I don’t know where you got this word from, but once I cheated (thereby dq’ing myself from further guesses) and looked it up, it was confirmed as a word I’ve never heard of.

Thanks, usually I only manage to achieve “corny” 🙂
Library books, or other books with lettering on the page-ends – some people leave book-marks between the pages, and/or leave the books open before Shabbos. I don’t know what people do as far as closing those books or reopening them if they got closed on Shabbos.
Frosting on cakes – I remember learning that letters made with honey are OK, but otherwise there may be a problem.
Unfortunately, I don’t remember mekoros, and don’t have time to look things up now.
I seem to recall “k’sav ha’ussuy lemachak” (writing done with the intent of having it erased) is a kuleh.

– No, knowing that no matter what crisis may crop up at work, you will not be disturbed and your Shabbos will retain its kedusha and tranquility is entirely different than just closing you doors and taking your phone off the hook. You are removed from the secular world, like it (hopefully) or not.

Shabbos is a treasure. For a 100,000 dollars, would you stop texting on Shabbos? A million? A billion? Those numbers are pittances compared to the value of Shabbos. I’m a lot older than you (probably older than your parents, even) and I can tell you there is nothing like Shabbos, when the necessary drudgery and exposure to the world of tumah drops away for one day, and we are kings in our households, serving H-shem, reveling in the kedusha of Shabbos.

Many years ago, when I was young and single, I was staying at out-of-town relatives over Shabbos. I did some erev-Shabbos shopping for them, but as it was getting quite late I had to head to the checkout line before the entire shopping list was checked off. Since I was pretty sure the supermarket was open 24/7, I planned on returning motzei Shabbos and finishing up.

I agree with “The Big One” that you come across as older than you are for several reasons: 1) A math PhD is more common among older folks (like me, but sans degree). 2) Your experience as a teacher 3) Your style of speech is more comfortable and mature, and less “reactionary” than some younger posters. 4) Precise word usage, accurate grammar and accurate word spelling.
The fact that you B”H just had a mazel tov clued me in that you were a bit younger than my first impression. If I had to, I’d guess that this is your first (you mentioned the nachas you and your wife are B”H having, but not sibling reactions, as well as a detail or two first-time parents focus on more), but I’ve been wrong before.

I would simply say that if any number of cards are removed from a deck at random, the odds that the next card in the deck is a heart are 1/4 (a 52 card deck with no wild-cards are included).

I’ll go with “Teen”s answer. Unlike the “Monte Hall” puzzle, if the missing cards are truly random I don’t think the odds are affected (four suites plus two wildcards, I think – I don’t really know cards).

-Even the same person is not always consistent between one transliteration and the next. Case in point: me (Sukkos – Sukos, Agmis Nefesh – Agmus nefesh, etc.) That’s why various transliterations may need to attempted.
The original request of the location of “Clallos Nemroo B’sinai V’nishnu B’Arvos Moav” – I was able to find the mekoros you pointed out by googling “Klalos Nemru Moav” (no quotes), but when I went to post it, someone had already done so.
BTW – keep up the good work with the divrei Torah. I don’t read the thread daily, but they are appreciated when I go there and catch up.

Here’s a thought that just occurred to me: maybe the “gam zu le’tova” from the entire misunderstanding is that a potentially important safety tip may have saved someone – not necessarily a poster, but a reader, or someone who heard secondhand from a CR frequenter – from c’v having some real agmus nefesh.
