To common saychel: I responded to Kuvult, but I am pretty sure I did not dignify him/her.
hujuParticipantTo Kuvult (as in “Oi Kuvalt”?): You want a million Chareidim to go to Meron? Really? Maybe you are (i) a troll who wants Chareidim to die, or (ii) just plain stupid. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume (ii) is correct.
hujuParticipantMay I suggest that we wait for the facts, lakewhut?
hujuParticipantI was going to start a thread called “non-youthful Misconceptions,” but then I realized the Coffee Room already has that covered.
hujuParticipantTo Gadolha Dorah: Please don’t call my wife a nitwit.
hujuParticipantGasoline prices have long reflected the world price for crude oil, and there is no evidence that this has changed. When world oil prices come down, so will gasoline prices.
As for paying $70 to fill a Toyota Corolla: You are supposed to fill the tank, not the whole car. Don’t use the cigarette lighter.
hujuParticipantGenerally, during Elul. Why do you ask?
hujuParticipantTo ujm: My father died more than 10 years ago. What should I do?
hujuParticipantTo Gadolha the Explorha: I do not see how “Republican Craziness” is an oxymoron, but is a redundant redundancy.
To ujm: Who is “Daddy”? My question is inquisitive, not rhetorical.
hujuParticipantIf you are still eating matzoh, you bought too much.
hujuParticipantAs a Democrat, I thought of opening a thread called, “The Latest in Republican Craziness,” but I realized that every post would be outdated a minute after posting.
April 21, 2022 1:23 pm at 1:23 pm in reply to: Mayor Eric Adams’ Tax Returns – What if anything is he hiding? #2079175hujuParticipantSo, coffee addict, you don’t care if public officials are using their offices to enrich themselves illegally? Really? Well, I guess we get the government we deserve.
hujuParticipantTo ujm: “This time” in 2014 does not exist. You have the literacy of a first grader.
As for expectations about the 2024 election, that is 100 years from today. We will know more after the 2022 midterm elections.
April 11, 2022 10:08 am at 10:08 am in reply to: Minyan Chol hamoed in Great Smoky Mountain Park #2077405hujuParticipantI sense that Gadolha and Common Saychel have doubts about Chabad’s readiness to raise a minyan. And yet Common S tells us Chabad did help him/her raise a minyan.
There are lots of ways to find a minyan. Chabad is not the only way, but it is a good way.
April 10, 2022 9:49 pm at 9:49 pm in reply to: Minyan Chol hamoed in Great Smoky Mountain Park #2077269hujuParticipantFind a Chabad center in the area, and they will find a minyan for you – or make one, if they cannot find one.
April 8, 2022 2:33 pm at 2:33 pm in reply to: Is there any difference between a religion and a cult? #2076938hujuParticipantTo ujm: Yes, Christianity and Islam resembled cults when founded and grew into religions. In the earliest times of Christianity, you had to be Jewish to join.
April 8, 2022 9:39 am at 9:39 am in reply to: Is there any difference between a religion and a cult? #2076908hujuParticipantFor a cultish interpretation of Judaism, see the comment by ready now. I am confident that it is wrong.
hujuParticipantTo AAQ: Your comment of April 5, at 10:21, implies that school cleaners are unworthy of your interest. What makes you think that? And what makes you think that you are worthy of my interest, other than my comments on your posts.
My first Jewish teacher in a public school made a point of teaching us that the school janitors deserved respect, including the colored one.
April 7, 2022 12:40 pm at 12:40 pm in reply to: Is there any difference between a religion and a cult? #2076495hujuParticipantThe 3 religions I am familiar with – the Abrahamic ones – are based on interpretations of ancient texts, as such texts have evolved over the years. There is generally lots of room for debate about the texts, and there is little hostility to differing interpretations. Cults are based on recent texts, or recent pronouncements of the cult leader. There is no room for debate, and lots of hostility to dissenters.
hujuParticipantThank you, coffee addict, for reviving this thread. The predictions in June 2021 were all (unless I missed one) very short of the mark. And Bibi’s prosecution is woefully slow. As for Arabs taking bribes to pull out, that has not happened. The MK who did pull out of the coalition was not bribed in the usual sense of the word, but Bibi did offer her a high spot on the Likud list and a cabinet post.
The withdrawing MK was allegedly hectored, at her synagogue on Shabbos, to withdraw from the coalition. Is that kosher?
April 7, 2022 11:38 am at 11:38 am in reply to: I took the 2 shots & 1 booster should i take the next one ? #2076494hujuParticipantIn addition to asking Hashem, as yungerman suggested, ask your doctor, not us yentas on YWN.
hujuParticipantI don’t eat quinoa ever.
April 5, 2022 10:53 am at 10:53 am in reply to: Gruesome Evidence Points to War Crimes in Ukraine #2075678hujuParticipantI am surprised at the substantial number of comments in support of Russia. Some of these commenters clearly do not have even the frailest grip on reality.
hujuParticipantChisinau and Boro Park.
April 1, 2022 12:18 pm at 12:18 pm in reply to: Hours before attack: venomous headline in Haaretz #2074773hujuParticipantTo the opening poster, Shalom-al-Israel: I cannot make sense of what you posted. I would guess that English is not your first or second language.
March 31, 2022 12:07 pm at 12:07 pm in reply to: No Vax needed in NYC – if you’re a pro athlete! #2074493hujuParticipantWell, the Mayor has just sat down for what’s right.
