anyone else have this issue?

I know that I did.

During several tries, this came up.

It is good to try new stuff.

Typically, it is (at worst) an excellent learning experience.

I’m not sure what you mean.

Are both the “i386” and “ServicePackFiles” subdirectories under the Windows directory?

If the answer is yes, and you performed the regedit updates, I’m afraid I’m out of ideas (sorry).

If your computer was here, I’d try a couple of other things, like looking at the contents of the “lang” subdirectories (both under the windowsi386 and windowsservicepackfilesi386 subdirectories) and comparing them to my computer’s, but it would be guesswork.

Is your computer a laptop? If so, can you bring it to work or school where the resident techie can take a look?

A few suggestions for those who are interested in HTML formatting and the like:

-Google “HTML tester” or similar phrases. There are several sites where you can try out your code.

-Consider buying “HTML for Dummies” (I’m not sure that that’s the exact title). I’ve bought “Dummies” books on various topics for myself and others over the years, and they’re great for beginners – not dry and boring, very informative, and simple to understand.

-It’s not rocket science. It’s not even bottle-rocket science. Don’t be intimidated or think it’s too difficult. Remember – all you are doing is telling the browser “make this line red, that one blue, and the other one blink” and so forth.

The concept is actually pretty simple. You put a tag at the beginning of some text, telling the browser how you want it displayed (e.g. green), and then a closing tag at the end to delimit where you want the font, color, URL, etc. to stop.

– I’m not sure what the problem is, since I am able to open it in Firefox, IE6 and IE8 on two different machines. Is it possible your browser has scripting turned off, or you are getting a security warning due to the JavaScript function in the code?

– Yes, exactly.

The code I pasted on the prior page for cut-and-pasting to create a test HTML page is a little odd because of some substitutions I assume the site software did.

It also has atleast one syntax error on my part – the second  tag should actually be a closing .

None of the things are stopping it from working as I expected it to.

Did anyone else try it? What were your results?

The long HML code block posted above needs to be copied and saved as a file with a .htm extension and then opened with a browser.

Cutting and pasting snippets in a cofferoom thread will not work, since most tags (such as font and color) are deliberately bypassed.

I’m not sure what you mean by “downloading”, since this method will hopefully avoid downloading anything by pointing your system to the location where the necessary files exist.

The special characters I used to replace the less-than sign (<) and the greater-than sign (>) in my sample code were sometimes replaced, and sometimes not on my post.

It may be simpler to just remove my sample code, starting from “<blockquote” and ending at “/ol>”. You can then insert your own code and click on the “DISPLAY” button.

If you save the file with a .htm extention, double-clicking on it will cause your default browser to open it.

The HTML that I wrote posted here with some odd substitutions, but it works in both IE and Firefox, so I guess that’s what matters.

One difference I noticed is that the “Type” attributes of the bullet points in the unordered list (UL) work fine in Firefox, but are ignored in IE.

I’m sure there are pros reading this who are probably rolling their eyes and/or snickering at my efforts – please feel free to jump in with suggestions for improvement, and constructive criticism.
