To ujm: You clearly cannot read. I did not say, or suggest, that all older unmarried singles were toeva.
You, however, have said that they are, among other things, sickening. My calling you stupid is clearly an understatement.

And, just to be clear, I make no judgments on toeva people. That is up to Hashem.

Does anyone consider the possibility that some older, unmarried people may be tova? And some of them may be in undisclosed tova relatonships.

To lakewhut: If you lie to get out of jury duty, you are committing a crime. Juries are an essential bulwark against undemocratic government. I have never served on a jury, but they keep calling me back, and I go willingly. How would you feel if Jews got an automatic exemption from jury duty? Would you take the exemption or would you serve?

Many of these discussions omit any reference to cost. Seminary is expensive for most frum Jews. Any meaningful evaluation must address the question of whether it is worth it, or whether there is a less costly way to achieve the benefits of seminary.

Yes, there are lots of liars in politics, but the key question for all of us us now is what we should do about the leading liar recently elected to the 118th Congress. His lies vastly outnumber the truths he has told. I say, throw him out.

Back in Reb Shlomo’s day, there was no internet for people to publish their unfounded notions of what is going on in the world. Hence, no shidduch crisis. And, given the growth of the frum population, there was probably no actual shidduch crisis.

Someone made a good point about the explosion of intermarriage that has been going on for 60 years. The internet has not helped to stop that.

Re AAQ’s comment of 10/2/22, 7:59 pm: Your comment overlooks the fact that there were substantial numbers of Jews in Britain’s American colonies in the 1770’s. They were mostly from Spain and Portugal. Your comment also contains what I consider an anti-Semitic stereotype, i.e., that Jews are accountants. Jews are plenty of things (including accountants), but your comment buys into the notion that very many of us are accountants. (I do like Jackie Mason’s joke that the Jews who become accountants are not smart enough to be doctors or lawyers, but, of course, I am a lawyer.)

I believe that the use of street signs in English, Hebrew and Arabic (in the Roman alphabet) goes back to the time of the British Mandate, i.e., starting in 1920. Before 1920, there were few automobiles. I think that following Israel’s gaining independence in 1948, no thought was given to changing the British practice, and it works – it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