March 30, 2022 1:26 pm at 1:26 pm in reply to: Arab targeting Haredim conscientious objectors, avoid Temple Mount #2074192hujuParticipantI do not understand the first 5 posts, because they are written in mediocre English. If supporters of the point of view of the first 5 posts expect to convince US politicians to support their cause, someone fluent in English will have to speak up for them.
hujuParticipantTo Chaylev Hawaryah: I thought Jews in Northern Europe wore long coats because it’s cold in Northern Europe.
hujuParticipantDifferent but related question: Most Chasidim wear peyos today. Did Jews have peyos before the founding of Chasidism in the mid-18th Century?
hujuParticipantRe Hunter Biden: I have said this before, and I am saying it again: the Republicans and the Trump administration had 4 years to prosecute Hunter Biden. Nothing came of it, except, apparently, some tax crimes (which, as one of the jerk-citizens who pays my taxes, I consider serious). So shut up about Hunter Biden, or get more funding for the enforcement division of the IRS, which Republicans have opposed for many years. I don’t recall the precise numbers, but money spent on IRS enforcement yields a major jump in revenue for all of us taxpayers.
hujuParticipantTo ujm: Right before I was going to call you an idiot for saying Nero converted to Judaism, I did a quick google search, and, lo, Nero converted to Judaism. Who knew (besides ujm)?
hujuParticipantTo ArivaDeArah: You yell at your Talis? And it cleans it? Maybe you should try that with chumetz before Pesach.
hujuParticipantTo lakewhut and his translator, Interjection: (i) Nero was not a general, he was an emperor and mad man. (ii) How does “intersectionality” mean diversity? It is not merely a typo, like “Mero.” And the wisdom of diversity in the US military was established by, among other things, the Red Tail fighter escorts of the Air Force (or was it the Army Air Corps?) in the 1940’s.
hujuParticipantDoes anyone understand lakewhut’s last sentence?
hujuParticipantShe was at the end of her life; as old as she was going to get.
hujuParticipantAnybody who uses an airhorn indoors or near people is dangerous, not just annoying and inconsiderate. As for graggers at the mention of Haman during the reading of the Megillah, well, that’s the deal.
hujuParticipantTo Redleg: See ujm’s answer for a guide to the way to respond to my opening post. You offered a lot of weasley answers without unequivocally stating your responses. I did not ask resonders to read Putin’s mind, I asked responders to read their own minds.
hujuParticipantHey, huju, you idiot, can’t you even count? It’s 3 questions, not 2.
hujuParticipantTo nishtdayngesheft: You ask a reasonable question. All I can say is that anti-Semitism is so deeply embedded in Western culture that every political point of view has anti-Semites among it supporters. But if Trump is unequivocally Israel’s greatest friend, why does he have so many anti-Semitic right-wing supporters? I cannot figure that out.
March 15, 2022 11:37 am at 11:37 am in reply to: How much hand shmurah matzah should I buy? #2069381hujuParticipantHow many pounds of prunes should you buy per pound of shmurah matzoh? I say the ratio should be 4 to 1, prunes to matzoh.
hujuParticipantThey do it because it works. Be careful with your money – not stingy, just careful.
hujuParticipantI was disappointed that the US has not allowed the sale of jets to Ukraine, but I am willing to concede that some folks in the State and Defense Department might know more than me and might be right about the current decision. As for courage or cowardice, that applies to the front line soldiers and marines. Us armchair generals have no claim on courage.
hujuParticipantI know a guy who is so much of a WASP (American sense) that when he tells an ethnic joke, it’s about Swedes.
hujuParticipantTo AAQ: I like your theory of Jimmy Carter’s longevity. I though it was all the peanuts in his diet.
I remember being sorely disappointed with the failed attempt to rescue the hostages held by Iran in 1979-80, though I was not sure whether the failure was attributable to him or the US commandos and their military superiors. Years later, I heard him give a speech, and it was clear that he was very knowledgeable about national and world affairs.
hujuParticipantTo clueless lakewhut: I asked you what you thought Biden should do about Putin’s attack on Ukraine, and you answered, “something.” Not sufficient. And, to paraphrase Hillel, all the rest [of your response] is gibberish. But you did finish strong: you called Biden a “moron.” Nothing more persuasive than name-calling.
hujuParticipantTo (clueless) lakewhut:
a. Biden is the real president, in every sense of the word.
b. What should he be doing differently?
hujuParticipantTo ujm: Permit me some idle speculation. Putin knew that if he attacked Ukraine in the first (and, it turns out, only (for now)) Trump term, it would have diminished Trump’s chance of reelection, so Putin waited. If Trump had been reelected, Putin would have attacked Ukraine, and Trump would have rolled out the red carpet by not imposing any sanctions or uniting Europe against the Russian invasion. As I say, just speculatin’.
hujuParticipantI don’t give rides to hitchhikers so they cannot rob or kill me. So far, it works. And I have never seen a buchir, or someone dressed like a buchir, hitchhiking. But I would not stop for him/her either.
hujuParticipantTo ujm: What is the difference between “technically illegal” and “illegal”?
And, fyi, the average city block (NYC, between streets) is 0.05% of a mile; 1000 feet is 0.19% of a mile. You are as factual as Fox News.
March 3, 2022 9:44 am at 9:44 am in reply to: NPR Is a Joke and Shouldn’t be Funded by Tax Dollars! #2065880hujuParticipantTo AAQ: I googled “NPR revenue.” There were several sources. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a federal agency, is one source, state and local governments are another source. One source, Columbia Journalism Review (I believe an affiliate of Columbia University) report all government sources at about 15%, but that is the highest one I saw.
