So far “working harder” is the only one who understands what I was saying.
I wasn’t unsympathetic on purpose.
HeshyMemberInteresting observation. My wife had a neighbor that got divorced 5 yrs after getting married and never got remarried. Its been like 13 yrs, scary. He got remarried not long after their divorce.
February 16, 2012 1:39 pm at 1:39 pm in reply to: Chasidim that think you don't know yiddish #851713HeshyMemberSome of you change this post into a post about people speaking infront of someone they thought didn’t understand them. That wasn’t the point of the thread.
I noticed the Gerrer Chasisdim and yiddish thing 22 yrs ago when I was in EI.
HeshyMemberDon’t give us an eeyin horah. Some of us like “no news”.
HeshyMember“…let your wife wear what is comfortable for her
tznius wise for nothing else but shalom bayis on its own”
I don’t have much of a choice. She more or less said to me, “One more word and I’ll turn the world to ‘tahoo vavahoo'”
HeshyMemberyitayningwut
That isn’t what I meant since in that case she was actually not being tznius (modest).
HeshyMemberTikkunHatzot,
Believe me, a smaller car isn’t an option. If it was I wouldn’t have asked about a Suburban. It needs to be at least an eight passenger automobile.
Thanks to the others.
If anyone has any other comments I am happy to hear them.
HeshyMemberOK!!! Forget about my last line just answer the question!!! please 🙂
HeshyMembers2021, personally I wouldn’t refer to them as cute, but OK.
HeshyMembertruth be told, why do you ask, do you have one for me?
I think it had the fake wood and certainly had the rear back seat.
BMWs and Ferraris ain’t got nothing on the charm of a 1980s, American station wagon !
HeshyMemberThe American poet Edgar Guest. If you read some of his work you will see that he had a lot of “common sense” which he was able to convey in a beautiful way.
HeshyMemberHaLeiVi,LOL!
HeshyMemberWell, maybe thats the explaination. They always say it to me in english (they think I don’t know yiddish). Perhaps they are just translating (badly) that yiddish phrase into english. However, a “heimishe” coworker of mine from Boro Park, rasied in yiddish, said to me “nothing doing!” ???? ??? ????? can’t mean what you said.

Does anyone know “the way”?

HeshyMember“Dont sleep shabbos afternoon”
Arc, easier said than done.
Shabbos cannot be the cause of your problem….Its your diet
BP Totty, I hear you, but I am not sure you are right.
I will try ( bli nedar 🙂 ) to ease off the challah though at BP’s and smartcookies suggestion.
HeshyMemberthinking jew, I appreciate the comment. However, I wasn’t trying to “toot my own horn”. The credit goes to my friend for setting me straight.
HeshyMemberCan’t believe I forgot my favorite of them all
880 Sunday Mornings and Legal Holidays – Cameron Swayze!!!
HeshyMemberstriving, yes it provides a little fun diversion on some common ground.
kapusta, that Hoffman show on late every night IMHO has got to be the most boring show on air and I am stunned that they have nothing better to put on.
“Religion on line” sometimes gives me a laugh Sunday mornings on my way to my chavrusa.
HeshyMemberames, thanks for understanding my point.
HeshyMemberThanks for the offer Mod 80. You can keep it open maybe I’ll be lucky enough to get a reply that is ‘tzim zach’.
HeshyMemberFor all,
I wrote above,
“I am interested in your comments on this and things you may have heard about the importance/unimportance of attending anothers simcha.”
I am NOT interest in a mussar schmooze in the details of how/importance of being Dan L’Kaf Zechus or working on my skin thickness and putting my mind at ease. I am interested in what I wrote above, v’ze hoo!!
HeshyMemberFunnyBunny, I am well aware of being Dan L’Kaf Zechus. However, as I mentioned it is this Rav’s “minhag” to not show up at simchas of many of his mispallalim. One isn’t required to go out on a limb to be Dan L’Kaf Zechus. If it is a normal possabilty that fits with the nature of the person you are being dan them by all means. However, if the person always does a certain action you don’t have to be Dan L’Kaf Zechus.
HeshyMemberartchill, Sheesh! I said I don’t take it personally so don’t worry about the thickness of my skin. I am questioning whether it is derech eretz or not.
jphone, yes, I can also be ‘dan l’caf zchus’. You also missed my point. In any case, he isn’t that popular a Rav to have 9 simchas in one night and when I spoke to him in person he didn’t mention a word about other commitments.
HeshyMemberI wasn’t referring to the one being called up. I meant the kahal listening from their various places in shul.

January 29, 2009 11:05 pm at 11:05 pm in reply to: Looking For a Mamar Chazal About Cosmetics #635077HeshyMemberSince there may be some confussion here I am reposting.
Hi all,
Thanks for your answers to my post a couple months back. I stumbled across what I was looking for. Actually, I was incorrect the Medrash is talking about purfume (maybe it can be stretched to cosemetics).
It is in Medrash Rabba (Breishis,Parsha 17:8) it says as follows (skipping the parts that aren’t relevant):
They asked Rebbi Yehoshua…Why does a women require perfume and a man doesn’t require perfume? He said to them,”Adom is created from earth and earth never decays. And Chava was created from bone. Mashel – If you leave meat for 3 days without salt it starts to putrefy.”
As I was getting at in my first post the Medrash implies that perfume isn’t just an enhancement for women rather it is an intrinsic need like salt for meat.
HeshyMemberHi notpahut,
Ok, thank. Funny you were the first to reply. But it’s not a Mahral it’s a Medrash.
December 10, 2008 8:44 pm at 8:44 pm in reply to: Looking For a Mamar Chazal About Cosmetics #635037HeshyMemberI didn’t mean that they need it to look appealing to their hubbies. I meant a chazal that seems to imply that they are lacking without it.
HeshyMemberI think there are more productive things to do with once time. Have you ever seen any Gadolim (Like Rav Shach) visit or recommend going?
HeshyMemberThanks to all who replied.
tzippi, she is the oldest child. B”H I think she has a decent self-worth as I mentioned she is the top of her class, dresses well, has good middos and has decent looks. BTW, are you my aunt tzippi?
To the rest of you, two things.
(1)Last night I asked my daughter if she thinks that we are two restrictive with her. She came up with one thing (not the Yated) and even that it depended on what the reason was for restricting her i.e. if it was for safety she is OK with it. If it wasn’t she felt she is being babied.
(2)I hear your points and bli Nedar, I’ll ask my Rov if he agrees with our approach.
HeshyMemberCharles R. Darwin wrote : “Al tihyeh tzaddik harbeh…” “Heshy,” don’t push it.
I hear you. B”H she is a good, normal girl top of her class. Its a fine line and I am learning the ropes.
intellegent asked : “Just one question…”
Basically I would say that it boils down to – “What does she need it for?”. She is only 13, why should she think about it at this time of her life and possible start to worry,”maybe I’ll be one of them”.
I mean heck, she is only 6-7 years away from “The parsha”.
Same goes for the other things.
HeshyMemberShindy said “My family thinks the readers write is pretty ridiculous, and don’t take the letters too seriously. Just my opinion.”
I hear you, us too.
Generally we don’t get the Yated. But once in a while I wanna read about current events and I like the way they write about those things given us an overview.
What topics you ask?
There are the letters as one of you mentioned about girls with questions. There are all the shidduchim crisis letters. Money crisis letters. Basically things that a girls her age doesn’t need to be exposed to. They won’t ruin her but she doesn’t need them. Furthermore the opinions in them are not necessarily comming from Torah values.
