The Boro Park branch of the Brookly Public Library is on 43rd St. right off of 13th Ave.

You can hop on the D train to Bay Parkway, walk to Caesar’s Bay and check out the latest electronics in Best Buy or just stroll along the water, enjoying the view and the unseasonably warm day (if the weather clears).

Thank you all for the kind words.

    ==========================================

There are several really well-written poems on this page alone, in addition to the comments expressing concern about someone else who’s going thru a tough time right now.

A tip of the hat to poets “SaysMe”, “blabla”, “2facer”, “LSH”, “observanteen”, “CallMeDave”, and “Think first”.

Also to “kapusta”, “PrincessEagle” and “MiddlePath” for their kind comments and concern.

    ==========================================

Please excuse my intrusiveness, but you used a word – twice – that scares me.

I’m a parent, and I’ll tell you what I’d want a child of mine to be told if they ever had the types of thoughts you have expressed here.

Please don’t ever, ever consider harming yourself in any way. Feeling down about yourself is very common among teens, and even thinking that “no one likes me”, “I’m worthless”, “I wish I never was born” aren’t unusual.

Your parents and family care about you more than you can imagine.

Over the last few week I’ve been menachem avel two sets of parents who lost young children. The unimaginable sadness and pain their families feel – especially their parents – was palpable as soon as one walked into the house. Just going into those homes was one of the most difficult things I’ve had to do, and that’s from someone who simply paid a shiva call.

I don’t know your situation or if you’re already seeing someone who can assist you, but if you’re not, please consider doing so.

I’m not knowledgeable or smart enough to know if speaking to your parents, a teacher, friends, a school counselor or someone else is the best solution – for some people counseling is best, for some medication can help, and for some a combination of both is best.

Whatever you do though, I implore you not to go on suffering, this is the type of thing that can be made better.

As I tried to communicate in my poem, “gam zeh ya’avor” – almost everyone had difficulties getting thru the teen years, and believe me, they do pass in the blink of an eye.

    am yisrael chai-

On behalf of myself and all others here who have treated you unfairly and hurt you, I once again apologize.

Please consider returning to post here, the sooner the better.

All of us enjoy your posts, and even more importantly, there are people who are having a tough time with things and/or are in real distress who you have helped with thoughtful and insightful words.

Although wanting to help others feel better about things is a trait many of us have, far fewer of us actually have the talent to do so.

It would be a real shame if the person who has on many occasions cheered up others with a kind word no longer drops in here.

    Thank you.

This is for you – from a former teen.

In the Blink of an Eye

In the blink of an eye

Take it from an old guy

    This also, it shall pass

    Said the melech named Dovid

Of all the things you amass

    The least worthy is kavod

    You see family and health

Are by far the most precious

    While great honor and wealth

    Are not the best moreshes

In the blink of an eye

    Your troubles will recede

    As the years race by

    And they do so, indeed

    The terror I then felt

    Entering second grade

    Somehow with it I dealt

    And in yeshiva I stayed

    High school seemed so immense

    Impossible to succeed

Yet it soon was past tense

    Into the shidduch scene

    Was the next scary phase

    Was my past squeaky clean?

Who would say over my praise?

    I only hope and pray

    That you cheer up somehow

But you will climb rung by rung

And life will make more sense

And things that make you sigh

The bad let go, the good to treasure

All in the blink of an eye

A new mod alights from the golden portal

To judge the posts of writers merely mortal

To arbitrate fairly, and make our posts official,

    All assessments evenhanded, never prejudicial

No posters on the blacklist, none treated as faves,

All considered white knights, none considered knaves

    Words carefully considered, valuing justice,

Letting nothing bad thru, we know we can trust this

Not being too rigid, instead being elastic

Deep within the bunker (just in case of Armageddon)

Altering their brain waves, achieving mind control

To join the mod group was (no doubt) a brilliant thing to do

So welcome, welcome the new guy(?), the junior on the staff,

Remember who gets the whole milk and who gets half-and-half

It’s been a week since your ‘official” vindication, and as happy as we were for that, we are most definitely not happy that you (understandably) have still not posted here since then.

I believe many posters have learned a lesson about being “dan l’kaf zchus”, unfortunately at your painful expense.

Mechila must be requested more than once, so once again I request:

Please consider saying “mochul loch” and returning. I realize it won’t be easy, but we honestly regret what we put you through.

A lot of people (including yours truly) would greatly appreciate it if you did so.

Bundled up, going to the park

    On a cold November day

    The weather’s overcast and dark

This is a place to where I go

To get together with a friend

I feel a smile grow on my face

As I peer thru the park fence

Where I can let down my defense

As I look from side to side

    The toys are sloppily arranged

The cold November wind blows hard

As I crunch thru the dried leaves

The empty swings sway in the yard

    Abandoned, one perceives

    Into the still playground

Some startled birds burst into flight

    At the solitary sound

And the truth begins to dawn

I trudge back home under the gray sky

The chill makes my face burn

Here are a couple of links that come up for Black Friday on EA sites:

    http://easportsgamespc.blackfridayadssale2011.com/clearance-black-friday-ea-sports-games-pc-specials-sale-2011.html

    http://www.ea.com/news/black-friday-is-coming-get-up-to-60-off-over-200-games

I can’t post all links that come up on a search because I’m not familiar with several of the sites, don’t know which games are good and current, and I don’t want to go thru and verify page after page of links.

I recommend you find a PC that can access Google, or get your parents’ permission to do so (if that’s the issue), and check the various links and sites for yourself.

    Here’s another possibility:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400257624065+

It’s got similar specs to the Staples PC.

    It’s $299

It has an Intel B940 CPU, which is similar to the i3, but a slightly lower grade.

This one also is a lower-end PC, but it should be fine for your requirements.

Newegg.com sold it. They no longer offer it, but there are 37 reviews on their site, and they are overwhelmingly very positive.

Sometimes a person doesn’t even know how to sufficiently apologize, but still I need to try:

I humbly and sincerely ask for your mechila for anything I may have written over the last week or two that in any way added to the awful time you have gone thru.

I also apologize for “sins of omission”, where I could have written something helpful or done something more, and didn’t.

The tzar you have been put thru, on top of the personal losses you have had is terrible. Please forgive us.

In the short time you have been here, you have quickly become one of the most popular posters on this site – personally, I am more likely to go view a thread if I see your SN there.

Please return and resume posting here; you were missed and the site is better with you here.

AMD doesn’t scare me – I’ve purchased both desktop and laptop computers with AMD CPUs and I haven’t had problems with either.

AMD usually is cheaper than Intel, and in this case the Intel i3 CPU is probably a bit better. It’s tough to do a straight comparison, since they use a completely different architecture, and Intel is better at some things, while AMD is better at others.

My “green lighting” of this model was heavily influenced by the number of positive reviews from people who bought it.

For your requirements, either the A4-3300M CPU or Intel’s i3 would more than suffice.

If you’re not comfortable with this PC’s specs and/or want to look around further, by all means do so – at this time of year there are sure to be other good buys to be had.

Before looking for a laptop, you need to know how you intend to use it and what you will be using it for.

    Here are things to consider:

-Do you intend to carry it around a lot (school, work, etc.) or basically keep it in one place?

-What is your preferred screen size (10-11 inch [netbook], 12-13 inch [smaller laptop], 14-15.5 inch [common laptop size] 17+ inch [large laptop / desktop replacement])

-What will its use be? Internet browsing and word processing? Movie and picture editing? Working with large spreadsheets? Game playing?

-What level of support will you need? Frequent calls to technical assistance? Solve everything yourself?

-Will you be OK with free antivirus, Open Office, etc. or will you want commercial products like McAfee and Microsoft Office?

-Will you be watching DVDs and listening to music often?

If you get a PC that’s a lot more powerful than you need, that’s a waste of money. It’s best to determine what you need / want it for and take it from there.

    Per Snopes, it’s absolute baloney:

To date, FDA has not determined any consistent pattern of symptoms that can be attributed to the use of aspartame, nor is the agency aware of any recent studies that clearly show safety problems.

Our research revealed over 6000 web sites that mention aspartame, with many hundreds alleging aspartame to be the cause of multiple sclerosis, lupus erythematosis, Gulf War Syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, brain tumours, and diabetes mellitus, among many others. Virtually all of the information offered is anecdotal, from anonymous sources and is scientifically implausible.

(American Council on Science and Health):

    (Dr. Dean Edell):

A highly inaccurate “chain letter” is being circulated via e-mail warning the reader of the health dangers of aspartame (Nutrasweet) diet drinks.

Even daily large doses of the high-intensity sweetener aspartame, also known as NutraSweet, had no adverse effect on study subjects’ health and well-being, a visiting scientist at MIT reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition last week.

“We conclude that aspartame is safe for the general population,” said Paul A. Spiers, visiting scientist in the Clinical Research Center (CRC).

A widely disseminated e-mail by a “Nancy Markle” links aspartame to Alzheimer’s, birth defects, brain cancer, diabetes, Gulf War syndrome, lupus, multiple sclerosis and seizures. Right away, the long list warrants skepticism. Just as no single chemical cures everything, none causes everything.

“YW Moderator-42” is doing the right thing by verifying beyond a reasonable doubt that things are OK, but I agree with “always here” that it would be best done via a private email exchange, with the public (including yours truly) none the wiser.

    Look at this thread:

Look at his caring comments on the “poetry” thread.

in reply to: Buying A New Camera – Suggestions Please #826338

I have not researched camera models recently, but the following advice and recommendations apply for the average person buying a new camera.

The following three items are absolutely essential in a camera:

    1) It needs to take quality pictures.

    a. It needs to take good video. How good is based on your own requirements.

    2) It needs to be simple to use. The average snapshooter will want to simply point-and-shoot most of the time.

    3) It needs to be easy to carry around. You will be less likely to take a bulky camera on trips.

    Also recommended is CNET.

Go to other sale sites and read customer reviews and comments as well as professional reviews.

IMO, I think “agreeing to disagree” is the best strategy here.

    Raboisai and Rebetzinoisai,

First of all, my salutation is intended respectfully without any sarcasm.

There are pros and cons to both sides of this debate.

Once of the worst things about prior discussions on this topic is seeing posters who are well-meaning get so caught up in the debate that it turns into a personal argument.

I implore everyone to please keep things focused only on the issues, and when expressing disagreement to do so in the way you would like to be spoken to.

    Thank you.

I apologize for having offended you – I won’t say “if I offended you”, because I clearly did.

My intent wasn’t to be sarcastic, but after the jocular tone of earlier posts, and what I interpreted as your possibly joking tone – specifically the use of the word “thingy” – I wasn’t sure if you were joking or not.

Although I previously asked for mechila before Rosh Hashana, and was trying to be careful not to post anything offensive between then and Yom Kippur, I have clearly failed.

I ask for your mechila, and assure you that my prior response wasn’t intended to insult or belittle in any way.

I’m not sure if my previous post should be deleted.

Although it wasn’t my intent, it may have come across as disrespectful to others I addressed in that post.

    I’ll trust your judgement.

Despite all the good that can be done here, this an an example of a potential pitfall in the CR.

Had another poster not spoken up and given me the opportunity to clarify my intent, he would have thought I had deliberately made an insulting, belittling comment.

It’s food for thought, and something I will think about.

I think I’ve seen an ad for the sukkah you’re describing, and it sounds like it may match the OP’s criterion, but I’m not familiar with it myself.

Are you actually planning on buying a sukkah based on advice given here?

You really should go to sukkah sellers and check out the latest models for yourself.

Based on my personal experiences, either canvas or prefab fiberglass are both quite easy and fast to put up.

Here are a few pros and cons to consider for each:

    Fiberglass pros:

You can easily buy more panels to expand it if necessary.

    Fiberglass cons:

-The panels can be bulky and awkward to put up without a second person helping, especially the first corner piece.

-It takes up a lot more space when stored.

    Canvas pros:

-It stores in a very small area.

-It can easily be put up by one person.

    Canvas cons:
